  • If Google was zapping people for matching title and h1 then my site would be toasted. If Google was zapping people for matching title and h1 then huge numbers of people would be busting into this forum crying that they got whacked. I think that the idea of Google punishing people for matching title and h1 is total rubbish.  Does anyone know and have a link to a serious person's website who is publishing this stuff?

  • Dull and unnecessary While outreach is important, something that often gets overlooked is linkable assets - why is someone going to link to your site? I talk a little bit about linkable assets on my own site here, but it is essentially creating content or 'something' that is going to entice others to link to you. People are more precious of their sites than ever before and don't give links away easily, so it's important to give them that reason. Get those creative juices flowing and make some noise. -Andy

  • Thanks everyone. All great advice and exactly what I'm doing and have planned. So the advice I hear here is, be patient, and tell them they need to be too! I'm curious what you all think about this page: http://www.beverlys.com/fabric.html The word fabric is there 71 times. I know "density" isn't supposed to matter, but over optimization does. Could that be construed as such even though there is a valid reason for those to be there? Their top 3 competitors' fabric pages are different:  http://www.joann.com/fabric/ 48 times https://www.fabric.com/ 29 times http://www.hancockfabrics.com/ 30 times

  • I'd add a couple questions to what's already been said. Will I be able to see the campaign events through my own Google Analytics account? If so, will you be setting up campaign goals with GA for me or is that something I have to track myself? What types of recommendations will you be making to improve the campaign? One thing to add, I'd suggest that you set up the Google Tag Manager account and provide access to the agency. That way, you'll be able to have one Google code that addresses Google Analytics and GTM on your site. You'll also retain the historic information from the account if the relationship with the agency ends.

  • As far as my information goes, there is no tool that can tell you which links are coming from within the content, navigation, side bar or footers. ...But I would love to see if anyone new of a tool that does closer to what you are looking for!

  • Shawn, Good question, although to me it seems like there are actually two questions in there.  Social signals and backlinks are not quite the same things.  Social signals arise when a link to your content is tweeted, pinned or shared on Facebook.  These links are all (or nearly all) rel=nofollow, so they don't pass any authority to your site.  Some folks think that social signals will affect your rankings, but earlier this year Matt Cutts made it quite clear that they don't.  The value of social is then as a new source of traffic -  and it can be especially valuable in terms of lead generation and list-building.  Now, a post that does well on social media might attract some traditional backlinks, but it isn't the social sharing itself that will improve rankings. If you can find the right vibe on Tumblr (and you do, or you will be ignored), the community there is very active.  Just like every other social site, the links are nofollow.  You can hack this by hard coding a link to your site into your Tumblr's template.  I'm not sure how well it works.  I did this as an experiment, and the links don't show up in Moz or Webmaster Tools. So... after all that.... If the you want to reach the people using Tumblr, go ahead and Tumbl away.  Don't do it for "SEO" though. Hope that helps. Michael
