  • Hi Jesse, You've received some thoughtful advice so far here from the community. I think it would help if you could clarify your business model, as this is quite important in terms of Local SEO. Does your client have a single physical address or multiple physical addresses throughout California? I'm having a hard time picturing how a single location business could repair appliances throughout the whole length of California, so maybe I'm not understand your business model correctly. And, if the situation is that the business only has a single physical location in the city of Los Angeles, why would you need to rank in cities statewide? In other words, how would it help for the business to rank for 'appliance repair Eureka' unless services can be rendered up there in the north? I think the more specific you can be about your business model, the more targeted advice you'll receive here. Hope this helps!

  • I've used various directory sites such as Zvents with no problems. If you can, try to use a different description on the event site than you do on your own site, this will keep your site from running into duplicate content issues, as well as help the content on the event sites get indexed. Including links is somewhat risky in the post-Penguin world. You should be fine as long as you don't overdo it, but sites like Zvents will syndicate their event listings to dozens of other sites, so you can quickly end up with a bunch of links pointing to your site. If you're worried about Penguin, using the URL as a link is a pretty safe approach. Just don't be spammy about it and go submitting those links to hundreds of sites, they probably don't carry much link value anyway.

  • Thanks Takeshi! In your experience, were you using the older or newer version? Have you had any experience with the Cloud? I think the point of contention on our team is whether it's worth the investment initially since we don't know what sort of reception it would get. They are thinking of slating it until post-redesign and after we see how active the community is. On the other hand, since we're about to embark on the redesign, we're wondering if we would save a lot of headache and cost if we just implemented it from the get-go instead of trying to retrofit it later. I'm going to bring these questions on a conference call Thursday with them, but if anyone has any insight here - I'm all ears! Thank you!

  • Yeah, I actually requested that the canonical tag be added into the editable fields area when creating a page. Works like a charm — except when you're trying to add canonicals for /content/. Because it's automatically added in the CMS, I error when trying to create a canonical stack for: mainsite.org mainsite.org/content mainsite.org/Content mainsite.org/content/index mainsite.org/Content/index Your suggestion is definitely worth floating to the developers, though...thanks!

  • Hey There I would download all of your link data from; webmaster tools ose majestic maybe ahref too And pull it together and comb through it for bad links. I think you'll really have to look through them to see what's going on. Maybe something was missed? First you need to confirm there actually are no spammy/bad links In a removal / disavow situation the goal is to remove/disavow ONLY bad links - which there could only be 10 out of 100's - so you should sort through them. -Dan

  • Yeah, a status code of 200 is generally a good thing. Could you direct message me through the site and tell me which campaign you're seeing the errors on. I can log in and try to take a deeper look.

  • That is a debatable question. In my opinion, I seriously doubt Google would have a problem figuring out that this is the same page. I don't think it would cause you to lose any pagerank. However, if you just put a rel canonical tag on that page it should take care of it without even needing to worry about the redirect.

  • Hi there! Thanks for posting this. We don't have an alert for that kind of thing currently, but that's a great idea. We've been thinking about adding an alert system in the future, and would definitely include something like this with that project. We don't have an ETA yet, but I'll let you know when we do. Thanks! • If I'm understanding the question correctly, then this seems to be my issue as well. I started two Moz campaigns three weeks ago, but my Dashboard data only has historical information for the first week. I'm unable to see any other timeframes (timeframe dropdown only has the first week available). Is there a delay involved, or is something up with my data?
