Google Products Research Tools??
Done a bit of googling on this but can't find any suitable tools. The only approach I can think of is to attempt to guess the URL of the product feed e.g. http://www.websitename.com/googlebase.xml. Obviously this is a bit of a long shot!

Best Structure for Multi-Language/International Website
Hi Phil From an SEO standpoint and in an ideal world, dealing with localisation issues, it would be preferred to have each country specific site hosted within that particular country. But this throws up additional hosting cost as well as individual link building efforts to each of those domains. The best way would be to redirect any country specific versions of the domain to the relevant root folder. For example, if we were to launch hurco in Italy, the preference would be to place the Italian content within a subfolder (i.e. http://www.hurco.com/it/) but also purchase http://www.hurco.it and use a 301 redirect the site to the Italian subfolder. This is done both to preserve your brand assets in other countries and markets, but also to avoid any confusion should a user mistakenly remember your brand but not your site. The subfolders or portions of the website can be targeted to the local market by way of designation within Google Webmaster Tools.

Rel canonical to dissimilar pages
Hi Ryan I have tested this exact situation and actually the test is still running. I haven't seen a penalty, but the page doesn't rank as well as the real page did (They are 7% alike using the tool you mentioned). I'm also pretty sure that the value doesn't get transfered as if you use a 301 redirect. I wouldn't recommend using rel canonical for non similar pages as it's neither relevant or good for the user but also because it's apparently well thought through by Google to prevent webmasters from cheating. rel canonical should only be used if the two pages are very similar or have the exact same story.

Links to Facebook pages
I figured out the root issue. The site's facebook page had an Age Rating of "alcohol related". It seems if you have any age setting other then "13+" then the page is not publicly visible unless you are logged in to facebook. Mystery solved. Thanks to all for sharing your ideas.

If you only want your home page to rank, can you use rel="canonical" on all your other pages?
Here's a post from Dr. Pete about doing just that. He lost traffic, he lost indexed pages, and had to beg to Google for a reinclusion request even after he fixed things back again. You don't want to do it. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/catastrophic-canonicalization

301 an old URL with a ? in the URL?
A 301 redirect is sent to the browser as part of the header of the page. If Magento returns the same page for both URLs, it should return the same header information and you should only have to make the change once.

City targeting on home page
I would do in this order.... Make content rich service description pages for Town A, B, and C. When they start ranking as well as your current homepage I would then reoptimize the homepage for the Portland metro area.

Rankings Report Visits Number timing?
Hi Charles, Sorry to see that your question hasn't been answered yet! I just stumbled upon it way down in the list, so am assuming that you still need an answer. First, you are absolutely correct in deducing that the default Traffic Data report is based on weekly data from Google Analytics. You can also see Monthly data by going from the report you see in the campaign overview to the Traffic Data page (either click See Full Traffic Summary, or click Traffic Data on the Pro App menu bar). Once on the summary page, you will see that there is a selector at the top which allows you to change the filter to monthly instead of weekly. It is important to remember that these Analytics results are for the preceding period (ie the past 30 days, not month to date). Hope that helps, Sha

Understanding competitors link building tactics (possibly black hat stuff that seems to work)
Where do people usually source these blogs which typically contain material on a range of different topics? Are these probably paid links? If they are small articles on a blog, they may be using blogvertise.com. A blog network that lets you buy links on the blogs on the network. The owner of the blog writes you a very small article with your link for a fee. How do they get so much content out there, albeit similar content, to so many of the hastily cobbled efforts? Would that be an agency with connections or a blogging community site? blogvertise.com again How can any search engine lend credibility to my competitor’s links when the article below has nonsense for penis enlargement stuff. Seriously?!? Often these kind of tactics work for a time, but often they eventually do get some kind of penalty. These grey/blackhat tactics can work for months, or even years..often depending on how black they are. How are they not being penalised? They might at some pont. It’s frustrating because these aren’t the tactics I want to employ but they seems to offer success, but also, if your link is in an article that followed by another on penis pills, how I can take Google seriously in its stated aim of making things this prone to manipulation. I always think a lot of link building is somewhat grey unless someone is linking to your content because its awesome without any incentive or encouragement. It's not perfect, but you have to work with it.
