  • Samantha (of the Moz team) suggested I have my client whitelist Rogerbot - so you are saying simply whitelist Rogerbot as a useragent?  Is there any other information I need to provide?

  • Links are what you want in SEO, they are probably the strongest ranking factor (at least for the time being), but the easiest way to get those is to visible create content that people want to create links around. This is the reason that content is so important. If you are doing all your linkbuilding manually, by yourself, you have a long road ahead of you. Google has indexed your page, so it's been crawled but it only has the one link pointing at it and as I said that's not providing any particular context. I don't think that anyone is going to disagree with the concept that knowing more about SEO is an advantage, but it's not a game winner. Your situation will all be solved by sorting out that slider and getting some more links with the right anchor text pointing at KennethLewis, specifically at the page we're discussing.

  • Thanks had read about canonical, but did not think it applied until i saw an article on the Google Blog about cross domain support for this exact reasons since setting up a 301 is not an option. Google is now picking up the correct domain and removing the incorrect cached pages. Thanks Shane

  • I'm not sure if you guys found a solution to this but I've used Mageworx with my Magento sites and it seems to handle everything I need.  I do have to do some Mod-rewrites but nothing too much for a developer to handle.

  • The search engines see the page without the tabbed style. On the page, use view source to see what search engines see most of the time. On your page, all tabs are indexed, not as separate pages though.

  • Do you want sustained traffic, or a one-time increase? Is there a goal associated with this traffic (increase signups for a newsletter, increase number of comments, sell products, etc.) or is the goal just pageviews for a specific page?

  • Often I see .de domains which rank in Switzerland & Austria as well. So I think the is no need to set up a .de domain. Just try to get German Links to www.example.info/de/....

  • We did go ahead and it worked out fine. It took some time to gain the positions, but it really was worth it.

  • Just in case anyone stumbles across this topic: We started using honeypot captchas in 2011 and it really paid off. Not only because we got rid of the old captchas, but also because they are keeping out 99,99% of all bot inquiries or spam.

  • Good link building companies are very expensive. Theres webuildpages.com. $2500 for 10 permenant links. They are good quality. Also, I'd be sure to keep away from judging links by solely by PR. It's not a good metric on its own.

  • I'd add that if it's a truly great piece of content it might not hurt to get some help. A lot of link building agency's nowadays rely heavily on social networking and have large if not HUGE networks to lean on and this could definitely come in handy. A one-time push of one piece of content probably wouldn't break the bank. Outside of that - I'd say a lot of the tactics @PH292 mentions but don't be afraid to jump in to your own social circles and push. If it's important and worth it - this is probably time to pull out the "pretty please RT xyz" dm's, messages etc.

  • Agreed that  I would not dare use it either. You couldn't pay me enough to be part of that type of link exchange, even if all 5400 backlinks were dedicated to my exact niche (not that that many sites in my niche even exist!). If you look at the telalinks site more, you can see they do a poor job of maintaining their own site. There are multiple 404 pages when you click for an example of what a links page would look like, and in a random clicking of some of their sites in the advertising section I found a male porn site, a Chinese medicine site, and designer handbags. If they pay this little attention to their own site, I am really not going to trust what they put into a 1k text file for me to upload.

  • Hi! What is your budget? Can you afford to have separate sites in the local languages, on local domains, or do you want to stick to English? That will inform how to proceed. As for the LGBT community - I assume you mean the domestic community, not the LGBT communities in those countries? I'm sure some online LGBT websites/communities could be targets for mentioning your product, but I'd suggest you carefully analyse the potential ROI. I may be wrong but I am unsure the LGBT community are looking elsewhere to anyone else for lighting, and/or buying different lighting. Something I'd definitely look into before starting to invest time targeting them. I think a few more details would help answer the question better.
