  • Half our domain contains a very prominent keyword for our business. The second half is less so prominent. Few to none would use a search exactly like our domain name to find our services. Did you ever consider moving your site from www.k-w.com to www.kw.com after you bought it? This is the second part of my quandary - even if I pay the $24,000 that is being asked for www.kw.com, I still have to consider whether constantly quoting to people 'oh it's www dot keyword hyphen keyword dot com' is worth it, and whether the negatives of having a hyphenated domain outweigh the negatives of losing rankings for ages by moving. This is moving away from the original question a bit, and though I'd love to discuss this with you further, I understand if you don't have time.

  • Hi Tony, I had a very quick look at your site. Content ideas etc. from below are good. One of the easiest ways to increase this aspect is to make it easy to Tweet / Share. Can you bring AddThis or similar Share services into the design of the site? If people can see these on the site it is easy for them to share. I increased Shares of a TV Advert by 10 times by including this feature (video been on the site for 2 years, one year of which with AddThis). I hope this helps. Regards Geoff

  • I'm ashamed to say that accidentally I had a large number of 302 redirects on pages on one of my sites for a while and inadvertently missed them.  Once I spotted them I changed them to 301's and the impact was significant for rankings.  From experience, I would definitely recommend them.  It's best practice and if there is any link equity to be had, it's easy pickings for your client.

  • Hi, The reason that the Crawl Diagnostics report is divided into three different sections is because the impact of the things highlighted within is completely different. Warnings are there because it is a known fact that "Pages with crawl warnings are often penalized by search engines." It is up to you whether you take notice of them, and obviously if you have specific conditions on those pages, such as the presence of a noindex meta tag, then obviously you may choose not to bother adding them. That doesn't actually make the function spammy. It just means that the warning isn't relevant for your particular situation. Requiring the App to check pages with the noindex meta against pages that have missing meta descriptions and remove them from the reporting would add a whole other layer of complexity to the tool. In short, the tool is meant to identify pages with missing meta descriptions. It does that very well. If you don't need to use the information then you are free to ignore it. Sha

  • This seems to be no problem for other directories. Take, just for example, dmoz.org. It is perfectly fine with all those links.

  • I haven't seen it anywhere naturally, but I agree that it will make it even more less likely for users to go to page 2 (out of those that did in the first place, that is). Since the page numbers are listed under the ads and not directly under the last organic result, those that are able to distinguish between paid and organic are likely to stop scrolling once they hit the ads. On the flip side, users would no longer have the ads on the side of the page which cuts out clutter while they are viewing organic results.

  • This all depends on what your site is written in. We have an extensive guide for Apache, and in this post, Jen links to several other rewrites in different languages.

  • We have vendors from whom I was hoping to get links. To make it more enticing to them I was planning to select a small number of vendors (with good site metrics) and create a "Featured Vendor" module on some pages that would link back to the vendor's site as well--thereby created reciprocal links. I was planning to only have one vendor to one page and only for the pages that we are locally targeting. Is this a bad strategy? Thanks!
