  • There is a bit more complexity in using a cname, but a lot of big systems should be able to handle it as a standard thing, unless there is an inherit security risk. I use them both with freshdesk and maxcdn. Like take this http://cdn.dh42.com/certified.png   and this http://dh42.com/certified.png The one with the cdn prefix is actually loaded from maxcdn, but it just looks like it came from my sub domain. Same with my freshdesk account, it is at help.dh42.com, but it actually is on their server. I would prefer a cname to a 301, but sometimes you don't have a choice. Do you currently have anything at the site you are wanting to redirect to NJoyn? Or are your just looking to make it easier when you need to tell people where to go to?

  • I use Sitecore and it doesn't change the URL if the title is changed. In my case, you first enter the name of the item, which becomes the URL, and then you go on to add the title and content and so forth. (But this may have been an add-on--I wasn't here when it was set up.) If yours changes the URL if you change the title, I'd definitely get that fixed. You don't want a nice outside link to get broken because someone decides to tweak a title and changes the URL! In Sitecore you can easily add aliases however, in case your URL gets changed and you want the old one to still be available (just be sure to add the appropriate canonical--that is a custom field you'd have to have added, or at least it was in my case). There is also a "rename" option you can use to change the URL to whatever you want, again just be sure there weren't any good links to the old URL or if there were, use alias and canonical as above. And as others have said, the title and URL do not need to match exactly, but they should be closely related.

  • Hi guys thanks for your responses. You've confirmed what I suspected, especially the implications concerning ccTLD's. There are none. To be honest, it's more about being tidy and organised, and managing a domain's web presence in a systematic way, and not getting bogged down in other digital areas. If one gets their website techincally organised in a way that complies with the search guidelines, i.e redirects put where they should be, canonical urls correct, broekn links repaired, duplicate urls and pages removed and/or redirected, then I foresee fewer problems for SME's on the digital journey. Cheers

  • Without know what kind of site you have it is hard to gauge. Ecommerce Keyword ranking swing wildy as these are often used in conjuction with Adwords and bidding. So whilst you might have a great keyword, if this is a seasonal or on trend product then the competition changes dramatically. If you have a blog or a company site, not in ecommerce, check what is happening in the industry and see if your keyword has gone on trend.  For example: Blue LED.  a few days ago this was not the hotest topic around, but since the Noble Prize has just been awarded, this phrase will be more volatile, but will drop back once the excitement drops. So in essence for the above, if you keyword was rankng well, it might be that you where in a niche area and ranked well even with other SEO issues present.  Once competition hots up, others might well outrank you. If you can give us some more info about your site, that would be a great starting point Bruce

  • Hi Crazydiamond! In order to track weekly reports we recommend setting up custom reports to create and store a PDF for the data you wish to track together or separately which can be downloaded at anytime. We don't have the capacity to maintain historical data in the UI outside of the graphs. Custom reports are the way to go! Here is more information on how to setup reports: moz.com/help/guides/custom-reports Hope this helps!

  • Recommend reading this article about del.ic.ious getting blacklisted by Google. This is very recent. So, consider this news when using bit.ly internal links in blog posts. Even though the links are going to result pages, this could be problematic for an as yet undetermined period of time (basically bit.ly has two issues to deal with - migration away from their .us domain plus vulnerabilities that make it possible for trojans and scripting elements to be used). Of course, if you're not receiving alerts then the issue is reframed. http://www.wordfence.com/blog/2014/10/a-malicious-del-icio-us/ As stated, "Delicious has changed hands several times over the years and recently was re-sold earlier this year to Science Inc. They also rebranded several years ago to delicious.com which is not blacklisted, but there are likely a large number of legacy .us links out there. [Edit: Thanks Kelson]"

  • Hi, If this proxy website is a clone of the original website and if its not blocked thoroughly from being accessed and found by the search engines, we have a huge problem and this proxy website should be taken down ASAP as this might create issues because of duplicate content especially if the original website is fairly new and the proxy website has some strong SEO factors like domain age, domain authority or page authority etc. Please do write back in case you would like to give some more details about the issue or have queries in this regard. Best regards, Devanur Rafi

  • I agree with Egol here, build content that your readers want to read. If they want to read it, they'll be more likely to share it (either by a link or via social). I've been looking at the demographics reports in analytics to find out what my website visitors appear to be interested in. I can then use this to create content tailored to my audience. However, I don't do this for all content, because it'll start to become self-propelling: the more my content matches my audience demographic, the smaller the demographic becomes... If that makes sense? But, I think this is a good start... Andy also has some great points here (which I see you've marked as 'good answer' so you're clearly taking on board his comments) - infographics can be a great way of sharing knowledge in an easy to digest kind of way. However, be careful about how you create them: make them awesome! Also, you must reference any websites/books etc you get the facts from. If any of these have social media accounts, make sure you share to them, because they are more likely to reshare it for you because it mentions them! Always be careful of copyright infringements though - don't copy word-for-word, even in an infographic or you'll annoy whoever originally wrote that content! (or worse, have a DMCA filed against you - not cool) Also, never just take images from Google image search - buy your images or make sure they are available on a free license (and check it is still free for commercial use though) - so many people fall foul of this. I know it's easy just to take an image from Google image search, but in most cases someone owns that image and the creator of it should get compensation for the use of the image - especially if it's being used for commercial use. With regard to making your products rank - this can be tricky as the main content is usually available in the form of a blog or articles section (as you have indicated is the case here), not on the product description page. Make sure you link through to relevant products from your blog pages - e.g. blog post talking about children's bedroom furniture could highlight particular products, with links straight to the product(s). If the product becomes unavailable, then the blog post can still work if you make sure you either update the link to a similar product or if you create redirects (my personal preference is the slightly harder way of updating the link rather than redirects but if you have a huge inventory of products that method could become unmanageable very fast). I found this white board Friday video really useful, you may too: http://moz.com/blog/my-customers-wont-amplify-my-content-whiteboard-friday Best of luck, Amelia
