Why is the rankings for certain targeted keywords dropping sharply in the past few weeks?
Sounds like you're getting hit by panda. How robust is the content on the pages across your site? Directories are no longer a recommended method of link building. Without the URL it's hard to make a determination as to why you got hit.

.us domains vs .com - What does Google Think?
In the SEOMoz 2011 rankings report, it shows that exact match .com domains are 0.22 correlated with higher rankings, whereas exact match domain names (with other domain suffixes, like .us) are only 0.17 correlated with higher rankings. So, it still appears that .com is still the boss.

Domain authority decrease after open site explorer update. Reasons?
Hey guys! Keri is right - we have done some updating with our crawler and this index represents the newest version - unfortunately with a few hiccups. People seem to be seeing two issues with this new index - link counts and domain authorities are going up or down considerably and there is an increase of "questionable" inbound links. Both issues are due to the same root cause: our new crawler is built to be fresher, but it is going deeper into domains, and, unfortunately not visiting as many domains. Domains with a high MozRank are getting crawled deeper, but domains with middle to lower MozRanks are not getting crawled. Our top priority now is to get the domain diversity back up to or better than that of our last update as was originally designed. It's fixable and we will be focusing all efforts on this. Previous crawling worked by selecting a list of the top MozRank URLs (around 10B) and then crawling one page from each of them. Now we are crawling links as we discover them, and crawling high MozRank sites daily, weekly or monthly. The advantage of the new crawlers is we are crawling all the time and so we will have fresher data. As links are added, we are much more likely to discover these deeper links. The new crawl had 59B urls, a lot more than the previous 42B, however, more of these links are from the same domain. The reason for the "questionable" links is due to the fact that the crawler is reaching deeper into the domains where there are more download links. We are currently looking into fixing this so these won't be counted as links. We'll let you know as soon as that issue is resolved! We are really sorry for the inconvenience. Once we have this new crawler dialed it will provide much fresher and higher quality data!! Thanks, Carin

MozRank and mozTrust computations
Hi Ryan, You can learn more about MozRank and MozTrust at the following pages: http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/mozrank http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/moztrust The most basic reason why google.com doesn't have a perfect 10 for MR and MT is because no site does. Mozrank is the global link authority and importance of a site independent of a specific query. Those sites with a higher MozRank are likely to rank higher than their lesser ranking counterparts and not even google.com ranks #1 for every keyword possible in a search engine. PA/DA are directly related to how well a site will rank in Google.com using a variety of different metrics. Read about Page Authority and Domain Authority here: http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/page-authority http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/domain-authority Definitely, check out those links though to learn all about these different metrics.

Link from an app to a website?
If the app isnt accesses by search engine crawlers, then it would not have an SEO benefit. Yet it would be beneficial for Traffic for sure. If the app is also hosted on a website or mobile site it is beneficial for seo.

Should I index tag pages?
Recently had the same issue and we went with not indexing them. Two issues mainly - the duplicate content issue (same results being attributed to author, posts, categories etc - which i don't believe is too much of a problem. The other one though was the general titles being attribute to the results were pretty average. We tested both indexing of and excluding and didnt see any increase in traffic with them, so went with the exclude option. Hope it helps. Good luck.

Optimize a PowerPoint presentation
While this is a thread from many years ago, I'm wondering if anyone has any relatively new insight about this? A team I'm working with plans on taking article content and breaking them out into PPT presentations/slides which will be embedded on their site. My concern is the lack of optimization this offers regarding SEO. I know there's countless articles on using slideshare for SEO and lead generation, but are there optimization tips if one is embedding the actual PPT into the page?

Does removing product listings help raise SERP's on other pages?
I have always taking the point of view of keeping out of stock products on site and including related products on the page taking the more content more traffic perspective. As long as you don't have say over 20% out of stock products I wouldn't be too concerned about losing too much link juice to these pages. Yes they will drag down your site conversion rate but they should increase revenue. You could always have separate conversion reports for your out of stock and in stock products.

Shall I fix "most Common Errors" for a website that ranked top 3 on Google (difficult KW)?
Hi although you may be a little reluctant to make changes to a site which is performing well I would take some direction from the error report. It will help. You may find that you start ranking better for main keywords and also start picking up some other keywords also. Too many links; this is not always straightforward if you are an ecommerce site, though if your links are in footer and for seo purposes it may be worth deciding which are important. 302 redirect. Google prefer 301 permanent redirects Title tag too long. This may be a good exercise in that perhaps your title tags are not as well optimised as they might be, not only for SEO purposes but also for human consumption because this is what is bolded inorganic results. A good title tag will increase click through, therefore it could be the case that lower ranking competitors with better title tags are actually getting more visits from organic. Meta description. The same advice here. You should have a unique meta description for all your important pages. This is what will appear in the organic results snippet and again better meta descriptions achieve more traffic. Sean

Blog Distribution
I believe that the answer depends upon two things.... 1) the goal that you have for this content... and ... 2) the quality of content your writer is producing. A) If your goal is to spread a message then you should syndicate like mad giving the content, publishing the content and promoting the content to everybody everywhere who is willing to share it or distribute it. B) If your goal is to get some links then what you do depends upon the quality of your content. i) if the quality of your content is "best-on-the-web" in your niche then post it on your own website only and promote in channels that do not require you to give the entire content away. These include stumble upon, reddit, slashdot, digg, twitter, facebook and more. ii) if the quality of your content is less than "best-on-the-web" then improve it and do the above iii) if the quality of your content is really bad then the best thing you can do is give it to your competitor to post on his site

Home page URL disappears in Google after switching to WordPress
The Homepage URL disappeared because you deleted the file so it no longer exists. Redirect the old index.html URL to the new wordpress homepage URL using modrewrite in HTACCESS. You need to do that to pass the homepage PR2 pagerank juice to the new homepage URL or you're throwing the PR away and most sites homepage is the one with the highest PR.
