Buying up old domains, high PR, to absorb backlinks and authority?
I'm not a guru, but it would probably be much better to build a Wordpress blog on those aged domains, create regular content and then link it back to your main site, not just regular 301 as you plan doing.

Best practice for franchise sites with duplicated content
I fully agree. We have notified them all and let them know its in their best interest to modify the content throughout the site. Unfortunately most of them don't and the copy remains templated. Thanks for your answers

Video Transcripts
I agree with EGOL. Look at the SEOMOZ video transcripts. Lots of times I'll just read through the transcript so I can get to the "nugget" of info really fast. We've been in the habit of doing video transcripts and lots of times those pages will outrank lots of other pages. How about just adding a link - "Read the Video Transcript" and going to a new page? Simple but effective. FYI - you can use up to 5,000 characters in the YouTube description. Use all of it! Good luck! LHC

What's the best way to discover which search terms competitors are highly-ranked for?
I agree Matt While we know most terms we want to target keyword research is an important part of our job. I regular go back and re-research keywords for clients I have worked with for years. I would be doing them a disservice if I did not.

All seo reports
Hi Laurent, These terms can have slightly different meanings depending on what report you are looking at, but most commonly these terms will be in reference to Google Analytics, so definitions for this report can be provided here. The organic search report in Google Analytics is to show the user what kind of traffic has come to website organically (which is to say, users who have visited the site by searching for a related query). Keywords are the search terms used to find websites, and the terms people use with their websites in order to attract relevant traffic. These keywords are naturally non-paid. Paid keywords are keywords with a high search volume and competition, utilized by Google Adwords to create advertisements which show in searches for these keywords. For each click these advertisements receive, the merchant will pay the advertiser (Google) a small amount for the prime location of the ad in relation to the search. It is always good to have a high amount of organic search traffic as it means Google is picking up your site easily and users are finding the site naturally. Paid keywords are good to use in higher volume searches where a site may have trouble ranking otherwise. For more information, the Google Analytics help page can guide you further.

E-Commerce Site Crawling Problem
Two ways: 1. Find out where Google followed a link to the non-existent category pages, and get those links removed and the category pages redirected or blocked as EGOL mentioned. 2. Change your code so that non-existent categories show a 404 page, preferably a 404 crafted to gently push your user to something they may be interested in.

How permanent is a rel="canonical"?
Thanks Ryan. I realize the goal is to not redo them, but we had to put in place some pretty in depth plumbing changes on the site to support canonicals, and I suspect we might make a few tweaks once we see how things play out. I think I really needed a confidence boost that canonicals are only semi-permanent. Thanks a lot!

IIS Work Around 301 Redirects
My recollection is that you can do this redirect page bu page under IIS Admin (inetmgr) as follows: 1. Browse the website you want to do the redirect for. 2. In the right pane, right click on the file you want to redirect, and click "Properties" 3. Under the "File" tab, hit the radio selection "A redirection to a URL" 4. Put the target in the "Redirect to" textarea. 5. Make sure "The exact URL entered above" and "A permanent redirection for this resource" I don't have IIS installed locally otherwise I would test this for you - but this method is referenced in a few places as above. Let me know if this helps you! I have attached a YouTube video below as a visual walkthrough - I am not the creator, just the ermm, locator? ;o) watch?v=FdU_bBp6KX0

How to find highest PR pages by search term?
And a high PR or even mozrank doesn't necessarily mean the biggest audience or the most targeted audience for your product. I've given away product to clubs that had only a Yahoo Group and not even their own website and gotten lots of value out of it for word of mouth and writing about our product on niche-specific forums.

How to get subdomains to rank well?
Hi Kayden, Perhaps it's a better idea to get to the top first and then role out the subdomains. The main drawback here is loss of traffic when you do the 301 redirect. Ross

Let's talk about Facebook Comments!
My concerns about this are... 1) Can search engines see the content?... and 2) what does moderation involve? Here is what I found on the Facebook site about crawlability... (at this URL) The Facebook comments box is rendered in an iframe on your page, and most search engines will not crawl content within an iframe. However, you can access all the comments left on your site via the graph API as described above. Simply grab the comments from the API and render them in the body of your page behind the comments box. We recommend you cache the results, as pulling the comments from the graph API on each page load could slow down the rendering time of the page. For moderation... I am thinking that this will be another problem. Compared to allowing comments via wordpress this has the ability to send the comments out to a lot of people who use facebook. Huge upside there. But I still will probably not use it because moderating the comments would pull me away from jobs that I feel are more important and that I would rather do. .... but that is just my perspective. May work much better for other people.
