  • EGOL has already covered this off nicely. I also have clients with lots of links from Pinterest and never seen a single issue. I would just continue doing as you are - I have also found Pinterest to be a great source of traffic for the right sites. -Andy

  • I would suggest prioritising the products and creating unique descriptions for the most important ones first. Outsourcing them ... I would not generally say that's a bad idea as long as you ensure the work produced will be of high quality, meaning don't outsource them to India or something but maybe if the budget allows you could find a freelancer to help with the workload. We have this issue too and some products from a previous mass upload still don't have good descriptions, but when it is a small update, we create them as required.

  • Hi there, SEOhanna, thanks for bringing this up! I'm so sorry you've mistakenly gotten caught up in moderation, that's really frustrating. We've been working to lessen the amount of comment spam on the blog, and added a few new filters to the moderation system. While most of the time those filters have been doing a great job of catching spammy comments (I've deleted about 10 posts inviting me to join the Illuminati in the last day alone!), we've noticed that a few spammy comments still slip through, and a few awesome comments get caught in the net. Because I'm the point person to manually go through and approve or deny comments, I can attest to the fact that your insights are just the kind I love to see on the Moz blog! I'll see if we can't find a way to lower the defenses a bit while still keeping the spam away, and in the meantime, please reach out if you run into anything else that's frustrating -- we're here to help!

  • Redirects are a funny old thing, and a source of much frustration for many. I asked John Mueller about this last year and his response was basically, "be patient". There are occasions where a reversed redirect can see an almost immediate change, then other times it seemingly never happens - in the long run, it probably will though. Just don't go changing back and forth too quickly because this is likely to cause you extra headaches. -Andy

  • Hi. I think you misuse or maybe misunderstand what canonical link is. It's basically to say to search engines that the page, which canonical link is pointing to is the original page for a given content. So, if you have on fr.domain.com canonical link which will point to www.domain.com, it means that you are saying that all content on fr.domain is duplicate (or should not be considered separately) of www.domain.com. This will mean that all the ranking juice from fr will go to www. I believe what you are looking for are hreflangs, which are for telling search engines which subdomains/domains are for which country. Hope this helps.

  • Hi Raymond, As EGOL said, random posts like this are highly unlikely to hurt any efforts, but it does help if you have a hook in articles that allows you to make use of internal linking. What you need to be thinking about it how can you show Google that you have the necessary EAT (Expertise, Authority & Trust) in your field? Are you producing articles, papers, research or any other thought-leading content on what you do? Are you active socially and are you being mentioned and corresponding with other thought leaders? There is so much that can be done to help and it just takes a little planning and effort to get the ball rolling -Andy

  • Howdy. So, here is the thing - MOZ link crawler is very delayed. They crawl about once a month. Also, as any other crawler, there is a limitation on resources. Therefore there is high chance that simply your link profile is not up-to-date. If all other tools are saying that it's the case, then you are good. As for why your website is not ranking better than competitors - there are so many other signals than links. And the metrics are just metrics. Hope this helps.

  • The 301 redirect is only temporary, so as the new Website that you're redirecting has been submitted to Google Search Console to be indexed (link: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url?authuser=1) you should be fine!

  • Hmm Riyaz, check what sources, locations, folders, etc. are changing and losing traffic over time. Losing traffic significantly because of changing the server settings is highly unlikely. It's probably caused by something else or a normal flow.

  • Landing pages will be created for same long tail keywords. And these will not be more than 6. These are like our product features as well long tail keywords. So I think this is OK to Google. Anyhow these will be interlinked naturally in website. But I am not sure we can add to top navigation menu as it confuses more. Footer menu links will not be really noticed by users and only thing I am more into is how it helps in SEO? Do these repeating pages on footer menu influence our rankings for those long tail keywords?

  • Thanks for the quick response. If hayacreations is ranking 19th position in Google for a specific keyword, and ethniccode is ranking 30th position for the same keyword, What would be impact after 301 redirect? Will hayacreations drop to 30th position or existing position would improve because of link juice?

  • Hello, Welcome to Moz, everyone has a different way of doing bits. I'll give you some pointers on what i might do in your position. First off i'd set up a dev site version of one version of the site - new/old this would enable you to get a comparison of what urls/ content is missing. dont forget its not just urls that affect rankings if they've changed all their content too that will also have an affect. If you want the quick win a restoration may be the most beneficial. I wouldn't bother with 302 to be honest I'd rather put my time into getting it right Most of the time it's down to how to get a client earning again (assuming it's taking business away) so the quick win here is, restore, set up dev site for new, prep a migration plan. Put into motion. I'm sure lots of other Moz people will also give some great advice as I said this above is what I may do but as I'm sure you know there is always lots of ways to solve and there is also other subtleties to worry about etc. The best of luck with your problem.

  • Hi Rox, We actually don't allow job postings like this in the Moz Q&A forum, as it's more appropriate for job boards like the one maintained by Inbound.org. We do maintain a list of Moz-recommended agencies here, and wish you the best of luck in your search!

  • Hi Amy, Great question! In our experience, if you're migrating, the best choice is to put 301 temporary redirects in place until Google has the chance to index your new pages. Be sure to submit all of your new pages to Google Search Console for indexing once migration is complete: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url Hope this helps!

  • Before answering, it is me having a question for you: why the hell do you need to put spanish content under a french subdomain if you already have it in the spanish version of the website? Is this nothing but complicating everything :-)? Said that, as Steve said, the hreflang itself solves any potential duplicate issue, so you don't need to cross canonicalized any url. Simply remember to use the correct combo of hreflang ISO codes. In the case of the spanish version of the french subdomain, the hreflang should reference the fr.sudomain.com/es/... and have as pair these: "es-FR", so to target only the spanish speaking people in France. This way you are not going to messed up with the same kind of URL in targeting spanish speaking users in Spain ("es-ES") or in Great Britain ("es-GB") and so on. However, it would have been more logical to have only one spanish URL for the videos, and have their hreflang set up as "es" only, so to target all users speaking spanish in every country.

  • I'd still disavow these because you never know when those dead domains may come back online again. There is no disadvantage to disavowing spammy directories that no longer exist other than the time it takes to do so. With that said, however, it's not likely to make a significant difference to your rankings whether you leave these or disavow them.  In the past, these spammy domains had the possibility of causing your site to be suppressed by the Penguin algorithm. But when Google released Penguin 4.0 in September of 2016, Penguin no longer demotes. It simply stops counting any link metrics from spammy links. So why disavow? There are a few reasons: If you ever get a manual review of the website by the webspam team and you haven't disavowed you're at risk for getting an unnatural links penalty. You do NOT want that. -There are other algorithms outside of Penguin that look at links. We don't know much about them, but best to be safe rather than sorry. -Even though Google says they are simply not counting spammy links, I wouldn't want to trust their word completely and simply ignore spammy links.
