  • I just thought of one report that's quick to run and always good to share. 1. Go into keyword explorer and change the drop down to root domain 2. Enter the client's domain and hit run 3. A new screen should pop up with the option to add more domains. Add one or two of his competitors in the field below his URL and hit the "compare sites" button 4. Take a screenshot of the resulting graph What's nice about this is that you're providing something visual you can talk to without overwhelming them with data. You can talk about the problem you see in this graph and how you can address it. Hope that helps!

  • Nikki–if you feel comfortable sharing one of the sites, that would be helpful for further investigation! It seems like there's a lot you're blocking in your robots.txt that you might need (though that's hard to suss out without knowing your site): Disallow: /blogs/+, Disallow: /blogs/%2B, Disallow: /blogs/%2b assuming /blogs is the primary page path for any other blog content (e.g. /blogs/blog-title-goes-here) Disallow: /design_theme_id assuming this is one of your stylesheets, you should probably remove this. Disallow: /gift_cards/* no idea what comes after /gift_cards/[here], but this may be unnecessary There may be other reasons Google doesn't reliably see your site as mobile friendly–if you can provide an example site, then we can dig deeper

  • Hello Kingalan1, I did not see a screenshot. Has it been removed? If Google is unable to access the old URLs (i.e. URL Not Allowed) they will be unable to see the redirect to the new one. I'd like to help you with this. Can I see the screenshot or can you give me some examples of old URLs?

  • Equivalent means two or more pages that even if are targeting different languages and/or countries serve the same purpose. The easiest example is the homepage of the same brand that is targeting 3 different countries. One may be in Spanish, one in English and one in Italian; plus they can be in 3 different domain names. Despite of all the differences, they are equivalent. The same is for services pages or product pages. If product A is sold in the englis website, and Spanish and Italian one, even if their URLs structure is different and their content is different (for instance for the same different language), however they still equivalent. However, if your site are targeting different countries each one with a different language from the others, you can also consider the idea of not implementing the hreflang, but in those pages where brand name search is prevalent (how me page, contact page). but, yes, the hreflang is a must if two or more sites are in the same language even if each one of them targets a different country (eg: USA, Canada and UK). Finally, the fact that the different website you have are not Morris sites, its a plus and ideally what all websites doing international must behave.

  • Good morning! Thanks so much for bringing your question to the community. This is what I'd recommend: Instead of having a landing page for each city + a contact page for each city, I suggest you combine them. The landing page should contain the contact information, as well as the content. No need to make visitors go to two different pages. So, simplify here, and 301 redirect the 10 contact pages to the 10 city landing pages. Definitely don't recommend building out yet another set of pages for this additional content you've described. Make the single landing page for each city as comprehensive and unique as possible. Put all of the relevant content about your services in a given city on that city's landing page. It is important to avoid weak, duplicate pages, for sure. Hopefully, you can tell different stories on the different pages, even if the services you offer are the same. Some good ways to diversify the narrative on a landing page include showcasing your projects in the city and including reviews from customers in the city (both text and video w/transcript).   • That's great news.... but it wasn't me.  I didn't do anything. It's possible that a competitor complained and they did a deep dive into the images being used by the site. I have a competitor with images similar to mine.  Infringers are often taking images from their site and mine.  This compeitor is extremely aggressive about fighting infringement and they have solved a lot of my problems.  One of the few situations where I have enjoyed having them in my SERPs.

  • Hola Lucía! 1. Google likes mainly these 3 formats: jpg, png and gif. 2. The less weight you have the images BETTER !. Here I leave a software where you can reduce the images with percentages of how much it reduces it and with different qualities: http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/imageoptimizer/ is very easy to use, try it and you will see. 3. Use the "alt" tag, or alternative text. Google is not able to interpret the information offered by the images; that is why you have to use the ALT attribute. 4. Use the "title" tag or title of the image. It never hurts to put the title on the images. With these 4 things you will ensure a good optimization of your images.

  • I read about "Fred" since Moz mentioned it in their newsletter yesterday.   • Hi, I am using category pages on my blog, but what to do with a view all page of all the articles? Example: articles 1-10 are in category A, articles 11-20 in category B and articles 21-30 in category C. But there is also a view all category page with articles 1-30. Should I 'noindex' this page (although this isn't really duplicate content since the articles per page are not the same as in the separate categories) or can I just let it be indexed?

  • Hi Kingalan I can understand you not wishing to fill your home page with spurious content but you need something to tell the user what the website is all about. It's OK adding a great title but that is only a maximum of 70 characters, depending on the width of the letters. So you really can't convey the full meaning of the page with so few words. (The user rarely sees the title anyway) Similarly, the description only allows 315 characters but is not used as a ranking factor, so that is not considered as home page content. (And is rarely seen by the user) The alt text on the images on the page will be read as part of the content so I would recommend one major feature image with a strong key phrase for the alt. (Wordpress calls this the 'focus keyword' but I would simply call it your 'primary keyword' or phrase). Other images can use semantically related keywords and phrases. My advice is to write around 300+ words of contextually rich content designed to be read by the website visitor whether you believe it will be read or not. This is headed by an H1 which echoes the title using semantically connected keywords. I'd consider this to be the minimum to convey the meaning of the page and be able to use keyword rich content to rank it for the satisfaction of user intent. If you need more than 300 words then separate into blocks with H2 headers. The important thing to remember is to make the writing compelling and relevant - people do read homepage content, so rather than thinking how few words you can write, think about 'what can I write that is great for the user and shows Google the theme of the page' I hope that helps, Regards Nigel
