  • It's always interesting to see how sitemap.html performs in terms of pageviews. According to Analytics at least, many users find them useful -- and that's enough for me to usually want to recommend including one. Try it, test it, and if users find it valuable then keep it. Like it or not, I think it's true to say that there's still a small segment of web users who use sitemaps as on of their main methods of navigation so I think on that basis, there's an argument to include them.

  • Look at other ebay/amazon stores that link to their own website. Check out the source code and see if there is a rel="nofollow" attribute appended to the a tag of the link. If it's not there, you are in good shape search engine wise. User wise, you are definitely in good shape. Link to your company website so that you can show your potential customers that you are the best choice, especially compared to your competition. Offer them reasons why they should go with you and use testimonials to back it up. I don't think there is a downside to this

  • The ROI for this is a lot lower than general Search traffic (I've had 3 conversions from this), however, I would say that for the little work it took to do, 1 conversion would have made it worthwhile.

  • If the can't 301 all the pages, then your DNS solution would work as long as you have the same pages on your version of the site. The spiders would think it's still the same subdomain and you shouldn't lose any juice.

  • You are never bleeding link equity. Link equity does not ever leave the page if you link out to others. It's more like you are sharing what you have with others. There is no SEO benefit to linking to others in terms of link equity but I believe the engines do pay attention to if you are link hoarding. Being a good member of the community is vital to growing in importance. Look and act like a leader in your space and soon people will regard you as such. Besides, backlinks to others are good ways to build relationships which can get you links later on. That is worth it alone.

  • It sounds like you have a duplicate content problem inclusive of a duplicate Meta description problem. If you can make the content unique on both domains you will have the ability to update the Meta description creating two unique pieces of content which puts you in a better position than you are in now.

  • Just to open a discussion, I would imagine that Google will not put a lot of weight into the domain name listed on the places page. They are already looking into exact match domain names and their ranking ahead of others, so I would assume that the same would be places. I know for sure that distance from centroid, number and quality of reviews, and categories of the listing have the most weight in ranking in places or maps. Sorry i don't have a straight answer but thought I would give a point of view? Hope it helped

  • I would like that, too. Especially for things like new C-class IP addresses that link to my site for the 1st time, or new root-level domains that link to me for the 1st time. Would be great if OSE's data included "date link was discovered" for each link. Then we could begin to tie together new links with changes in rankings.

  • Honestly, I think a lot of people probably read, but just don't take the time to hit the thumbs up button because they don't know what the point is, or don't care.

  • Yeh, that would do it if all the pages had tags saying the homepage was the canonical url! Apparently I either didn't notice them, or you had already deleted them when I looked at your page.
