Duplicate homepage content
Using the in the header of the page will tell most bots who care that the various versions of the page URL that bring up this content are really the page referenced in the canonical link tag. This is very handy when you have index pages that show up for /, index, and /folderName. Since the same page is actually loaded for these the bot will see the canonical tag and should remember they are all the same (or just go to the page you tell it to). This is usually the easiest solution (if you can automate it for most pages) as you may not catch all of your weird URL situations with one 301 redirect. Hope that helps.

How do you optimize for compound keywords
I use google analytics- Is there something special I should set up to track this? Or is it something to do with filtering? Or any ideas on where to learn to set it up to track conversions and traffic for this 1 group of terms would be a great help. Thank you for your comments EGOL Handcrafter

Juicy Link Finder..
Hi Simon, If you're looking for really good link building opportunities (obviously you should be) I wouldn't look any further than the Link Moses service offered by Eric Ward. It's a paid service but for $8/month it's ridiculous value. Joost de Valk wrote a great review/recommendation of his services. I think it's fair to say that Eric's site looks pretty awful but his link building experience is second to none. I signed up just over a week ago and already have some great tips. Hope that helps, Brendan.

Re-designed website... how to increase organic traffic?
I took a quick look at your site and I see a couple of problems right off. both www and non-www display. Decide which you want to use, and write a redirect to the proper version (let us know if you'd like help figuring out how to do that). You may have duplicate content problems beyond just the non-www and www. How much of your product descriptions are taken straight from the manufacturer? The first product that I randomly tried had the exact same description in Amazon. The search engines don't want to show results from 20 domains that are products with identical descriptions. Also, did you redo any URLs and possibly forget to redirect pages? Look at your server error log or in Google Webmaster Tools and SEOmoz tools for 404s and redirect pages as appropriate. Other people will likely have additional suggestions, but here are a couple to get you started.

Generic domain for SEO versus Brand name
Most SEOs have the opinion that exact match domains are a bit too powerful in Google's current algorithm, and I think most of us would bet our money on this tactic falling out of favor in the future. Although admittedly, it has stuck around for longer than I think most of us would have expected. Branded traffic, on the other hand, isn't going to be affected nearly as much by any sort of algorithm change in the future - and it converts insanely well. This should be the primary goal of anybody with a business. Of course generic traffic is important, but in my opinion, it's not important enough to put building my brand in the backseat, or to affect the way I choose a domain for my company. Now if this was an affiliate website or some kind of blog that I was launching in order to gain traffic from advertising, my opinion might be different. But because this is a company, and presumably one that you intend to be around for a long time to come, I think branding is the most important consideration. If I had a sweet generic domain name in addition to my company domain, I might consider making a small microsite expressly for linkbuilding purposes, although I have to emphasize here that the vast, vast, vast majority of your effort should go into working on your primary domain.

Most Painless way of getting Duff Pages out of SE's Index
If all /home directories should be removed, and they all correlate directly to the same URL without the /home then the best means to correct the issue would be a single regex expression to redirect the URLs. Once you add the redirect Google's index should be cleaned up in about 30 days.

Title of home page is changed to domain name in SERPs
Google is doing this to lots of sites. They do it in the organic SERPs and also in Adwords. My sites have this problem too. I believe that it is a service to some webmasters who have a nice domain but write crappy title tags but it also hides brilliant marketing.

Is Unique Content in the First Fold Better than Below the Fold?
I would focus more on the structure/hierarchy of your pages. Your H1 tags (one and only one per page) should logically be placed above the fold to a user. This is just good page design. The H1 is an important tag to any search engine. Ironically, well designed web pages seem to have many correlating benefits to SEO. But as Himanshu indicates I don't know that Google actually calculates where the fold is. The first challenge is that they would have to parse the CSS stylesheets and actually calculate approximate position of the page elements relative to an assumed page fold. Another challenge is that for each site the demographics vary as to the fold of its typical users. For example when I look at pages on my iPhone or iPad it is drastically different than when I view them on my 30" screen attach to my laptop. I view certain web sites when I am mobile for entertainment and others at my desk as they are work related.

Putting nav code at the bottom of a page?
I have placed the nav code at the bottom of the HTML doc at times. I can't really say that it is a significant difference for SEO. It doesn't take a lot of work to do if you are skilled with HTML/CSS but I can't really say that this methodology will have a long term benefit for SEO. HTML 5 has new tags that sites should adopt such as <nav>and other tags to indicate what that chunk of content is. These tags are supported by all major browsers at this point. I don't know all the specific browser versions. I would recommend this moving forward where possible. By using this tags the crawlers likely will not factor in position in the document to understand the importance of chunks of content.</nav>

Should H1s be used in the logo? If they are and it is dynamic on each page to relate to the page content, is this detrimental to the site rather than having it in the page content?
Brian, I agree with everyone else. H1 should be used for the main heading of each page. H2 should be used for a subheading. H1's, H2''s, H3's, etc are used for the sizing and coloring of the content. As far as search engines go; it's helpful to let it know what the main subject of that page is. Hope this helps!
