  • No, this isn't a site I'm affiliated with. I'm curious to see what positive or negative input users have in regards to link building/article marketing.

  • It is a great whiteboard post , actually although the topic they are talking is all about having many sites serving the same content in different languages, while for my question it is about site mirroring (where the site actually server exactly the same content in the same language)... But I am glad that i read this, it seems that if rand was here with us, he would have no problem Geo Locating people by their IP and redirect them to another domain. Yes i know in that friday post, he mentioned that it would cause some of those foreign site un-indexable by google , because google is indexing our site from US. and that is EXACTLY what i want currently http://id.ikt.co.id , i have set the robots.txt to not allow any of its page indexed, and for good measure i have also added a canonical rel on every single page to the http://ikt.co.id version. Sigh, I really would like rand to confirm my conclusion, but it seems like, it is a bit too much to ask him to come here and give me a helping hand (i believe he must be very busy right now, with all of the future conferences coming up) Anyway thanks a lot for your help

  • I agree - it was Google itself that suggested hyphenating keywords in url's. Example - I was just using the Moz keyword tool on a site named sellmybusinesscolorado.com. The search term it was tuned to was "sell business colorado". The tool, and so likely the bots, did not recognize those very words in that long URL. Had it been hyphenated - they would have been recognized. What brought me here was - is hyphenating, itself, non kosher in a sub domain? Thomas, coincidentally - the subdomain I was pondering is pest-control.straza.com. He is a business broker that sells a lot of pest control businesses. I also would do medical.straza.com. These subs will deal with their namesakes as if they were the only businesses they sell. Google recognizes the hyphen as the universal word separator. I stopped using underbars ten years ago - a nasty habit I learned from programmers. I think it is more the ABUSE of a good thing, as it always is, that should be avoided. ........... I didn't name that site, by the way ;-]

  • "quality content = ranks well." Well that's what Goog keeps telling us. ... so are we talking real world or pixie land? Honestly, I knew I was stepping into a pile of crap when I put the "Ranks Well" criteria in there. But, it sure makes for a good litmus test. So yes... quality content = ranks well. ...and the vicious circle continues.

  • I'm at the same point with an ecommerce. I targeted a select amount of keywords too hard at the start. Now I'm looking at the past years ecommerce conversion keywords and fine tuning all my product pages to better rank them.

  • You don't need to drill down to that level really. You can use filtering within the results to show coats by colour etc. There are many examples in ecommerce of different URL structure and layout/navigation. It is difficult to categorically state (no pun intended!) which one is the BEST per se, however, if you work this problem backwards - i.e by generating a list of the keywords you want to target for all of your products, and look at the typical searches for these you will end up with some strong indication of where it is best to place emphasis and this may influence your url structure and navigation elements. As long as useablity isn't overlooked and you create content that naturally allows you to focus on your desired target keywords without trying to create artificial, keyword stuffed content then you should be well on your way.
