Why Custom Post Types Don't Get Ranked Well
There is nothing about custom post types that is inherently different from posts. The biggest issue is making sure you properly set up the site structure so that they are interlinked well with the rest of the site. Depending on your SEO plugin, make sure the right URLs are in your sitemap as well. Other than that, you could be having issues with newer content taking longer to rank, but it's not an issue of custom posts vs. posts.

Analytics reauthorisation
Hey Richard, Thanks for writing in. I just took a look at all of your campaigns and I do see that one campaign has never been connected to GA, but the other four are connected correctly and showing traffic data with no issue. I also don't see any authorization warning on the account. Can you please take another look and, if you are still seeing the issue, email help@moz.com with the name of the campaign having the issue and a screenshot of the error you are seeing so we can investigate further? Indexing a catalogue
Sometimes catalog businesses have customers who feel more comfortable with an online version of their printed catalog than an eCommerce site. In such cases it can be a good user experience to have those available online. However, I would not allow them to be indexable. I'm assuming the products are all available on product pages in the eCommerce site, which is where I would focus my efforts. The online version of the printed catalog in PDF (Other formats, such as flash or AJAX work well too) should just be a feature for users, not necessarily for search.

Language for URLs on new international websites
Having the keyword terms in urls in the native language is certainly a better user experience for both searchers and your website visitors. As part of Google's algorithm, keywords in the url do have some influence - this item even appears in the Moz Analytics On-Page Grader tool showing Keyword Usage in URL as Moderately Important. If the IT team can only provide urls in English for now, then it's probably what you'll need to do until you can move to native language words in your urls. From a search engine perspective, as long as your site is setup correctly for international/multilingual, you should be fine. Google has a very helpful post here. Then when your team can do urls in native language, you can appropriately redirect the English language-specific pages to the new urls.

Q&A Forum Duplicate Pages Issue
I can only imagine what a task sorting a good 301 structure would be. I am with Dr. Pete here and go for the canonical solution and then try to figure out a way to avoid this for future questions. Just remember that rel=canonical is only a suggestion to Google, and although they take notice most of the time, they can still ignore it. -Andy

How are you taking you e-commerce site forward in 2014
Hello M, It all depends on the site. I find most eCommerce sites need substantial copy-editing or writing of unique, useful product descriptions and category page content. That is probably where I would spend my time with regard to on-page. Of course you can't ignore major technical issues either. In terms of building links, asking influencers and brand evangelists to do product reviews has always been good PR, long before Google. Just don't ask for a link (though you will probably get one) and don't request that it be made "followable" if it's not. Just be happy for the traffic and exposure. There are lots of other link building tactics and content marketing strategies that work for eCommerce sites, but it all depends on the site so it's tough to really say what's best for your client in 2014. Nine times out of ten what eCommerce sites need the most of is better, more unique, more useful product page copy. Good luck!

Junk backlinks
Anchor keywords are never natural. The only reason you link to the Adobe Reader page is because you would like people to help read their PDFs. That's why it's one of the most linked to pages. It would be weird if everybody would start linking to their Photoshop page as you could also read PDFs with Photoshop and it costs hundreds of dollars.

Optimize Pages for Keywords Prior to Building Links?
If the links are toxic, your firm is correct in that it's important to start the removal process. That said, I don't see any reason not to start optimizing pages for your terms. These aren't dependent tasks in any way. If the links were built by you and are toxic and your pages are not currently well optimized, you should definitely be working on both of those things. If it's time that's the issue, think about what you can do on your own. There's no need to have a paid firm gathering contact info from the linking sites when you could easily be doing that yourself. Make sure you're communicating with one another so that they're helping with things you need help with

Penny Clicks in Adwords?
Arbitrageurs killed the penny Adwords clicks about ten years ago. Today, I think that you will be lucky to find any clicks that go for less than ten cents each. Today you can find a SERP with huge traffic and no ads. You will think "I can get cheap clicks there". They do not exist. Google will run your ads for a few thousand impressions and then force you to bid an amazing price.
