  • In recent months google has taken a dim view of paid links in blogs etc. They prefer them to be nofollowed and show that its an advertorial. That being said lets assume your keeping this under the radar and are not going to have any issues with negative SEO. In my opinion it's hard to put a price on it there's diminishing returns as the volume increases however the exact numbers etc i'm not aware of. I would think if you have a link from them every few months it would show they like you but if you have too many to quick and the content is not relevant I would think the benefits would be less. From a PR and Traffic point of view its good publicity so i would price it based on the potential customer impact and slightly ignore the SEO side of things after the first half dozen or so.

  • So, there's nothing algorithmic that would "flag" or penalise your channel as such and it wouldn't necessarily be "bad" for SEO as such, but I'm confused on a couple of fronts. Firstly, how you would include other's videos on your YouTube channel? Do you mean to just make playlists with other interesting videos included (this is totally fine), or are you actively going to upload other peoples videos? If so, would you have permission to use them? Secondly, why would you want to do this? Bear in mind that YouTube is generally a really really bad channel for anything sales focused or promotional. If you're trying to drive traffic and sales, you're almost certainly better off self hosting your videos rather than putting them on YouTube (more details here and here) and unless you're trying to get tons and tons of subscribers (not really a relevant strategt for an Ecommerce site) then there's nothing wrong with having a leaner channel that just has a few videos on it. In short - What use case is going to benefit you by having users watch other people's videos on YouTube?

  • HI Chris thanks for your thoughts. Just watched the Vid, which is great & we will review our content. Of course its chicken & egg, without volume visitors, as we arent on Page1, its difficult to fully understand customer behaviour with regards sharing etc. Whilst i have also seen short & long pages work, I havent any experience or checked the results of when on the same site they have keywords that overlap & are inter-related, such as the example i gave. For example, funeral planning will also show search results for funeral plans & yet have different volumes of searches when checking in Adwords Keyword Planner, so i want to target both, and currently i have them on differing pages - so is this the right strategy? I know that off page factors will also effect my overall ranking but im keen to get the optimum on page structure. What do you think? Ash

  • For now, I will have to stick to my over-optimization theory, in part because I have seen it too many times and have nothing else to go on short of a full audit. Even natural links can cause it. It is not fair, to an extent, but it happens a lot.

  • Hi Ruchy, I am not following as to why you want to add the nodollow. If you are doing business with him and there is no money in exchange, then there is no reason to nofollow. If there is money changing hands in any way, add a nofollow. If there is not, there is no reason to add one. Have a great day!

  • Hi Paul, While there is no guarantee that a branded search (like the one you've described) will bring up a G+ link in the SERPs, some businesses to achieve them. It may be a trust thing. You might try following these steps in this Google tutorial if you haven't already done so: https://support.google.com/plus/answer/1713826?hl=en&ref_topic=3052532 You'll notice that if you add a geo term to your query, then you do get both the Google+ link and the review link in your results: https://www.google.com.au/#q=doors+direct+brisbane So, I wouldn't be concerned that Google isn't aware of your business and its connection to your Google+ Local page. It may simply be a case of building greater authority. Or, a case of time. I want to share a link to this short but really awesome little post at Local U about why some results show G+ links and some don't. Be sure to read both the post and the comment by Linda Buquet. I think you'll find it quite interesting: http://localu.org/blog/google-local-search-results-show-g-links-others/ Hope this helps! Postscript: I wanted to return to this thread with another thought, the insight of which I owe to Darren Shaw of Whitespark. I have seen questions like yours come up before regarding the absence of a G+ link for a branded result and I've never had any hunches about this. Here's an interesting new hunch: Something to consider is the fact that there is a difference between your company's name and the name of the other company you used in your example. "Doors Direct" could, just possibly, be hitting Google as a slightly ambiguous query. You'll notice that in your example search, Google is bringing up more than one business, possibly because Google doesn't feel sure about the user's intent. Once you add a geo term to the search, Google suddenly gets it that someone is searching for your company in Brisbane, and that's when you're getting the Google+ link in the results. By contrast, there is no ambiguity factor related to the brand Synchromedia Group. Could be that Google sees this query and has no doubt as to what the user wants. So, this may be playing a part in your lack of a Google+ link for your branded, non-geo search. Something to consider.

  • Google prioritizes results that they consider more valuable. Imagine someone looking for a private equity firm database, they WON'T type private equity firms, as those who enter that are either looking for the meaning of "private equity firms" or news about "private equity firms". Google might have ranked you on top for some time, but after the release of hummingbird, everything changed, now Google tries to "understand" what you are thinking, what you are looking for and present the best possible results, not only based on the query itself, but also taking into account search history, habits, etc. You should also consider that your Website, compared to the others shown for that specific query, has a very low domain and page authority. Plus it lacks of any kind of social signals.
