Do Digital Magazines Yudu/Issuu Pass Domain Authority to PDF Backlinks
Hi! I wrote that article. I asked Gary Ilyes about this in a middle of my talk at Big Digital in Adelaide last year as he was in the audience. He said yes, PDF links do pass PageRank. That said, I still use header canonicalisation to consolidate PDF into HTML files. Just to be sure.

Blogspot blog is subdomain, but domain is changing - How will this affect backlinks?
Hi Robert, Just want to be clear: you're going from having the website lovelytraining.com and the blog lovelyblog.lovelytraining.com to having the website lovely.training and the blog lovelyblog.lovelytraining.com. Right? If so - yup, you're going to lose that subdomain connection. There's no formal way you can tell Google that lovelyblog.lovelytraining.com is essentially part of the lovely.training site, but you can link to the blog in your header or footer so they're clearly partners. Have you thought about migrating your blog to lovely.training/blog/? That's the best way to consolidate link equity. Best, Kristina

Google Indexing Request - Typical Time to Complete?
I want to be clear that I'm not referring to a re-crawl, but a re-index. Now I realize there are a gazillion ranking signals and most of the stronger signals are probably not on-page signals (although page title, headers, and anchor text combined is probably a relatively strong signal) so that for most situations, on-page changes are going to like move you from the middle of page 2 to top 3 (except for obscure - low competition long tail keywords of course.) So is there a delay between re-crawl and re-rank (I'll use that term instead of re-index). I also realize the rank can change based on changes on the other sites in the SERPS. I suppose the re-rank delay could be verified by taking a 'sacrificial' page and totally changing the title, headings, and other on-page items to a completed different keyword theme and see how long it takes for the rank to go down for the previous keyword theme and up for the new theme. I would think Google would quite possibly add a delay, even a random delay length, to discourage people from constantly requesting re-indexing of a single page to see the rank change. Granted the change if any would be small since on-page signals as I mentioned are a sliver of the signal pie. So most SEO's I would think would be of the opinion this 'trial-and-error' is a waste of time?

New Website SEO Implications
Thank you so much for the extremely long and detailed response. Here's an example URL: https://www.bodycatalyst.com.au/technology/cryolipolysis-fat-freezing The /technology/ sub folder is new. This target page now doesn't have a link from the homepage which I suspect is a critical factor.

SEO for Videos and Infographics
That will help if your video is about other videos, or you made an infographic about other infographics, or if you're specifically optimizing for a term like "housekeeping video" or "housekeeping infographic". Optimizing for either of these two things can be pretty tricky and have separate guides. I'd recommend breaking them into two topics. For example, video optimization is extremely nuanced. Are you trying to rank higher in the organic listings because you noticed that videos are ranking highly, or are you trying to move up in a carousel? Or are you trying to use the video to curate backlinks and social shares? Are you trying to promote an already created video or did you create the video with a specific goal and strategy in mind? Answering these questions really affects a ton of of your Video SEO strategy, right down to where you host it and how you promote it. I wrote an in depth article on this earlier this year that I think will help you and answers a few questions you may have: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/video-seo-2018-beyond-brett-elliott/ For infographics, I don't have a great resource handy, so I'll have to defer to someone else who has a bit more experience. Mostly I've seen or been involved with using infographics as link-bait and that's about the extent of it for me.

How often should I update the content on my pages?
Great advice here, I'm with casey on constant updating and that's a solid article from Herb. But for me you're asking the wrong question. Sure updating content is great but you should really be testing it. So test meta descriptions, H1's and other elements using a tool (there's this great keyword tool I believe it's called MOZ lol - lots of chat about that lately - they've really made some great changes.) But in the interests of openness I also use SEM Rush and GOOGLE that's the best keyword tool out there. Just get googling and see what sorts of articles are overtaking you and model them and make better versions. Having a young kid (congrats) means you're tired and creativity is really hard when you're tired and stressed - even for very creative people. So model the articles of others and use the keyword suggestions and volumes as a guide. But always be testing and tweaking. Add just a paragraph and revisit and change up some words and phrases and keep it fresh. Use the date in the Meta Description. CTR in the SERPS is really important and If I see 2018 up there i'm going to click on it. Don't just add '2018' to everything though because google will catch you out. you actually need to add some contemporary stuff in there and it will revitalise and refresh the content. Also remember that there have been lots of changes at google lately. So your drop in traffic might be external ranking factors bumping other sites up because google can understand them better and is better able to get good user feedback from Chrome. Also be granular about it. Ask yourself of each article, "does this answer the question?" Is it up to date and is it correctly optimised using the keywords that are coming up in your research. The best SEO tool in the world is the 100 billion neurons sitting on your shoulders. Use that tool first and foremost

Client wants to repackage in-depth content as PowerPoint files and embed on site. SEO implications?
Hi Brett, Yes that is my question, thank you! First, I appreciate your response! Second, I had not found anything related to SlideShare slides being crawlable by engines. Do you happen to have a source/link that they are? I understand the ability to no-index the page an embedded SlideShare is on, but if the client wants only a single SlideShare embedded on a page, my guess/assumption is that the page could be viewed as having thin content. My suggestion to them was to have supporting copy/content related to the SlideShare added to the page so it was better optimized. Thoughts?

I want to transfer an old Blogger blog onto my new site
No worries. Likewise, I mostly work with WordPress, so Blogger is definitely not my forte. It hasn't been updated for some time, but something like this plugin may help: https://wordpress.org/plugins/blogger-301-redirect/ Or otherwise, some further digging may be needed Sorry, I can't be of more help. Good luck Ed!

Should you set an hreflang if the website is only in one language
Hello Daniel, What Casey is correct. Also, keep in mind 2 things: If your site has a ccTLD, there is no need to do nothing. Not having a ccTLD, you can set the preferred country+Language in Search Console. Here some really useful resources about that: Multi-regional and multilingual sites - Google Search Console International checklist - Moz Blog Using the correct hreglang tag - Moz Blog Guide to international website expansion - Moz Blog Tool for checking hreflang anotations - Moz Blog Hope it helps. Best luck. GR

Link with Anchor to header of the page: Keyword is ranking
Hi Jonathan, I hope that I can (at least partially) answer your question. We know that great content and positive engagement metrics are far more important than basic optimisation strategies like keywords in H1 or the URL. So, whilst some of the SEO 'low hanging fruit' is missing it actually counts for relatively little. I've had a quick look at the page and there's a lot of very detailed content that looks like it will do a good job of being useful / helpful to users. The challenge would be to create content that's even better, easier or more useful than this.
