RE: Google results not close to matching MOZ PA and SA - Why?
Hi Richard
If you want to be able to do anonymous searches from a browser take a look at Ghost Browser (https://ghostbrowser.com/). It will solve most of the issues with getting non-personalized results, and you can use a proxy server to address any issues with searches from the same IP. I started using it after MzCon this summer and I am very happy with it.

RE: DA/PA Fluctuations: How to Interpret, Apply, & Understand These ML-Based Scores
When communicating with clients about progress I avoid talking about their PR/DA directly but talk in terms of improving (or not) in relationship to their competitors. They really don't care about the NY Times, but about the sites that are directly competing against them. If I can tell them that we closed the gap between their site and their competitors that is all they want to know. If a new index throws us a curve ball, we soften the blow by following up the bad news with a trend line showing that we are moving in the right direction even though there is an aberration in this indexes numbers..

RE: Anything new if determining how many of a sites pages are in Google's supplemental index vs the main index?
Thanks Slava
I had to learn a few words of Russian to figure out how it works, but it is a very interesting product. While I don't think we will ever know exactly whats in the main vs the supplemental I think these results are close to what I thought, based on all the other methods I have tried.

Anything new if determining how many of a sites pages are in Google's supplemental index vs the main index?
Since site:mysite.com *** -sljktf stopped working to find pages in the supplemental index several years ago has anyone found another way to identify content that has been regulated to the supplemental index?

RE: Can you create additional users for Moz Analytics?
Just checking to see if this project has moved forward enough to give us an estimated time frame for rolling this out?

RE: Best tool to check keyword ranks in bulk
There are a number of tools you can use. SEOmoz offers a rank tracking tool. Spyfu does also. You can try the Free Firefox add-in Rank Checker. For bulk checking I use Advanced Web Ranking, <cite>www.advancedwebranking.com/</cite>

RE: Best practice for targeting 'unnatural' location based keyword phrases
It's always better to target a page with a single phrase. However it doesn't mean you can't use your alternate phrases at all. Just don't try to make it compete with your primary phrases.
"So remember Tom's Painting next time you need a Texas Painter."
I'm going to resist any urge to refer to Tom's Texas sized paint brush"

RE: Is this a new type of rich snippet?
What you are seeing are Google Sitelinks. Google makes the decision as to what to show, if anything, based on the structure of your site. If they feel it will help users find information they are looking for it will show.
You can't add them yourself, but if they put up something that you don't think is helpful you can request that it be demoted from within your webmaster tools account.
Hope this helps.

RE: Google Custom Site Search
That's correct. It is a verified website in my Google Webmaster Tools account.
However It doesn't allow me, an Admin, to submit through the Custom Search account.

RE: Image alt attribute vs. plain text in link?
I would be very careful about using the display: none route. Hidden text is considered a no no. If you can't convince the client of the importance of link text then go with the alt tag. I would also name the image files to reflect the anchor text I would like to use.

RE: Ecommerce web site with too many internal links
Take a close look at your analytics and investigate where visitors are going from your home page. If they are following diverse paths deep into your sub categories and individual product pages then leave it alone. If they are predominately going to just the sub categories then you might want to re-think your navigation system.
While SEO is import to drive traffic, remember the main goal is to convert visitors to buyers.

RE: 301 or 404?
I would not want to be generating all those 404 errors. My recommendation would be to 301 them to the top of the category and dynamically provide a error message that the classified they are looking for has expired, but here are lots of other ads in that category that might help them find what they are looking for.
You want to provide a good user experience and this would certainly be better for the user than simply a page not found error message.

RE: What <h>Tag to Use For Global Navigation</h>
I wouldn't use the <h>tag in navigation. The <h>tag is for headings. Just like an outline you did for a paper in school.</h></h>
You would be better off thinking about your anchor text in your navigation. I don't mean stuffing them with keywords, but make them more unique to your content when appropriate.

RE: Is it important to have a geo modifier for local SEO link building?
I like you critical thinking Alan. Too many times people react without thinking through the consequences of those actions.
Don't forget about the geo searches for people who are not in your area but are looking for information on it. I am in Florida but will be doing searches to find out what is going on in Seattle during MOZcon at the end of July. That includes car rental, restaurant, tourist traps (my wife is coming too), maybe even your overnight multi-day pet-sitting service if we bring the dogs as well are heading to Maui for a week to absorb everything the experts can teach me.
By the way. What is that place in Seattle that sells utility kilts? Think I will Google it.
