Solving 'duplicate content' for page 2 of X for 1 blog post
Hi Carson-Ward, That's a nice and clean solution. Thanks for that! I actually did something similar without realizing it by creating an actual canonical file to start with for my latest guide Google My Business which in Dutch is Google Mijn Bedrijf handleiding google-plus-marketing.nl/google-mijn-bedrijf-handleiding/ I have had the nr 1 position ever since it launched a week (or has it been 2 already? Dont know:) or so ago. I made it in to one large file not linking out to anything for the first week accept one strategic link to the google.com help file. This was mend as the canon indeed. Instead here I chose to optimize the category page for Google My Business and not a bulky paginated file or something like that. This category page now ranks 3 to 5th places since Google My Business is released so it's working I guess. The category page which I consider a basic keyword theme landing page -> google-plus-marketing.nl/category/google-mijn-bedrijf/ me really happy with traffic I get from it:) I think I prefer the patter approach for now above a nicely paginated multi page posts. I experimented with this one first last few months and although it looks better it does not rank better to start with google-plus-marketing.nl/google-plus-handleiding-inhoudsopgave/ although it's ranked 1-3 for months I think simple version is best?

How do Domain Authority and the Price of a Paid Listing Relate?
Hi Denis, The thing is: if a website offers inbound links that pass PageRank then by definition they do not comply with the Google guidelines. Google is quick to call all things not compliant spam and sometimes makes arbitrary choices as to what are considered bought links. During a conference I once asked an ex Googler who was a webspam specialist that I thought that an advertorial on big websites are de facto paid links if they pass PageRank? I never got a real answer but I guess it all depends on the standing a website has with Google. If a small blog asks a fee for an advertisement with an followed link then it's a slippery slope, large news sites are not a problem. All being true the link they offer is not an advertorial and is an paid link in a link directory and in the end has a high risk of being classified as such. But if you would need to put a price on it: the DA in combination with the anchor text of the link makes it more or less valuable. A DA of 30 is significantly more then 20 and will pass significantly more PageRank so us more valuable. How much more is up to the person who is in the market for buying I guess. Hope this helps. Gr Daniel

Infographic as white hat linkable asset -> How do I do this right?
"Do I need to include all of their references and would that be duplicate content." Do not include large sections of content from the source, have the sources quoted at the bottom of the page as links. I would imagine you are putting your own spin on some of the information contained on those sites? You can make each one be its own line, and have a few links related to each section. Here is an example: http://moz.com/blog/illustrated-seo-competitive-analysis-workflow If you look at the bottom, she links out in a very organized fashion, so a user can find the source link they are looking for easier. You can also link out as you mention certain sites, or subjects. For better distribution, use a few less costly press relesases to judge how well the article will be received. Once you see it gaining traction, or the attachment rate with users, then I would possibly look at doing a larger PR. For your infographic, show a lower resolution version on your webpage, both for fast loading times, and also to have the full image downloadable as a file. This will allow you an extra URL where the image is hosted, and you will be able to track users that come to read and view the graphic, and also those that want to download what you display. This should give you some extra insight if the infographic is truly successful, and people find it useful. You could also add this as a destination URL goal in analytics.

How is it possible to create unique content (never blogged or discussed before) content on common topics? Is it practically possible?
If you use your own style/company personality and address your individual market then you can boost engagement. You can also try vlogging (video blogging) or even podcasts (audio). Hope this helps

Page not ranking despite indicators showing should easily be mid-1st page?
"...slowly going downwards over the year" This sounds like possibly user metric related, which are important ranking factors no tool is able to give us. It's possible, users have showed preference to other pages ranking for that query over time. Metrics could be; click through rate from SERPs bouncing back to SERPs ("pogo-sticking") time on page repeat visits to the page direct visits the page completed actions on that page ...etc Essentially, users might be telling Google they don't like the page based upon their behavior. Some suggestions; Watch Rand's video about how to improve Pogo Sticking Check out these articles on improving CTR in the SERPs (most the top ranked resources there are good) Set up goal tracking to get a conversion rate Try Justin Cutroni's scroll tracking to see how users are interacting with the content Try a heatmap program like http://www.crazyegg.com/ Without being able to see your page, it's tough to give custom recommendations, but I would also recommend making sure you have the best design of any site in your niche for your audience.

Site architecture: Deep drop menus & flat hidden menu?
Hi BBuck, I think I understand what you're saying, and there are 2 separate issues that I see you've brought up First, while there's nothing necessarily wrong with distributing navigation the way you've described, I find from a UX (user experience) standpoint that this is best avoided. Aside from that, I'm unaware of any reason it would be a bad practice. As for the URL issue you mention in the second paragraph, that can be taken care of with 301 redirects / rewrites. Basically, take this example: I have a page that's www.example.com/familiar/general/specific, but I don't want such a long URL. Using 301 redirects and rewrites, I would have the page stay the same, but the end of the URL could be whatever I want, like www.example.com/specific. If you're unfamiliar with how that works, I suggest either hiring a developer to do it (which would take a few seconds per page), or finding a quick tutorial if you have access to your website's back-end. I hope that helps you!

Negative SEO campaign just started against my site. What do I do?
Andy - I am actually using cognitiveseo which incorporates all the links from places like moz, majestic and ahrefs. You can also import your webmaster tool links as well with a few clicks. It then has a link browser, highlights unnatural links (which you can modify), and will create a disavow file for you. After the initial panic, when I wrote my first post here, I know feel quite comfortable with how I am dealing with it. I think the stats update every couple of days, so its not instant like going to places like ahrefs and majestic direct, but as it collates all the data from all sites I can deal with that limitation.

Canonical and Rel=next/prev Implementation
Looks good to me as well, just as a tip. Don't forget to submit the parameters you're using in Google Webmaster Tools. In the menu item: URL Parameters are you able to configure if content changes with a certain parameter. It helps Google to understand your URL structure better.
