  • Hello Rob, Rich snippets are still in an early fase so i understand your pain about not being able to show your logo in the SERP's. The publisher markup is an option as Matt Antonino mentioned but this only shows up for brand queries so it might not be what you're looking for. I do see that you have a YouTube video placed prominently on the homepage. Perhaps you could use a video sitemap to get a video rich snippet? The process for this is described here: Video sitemap for vimeo and youtube Other than that it's not possible as far as i know to get a good rich snippet for a business if you do not have a specific product or recipe to show.

  • Hi Kurt, Multiple canonicals won't work. I believe our own Dr. Pete did some testing on this a couple years ago, and the results didn't pan out. It there isn't original content on the page, you have a couple of options. First of all you could de-index the page by adding a meta NOINDEX tag. A second option would be use the cross-domain canoncical to the most prominent choice (page A or page B) typically whatever is closer to the top of the page. If you have the opportunity to add unique content to the page, this might solve your problem. A couple hundred words could make the content unique and the page might have a chance of ranking on it's own and you wouldn't need to worry about canonicalization. Hope this helps! Best of luck with your SEO.

  • I would suggest not worrying about them. You can block and report them, but that probably won't do much. I took a quick look at the accounts, and I didn't see them copy anything recently. I would suggest focusing on metrics that are more impactful than followers, such as relative engagement rates. You have 1 million followers, but on you're only getting a few replies and 20-40 retweets, which means for every 1,000 followers your amplification rate is only 0.04. You can read more about this here.

  • Hi Federico, I have a follow-up question that maybe you can help with.  What would be the best way to prevent these product pages from showing up in search results?  One of their products that's only available in Canada is showing up as a top page for US users. Thanks!

  • Not to be a smart ass or anything, but it sounds like you answered your own question JP. There is no right or wrong answer to "are meta descriptions really necessary". Often times it is best to let Google self-generate the meta description so it matches the intent of the user query. Especially when, as it sounds like in your case, you're talking about an ecommerce site with maybe (?) a lot of product pages and long-tail keyword queries your pages could be eligible to rank for. In my mind, the real question is whether you'd be better off spending your time creating great content, or trying to craft unique meta description tags for product pages that are already "generating a better CTR than if I were to plug something in there myself." It's a judgment call.

  • Hi Ryan, I'm pretty sure that SEM Rush does provide historical data, you just need to purchase the GURU or higher plan in order to gain access to this. You're right about Compete - and it is only limited to the US.

  • When on the crawl diagnostic page there is the column that says the number of duplicate URLs. If you hover over the little i symbol then the popup will show the other URLs. Also, if you download the CSV of the report there is a column called Duplicate Page Content which lists the URLs. Edit: Unless I completely misinterpreted what you were asking and you want to know how to find out the exact words or meta that is the same across them all. In which case, Moz usually only picks up duplication of Title Tags, Meta Description and the actually page content. So if they're flagged as duplicates its just a matter of reading the pages or giving them a quick glance to see how similar they are.

  • Good point. If you don't want the filter pages crawled at all, it would be better to just block them via robots.txt. My preferred approach is to use query parameters for filters, and canonicaling the filtered pages back to the original, unfiltered page. Another approach is to use AJAX to dynamically filter the page. This takes more programming overhead, but won't result in tons of extra pages being crawled and potentially indexed.

  • Thanks Vadim for your advise!. I have implemented your recommendation. BTW it is really easy to delete a G+ profile. The only bad news is that you have to re-upload your Youtube videos to the new account.

  • It's not necessarily an SEO problem (as long as you don't redirect all 404s to your homepage at least. I've seen that be an issue in the past.) However, use it as an opportunity.  Make the 404 a sales page if you have that many.  It's a lander now for "the product you were searching for is out of stock - here are the search results on our site for similar products" etc.  You can turn it into something productive to have that many 404s. From WMT, mark them as fixed and then anytime one pops up, find out what is linking to the product and try to remove that link.  You don't want to be linking to 404s internally if you can help it (bad user experience = Google's nightmare) so having 1000s of 404s isn't bad but try to break any internal links to them.  (Xenu can help as well if you don't feel like waiting for WMT.)
