Too many internal links to a particular page?
Another explanation might be that there are some session ID parameters that are being indexed and totally inflating the internal links to page metric. If you have an ecommerce site or something that is adding session IDs, you could have a huge number of links to the page that are in truth the same link, and Google is recognizing this. Have you looked at the details of those internal links?

Where did the link building section go?
Casey from SEOmoz responded to this question in another thread with the following: "That article was out of date and replaced by a chapter in our Beginners Guide to SEO", which is the link below that Gyi quoted.

Ranking problems in Google.ca
Hi there, I think I have responded to an older inquiry of yours a few months ago, so I thought I'd chime in here. The other 2 responses (thanks guys) mention the on-page SEO - but you will also need to start attracting some .ca links to help gain some visibility in the area. It's tough because this is a U.S.-based site, with a U.S. TLD and address, so getting international visibility is tough - it's pretty hard to geographically target organic searches without the physical presence. Links will definitely help. But if it were me - I would strongly consider PPC as well.

Google rankings tanked....Now what?
Certainly possibly that it was a small algo shift, but unless lots of other sites fell in the rankings, too, I'd say the fresh boost/loss is the more likely culprit in this case. BTW - you might want to check out this slide deck for some ideas on growing content/links/inbound marketing: http://www.slideshare.net/randfish/inbound-marketing-for-startups-in-2011

Don't change the keywords targeted on the homepage. If you're wanting extra keywords then you need extra pages that are optimised for those keywords. DD

If that's the case I wouldn't worry about it, if things change and you start blogging maybe use it there but like you say it's not worth worrying about. Tom

How much value link from SEOMOZ will worth?
Google will value the 'trust' factor of a site as a whole. If you manage to get a backlink on say, newyorktimes.com, on a page that is well buried, that is still considered a good backlink because it's coming from a trusted source. I have stopped looking at pagerank (toolbar) altogether, and focus on the overall quality of a website now when doing my link building.

Social media links/buttons - best practices
I've never actually experimented with different placement, other than different positions on the bottom of posts. I can say that with one fairly popular site I run (25k visits/day) Faceook, Twitter, and email comprise just about all of the share clicks. Of those, Facebook is clicked about twice as often as Twitter, and Twitter a bit more than twice as often as email. Despite that giant Facebook sharing lead, Twitter sends just about the same number of incoming referrals as Facebook.

The Value Of A Link
Really both. On the one hand, the value of building many links on the same domain diminishes as the number of links on that domain increases. However, in my experience, this doesn't start happening until you're talking a lot of links (think footer links & blog roll links). Going after the new domain will increase the domain diversity of your back link profile, which is really important. Also, are we assuming that both domains are of equal authority? My advice would be to continue spending time building links on domain #1 and start investing time into the more difficult domain #2.
