Thank you everyone for your responses! The link you sent of the cached pages LynnP was also helpful. As soon as my co-worker who administers the server gets in I'm going to mention to him that we check the subfolders for anything fishy. I know for a fact he looked for subfolders that were suspicious but I'm not sure he may have thought to check the existing folders for sneaky things. Most passwords have been changed... but I will double check. Again, thanks everyone for your help, very useful!

Interesting.  I'd never heard that before. We've never had GA or GWT on these mirror sites before, so it's hard to say what Google is doing these days. But the goal is definitely to make them and their contents invisible to SEs.   We'll get GWT on there and start removing URLs. Thanks!

Hi Ed, Something similar just happened to a website I am managing. Did you ever figure out what happened to your website? I do not have a manual action email in my GWT inbox. I got hit September 13th and today is the 22rd and still no email. I am in Argentina land www.google.com.ar and all updates come later than in the USA. I am also thinking it is a server issue. Got this message from GWT when trying to verify the Google Analytics code. The connection to your server timed out. Thanks

How long ago did you make the changes, it sometimes takes a little time for the meta data to be recrawled, resubmitted and indexed, I often don't see a change for a few days. I am going to presume if the meta was automated you are using a CMS of some sorts. Might be an idea to check your installation and settings to make sure you have cleared and reset them, upgraded them and also possibly reset your cache. Google sometimes reallocates meta description to something that is more appropriate, but I have not seen it in titles. I would imagine someone will probably have a better answer. But you can at least tick these of the list on the way to your solution.

Hi, I thought as much! Thanks for that, we are actually redesigning these Alerts at the moment and each page will be specific with different content. It sounds like there is going to be nothing i can do about the historical content without working my way through it!

Mine gets buggy from time to time as well. When all else fails I usually swing on over to OSE and manually run a site to get the stats. But yes, uninstall, reinstall, clear cache. That should work but if not, sometimes I've even had to disable other addons I have enabled to get it to work. But as I stated, just jump over to OSE and manually run it and u should be happily on your way!

By exploring your site with Moz, do you mean you are trying to set up a campaign in Moz Analytics? Using Open Site Explorer? Or something else? Also, what is the exact error message you received? Highly unlikely to get you penalized. Google understands the nature of ecommerce sites and that products go out of stock regularly, hence the need for proper merchandising.

Good question - I still have the same question. I understand the 'by choice', but find that unconvincing so far. Did you come to a solution?

Definitely possible. It used to be much easier. You can rank for 5 pages, all your stuff LOL. good old days Anyway, try to look at the social pages/forums, etc already ranking there where you can put your content. Those are great signals that tell you that you can create content on those and rank those pages (link to them to make the % higher) If high trust domains like what you mentioned aren't ranking there, you need to test it. And if you said that the keywords are easy enough, then your chances for those to show up is really good.

And do you think that Google always knows who the original site is? Do they always check history? On top of more aged content, we are the only one with tens of thousands of FB Likes (wish they were G+, but our users do not use that), and thousands of comments. All real.

In the light of this article (http://searchengineland.com/google-can-now-execute-ajax-javascript-for-indexing-99518), I can say that Google can crawl the content in Javascript (few of it, if not all). Hope this helps!!

Thanks, was able to get it done on most of them but a few I don't think I have the ability to add the no index with how my CMS is setup so will be working on trying to include unique content to those pages. Thanks for all the great advice.
