  • You may not be able to change much content, but you can add content. Add a human element that discusses why product A may be better than product C. Rand also discusses something similar in today's Whiteboard Friday at http://moz.com/blog/handling-duplicate-content-across-large-numbers-of-urls.

  • In the interests of closing off the question, I've decided to keep the existing content on the same URLs and refresh the UI so it provides a better platform for hosting the high quality content. My rationale is that I did find backlinks pointing to some of the content which would be a shame to lose, and setting up so many 301s to a new location did not seem like a good use of time.

  • Hi Abe, So, for the trophy shop, my 6 point list, above, is a good blueprint. For the virtual sites, however, Google+ Local is not an option as these business models will not be eligible for local inclusion. Important to understand this difference.

  • Hi Daniel, You are correct using canonical's is for content that is the same or very close to the same. Here's a good video from google themselves if you have 20 minutes to spare https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139394?hl=en -Nick

  • Thanks for the feedback, Federico!  That actually helps a lot and also helps confirm what our programmer has just done (which is changed all the canonical tags to the uppercase URL).  I guess now we'll play the waiting game and see if Google reduces the number or duplicates after it's next crawl. Thanks again!

  • Hey Stephen, Thanks for the question! We actually don't have an API for our reports and campaigns. We are hoping to have that in the future but It would definitely be down there road. We do offer many of our reports in CSV that could potentially be integrated into your system. Thanks! Joel.

  • Hello KJ, This is Abe from the Moz Help team We had a temporary outage with campaign creation and you should now be able to add your campaign as long as you aren't passing your 50,000 pages crawled limit. Also try switching browsers and see if that will make this work for you. If you have trouble getting past the name and website entrance screen, please email help@Moz.com and we can dig in further. I have tested campaign creation in your account and it seems to be working from here.

  • They use a ton of guest writers.  I agree w/Oliver that it's probably the writer placing the links. However, they should probably do more review/qa or else it could potentially hurt them in the long run. Great catch Paddy!

  • I use a 5D Mk III, three Arri 750 lights and Sennheiser MKE Lav mics for the DistilledLive videos - EXAMPLE For talking head videos, I don't think there is a massive difference between using a good lav vs using a boom microphone - you can get great quality from both. Similarly, the difference between a DSLR and a good camcorder is relatively marginal as well for simple recordings. The things that really make a difference are firstly understand how to set up your lights, and secondly having some post production skills. Lighting will be the major factor in determining the quality of your image and you need to find a way to effectively remove shadow while keeping a natural skin tone on your subject. Once you've mastered the lighting, you need to understand basic colour correction and grading - as well as how to mix and master audio tracks. For vocals, you want to cut quite heavily any superfluous frequencies at the top and bottom end that just pick up noise, as well as adding compression and a bit of reverb to bring some life to the sound.

  • These are my main points. If my links are taking me tweeting them to get added (some are over a year old with good PA) then my competitors need to tweet their backlinks as well. But if they do not know to do that, then the Mozscape that I am looking at for my competitors is seriously out of date as well. If I start noticing positive changes in their sites, I cannot do any kind of research with Mozscape, since the index is outdated. About your first crawl statement. What you are saying is there are two indexes, correct? One index that has pages with PA and DA assigned. Then another index of pages that have actually been crawled. Then you merge those indexes to make the Mozscape index and pages with PS and DA that have not been crawled are just orphaned and used for the toolbar. What factors decide whether a page is crawled or just assigned a rank? And how can Mozscape be deemed accurate without actually using referral url information?

  • Hi Andy, Can you provide a bit more information? Like Christy said, did you write meta descriptions for the other 20 blog posts?  Which CMS platform are you using? More information will help. Thank you!
