  • Firstly you would never be penalized for using rel=canonical. If its the same content yes I recommend using the tag pointing towards the one you want indexed.  It seems like a messy layout though have you looked into making it neat and maybe a bit more friendly for users, could you not have a lot of that information on one page ? In short - Yes use canonical to avoid duplicate issues.

  • In our last Ranking Factors Correlation study, Domain Authority had a 0.29 correlation, which is one of the stronger correlations we measure. The strongest metric, Page Authority, showed a .39 correlation. The idea of Domain Authority is that comparing 2 websites... all other things being equal... one is more likely to rank than the other. A significant portion of the weighting factors in Domain Authority is links. As Google shifts the significance of links, this changes. But as you've observed, in the real world things are rarely equal. Moz is also working on spam scoring to help us better discount links that Google may likely be ignoring. Interestingly, with all the talks about links and Google, what's surprising is how important links still are. Metrics like DA and PA haven't changed that much in their ability to gauge ranking potential. Perhaps someday we'll need new signals. For now they are still reliably useful.

  • Thanks Matthew, while I am aware of duplicate content on this site, I wasn't aware it it specific to some of the pages that aren't being indexed.  I will do more research on this!

  • The question was about if Link Detox Boost works, not about using Link Detox. I do think Link Detox is a great program.  Just Boost isn't.

  • It happens A lot of links are hard to remove. If you're sure you have a penalty from links, I'd build a list of those links you've tried to remove, submit a disavow file to Google, and explain what happened in a reconsideration request. In that request include where the links came from, what you've done, and how you'll continue to clean things up and play by the rules in the future.

  • Oh, immense thanks, EGOL! The WordPress plug-in is a godsend, as we have tons of very high-quality, authoritative landing pages, and it will make for an efficient means of linking to them. Also, re: persistent navigation. I've been meaning to put a resources area in the menu bar with links to these landing pages -- which will also work well as info/destination pages as well. I guess I've always figured it just seemed too good to be true that having those links in the nab could really have a positive outcome. But we just recently got upgraded to PR5, so I guess we'll get to see what all that juice can do us. Thanks again!

  • All of the sites you mentioned seem to do this primarily through user generated content (ie reviews). This path makes sense as it is "unique and providing value." It looks like reviews may just be the table stakes to play this game at scale. I do like how thumbtack created some localized content here http://www.thumbtack.com/tx/houston/#/2014/1\. That looks like something I could use for inspiration.

  • The Google on/off tag is only good for their search appliance, which you use to run internal searches on your own site, and doesn't affect Google's main index.

  • It really depend on what those 'no follow' links are. Generally they cannot hurt you, but if they are done in a manipulative way eg mass blog comments, and furthermore if they are on bad sites  -  then they can hurt you - see Matt Cutts video with more info on this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSEqypgIJME watch?v=QSEqypgIJME

  • Structured data - Schema is Good for SEO ! So ... Check if structured data aka schema, microdata is being used on any given web page with webmaster tools <a>www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets</a> If you are trying to improve the page you can also use the Structured Data Markup Helper - html conversion tool to have Google auto-add schema to the page after you choose the relevant category: <a>https://www.google.com/webmasters/markup-helper/</a> This is of course just one more method to use in addition to others mentioned.

  • Unfortunately, I am in the exact same boat as the other guys. I have never used AdStage Beta however considering that I have used word stream, and it has been an excellent PPC software & advising a company I would trust them considering that they yielded a very high ROI when I use them. If I had any information at all about AdStage Beta I would share that with you. If I were going to create a pay per click campaign for myself or for a client I would use words stream. I hope this helps a little bit, Thomas

  • The community is convinced they can sell anyone on the community if they talk to them. Sorry for the confusion. What I meant by that statement was that the community believes that if they can talk to someone on the phone, they can get them to come to the community for a visit. Luckily for my client, their facility is top notch and they have a very solid reputation. They are booked on some floors but have openings for people with more serious issues and they are always actively looking for new residents. In this particular industry, you are constantly "losing" customers. I must say that just because the facility is great does not mean potential customer visits shouldn't be met by someone trying to extol the virtues of the facility. I think the word "salesperson" is throwing us all off here. It is a very soft sell on their part because the community understands that location, smell, cleanliness and quality of food are huge. And they are not worried about that. All they want to do is talk to someone on the phone and schedule a visit, the rest will take care of itself.

  • you need to tell people where you can take them in the section above the fold in your website. I would have a very large text that is clickable stating We give guided tours to  then allow people to click on their destination of choice. New Zealand, South America Himalayas If you want to get clients that are in the United States for instance, and you use a New Zealand TLD you will be unable to geo-target in Google Webmaster tools therefore it will rank better in New Zealand than the states. Moosa is right on the money asking about what you did prior to changing your domain. Then you converted everything to one site did you use a tool similar to screaming frog  let you 301 redirect all the pages perfectly to their new domain? http://activeadventures.com/ Did you tell Google you are moving domains in all 3 instances? Try using screaming frog with this guide http://www.seerinteractive.com/blog/screaming-frog-guide this post as well should be of help to you. http://moz.com/community/q/how-to-keep-old-url-juice-during-site-switch & http://moz.com/blog/achieving-an-seo-friendly-domain-migration-the-infographic I hope this is of some help, sincerely, Thomas PS if the photograph is too small use this link http://i.imgur.com/LfTUEjO.gif LfTUEjO.gif

  • The plug-in is something I use on quite a few clients sites. I really like it because of its ease of use and the way it looks. However you can do the same thing with schema but for the money it is a great buy you can do everything that is needed to provide your business hours, address, phone number and it codes it perfectly allowing you to work on other things. I agree with Miriam, you must have a brick-and-mortar address and do face-to-face business in order to have a Google local listing. Nice work finding that information. In addition you may want to look at getlocal.org now owned by Moz has a lot of local knowledge. For citations check out  Whitespark.ca you can get a discount from Moz.com/perks hope this helps, Thomas
