  • Hi, there! The first place to start is with keyword research. We prefer to use Google Adwords keyword reasearch tool, but you can also use other platforms like SEMRush, Moz, and Buzzsumo. Find the keywords that have the highest search olume, and if you're a local business, make sure to include geo-modifiers for local SEO. After you've found your keywords with the largest search volume, match them to your services and begin to map out your urls. As far as structure, your URLs should look somewhat similar to this: www.yourdomain.com/keyword-in-city-state Be careful not to name your URLs after a keyword or question that will easily become outdated. Be as general but specific as possible. One of our favorite tactics is to leave the short-tail keywords for the main service pages, and then create blog posts or FAQs using commonly asked questions. With voice search becoming more and more prevalent, long-tail keywords will be gold.

  • Canonical tags must go in the header of a page's code, Expo.  If you put it in the page body (as would be the case with the wysiwyg editor) it will simply be ignored. Paul

  • To what degree if any would the loss in traffic be offset by the gain in strong inbound links from apparently authoritative domains doing the republishing?

  • Hello I am fairly new to the community but I thought I could offer some useful information. I have had similar issues and success with a number of techniques (though probably on a smaller scale). I was about to list them when I remembered there was a great whiteboard Friday on this topic. https://moz.com/blog/wrong-page-ranks-for-keywords-whiteboard-friday Degrading a page might not be worth it if your competitors are hot on your heels. Especially if you have yet to do everything you can to improve the rank for www.domain.com. I have never tried such things across domains so I would be interested to know how you get on. I appreciate you want to give power to your product domain and not simply shine a light on one over the other. You might consider a redirect. I believe 301s now pass all of the link juice. If there is another way to transfer power other than internal link sculpting I would love to know also. Alex

  • Synonyms are part of our everyday language. we use a wide variety of synonyms in every conversation without any loss of meaning or confusion; using them in our written communication (specifically, web copy) ensures that it sounds natural, makes it less of a chore to read, and not just something that has been hammered out, solely to try to gain traction in the search engines. Google knows that its continued dominance relies on it's ability to deliver relevant results and understanding how synonyms work is an integral part of that, so, unsurprisingly, this is something they are very, very good at. (Here's a 2010 article from the official Google blog which refers to synonyms: https://googleblog.blogspot.co.uk/2010/01/helping-comnds puters-understand-language.html.) If you look at Google's example of keyword stuffing (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66358?hl=en) you can see how unreadable that is; much better to add a variety of synonyms throughout a piece of engaging copy. To address your concern directly, editing your copy and replacing keywords with a sprinkling of synonyms is not going to result in you suddenly getting penalised for 'keyword stuffing'. (Remember, that the notion of a keyword density % is a myth See: https://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo/myths-and-misconceptions-about-search-engines Don't forget to test your edits with On-page Grader: https://moz.com/researchtools/on-page-grader. Proceed with usability and readability in mind - write something a human being would enjoy reading - and you won't go far wrong.

  • Hi Eelco, This extract is taken from an article on Search Engine Land "Google Explains How It Handles The New Top Level Domains (TLDs)": http://searchengineland.com/google-explains-how-they-handle-the-new-top-level-domains-tlds-225671 "Q: How will new gTLDs affect search? Is Google changing the search algorithm to favor these TLDs? How important are they really in search? A: Overall, our systems treat new gTLDs like other gTLDs (like .com and .org). Keywords in a TLD do not give any advantage or disadvantage in search." Personally, I think it's inevitable that we'll see wider adoption of these new TLDs (despite them having a 'vanity' feel about them at the moment) because, quite frankly, all of the good .coms are gone! I hope that helps!

  • It is up to Google Zack and there is never a guarantee that they will show, but you would like to think that they would be adopted at some point. What I would also suggest, is having a look on the Google forums for help as well. -Andy

  • Hi, Yes, Google can see the links within a slide, but I wouldn't use this as a source for link building. As for placing it on your website, you can embed this, which means that it isn't actually hosted on your site, so there is no problem with any duplication -Andy

  • Thanks very much for your reply I think in the past we had scaled back on our exact match anchor text in the internal links based on advice from an Seo agency we had worked. Whereas before we would have had a list of links in a box on the homepage to our most popular options saying for instance Hotel in Spain, Hotel in Gibraltar etc. This was changed to have the heading of the box as Hotels and the link anchor texts changed to the location Spain, Gibraltar So I'm guessing the agency overreacted to the issue of exact match anchor text for external links and didn't need to apply it to the internal structure

  • Hi Ruchy, That's fantastic deep crawl is a great tool. I was talking about two different types of cloaking one using an URL with a  C name for hidden cloaking  e.g. https://www.rebrandly.com/ Thank you for the kind words.  Giving good answers and thumbs up or thumbs down definitely does make a difference I have outlined a lot of it below the official MozPoints URLhttp://moz.com/community/mozpoints Yes marking anything as a giving thumbs-up is telling somebody they have helped you and in the event of thumbs up is their response was valuable and maybe contributed to answering your question. In the case, of giving good answer person has answered your question giving as well as thumbs-up is the way anything is a way of saying thank you. Welcome to the most community, and I look forward to seeing you here. All the best, Tom

  • Do you mean the spam flag? If so, then it's worth remembering that MOZ doesn't update as often as Google so the next time it gets round to crawling, it should update. -Andy
