Do old links from my own unrelated subject websites improve or hinder my rankings?
Thank you for your quick reply, I was watching the whiteboard Friday about links and I know these websites are not spam links in the sense that they been placed on rubbish websites just for the sake of linking, but all the websites are controlled by me and I'm sure Google realises the common connection and I just didn't want the opposite of some kind of penalty because the subjects are completely different of each website and I made the links etc. I appreciate your comments and I will place some text pointing out the connection from each website back to my holiday letting website

What am I doing wrong?
Thanks a lot Chris ! There are lots of great learnings in your reply. First, I will focus on the long tail keywords so I can understand if I am doing things right. And learn. Then, I might move to more competition but that's for later. And thanks for the feedback on our blog. I will think again how I might provide more useful content to our users.

Website SEO Product Pages - Condense Product Pages
Another quick question about your comment on the link profile quality. There are currently no messages or warnings about the link profile quality in WMT. Would you suggest still reviewing these backlinks and trying to get them off the link profile? Thanks!

Can you have same product name and description on a local and national site at the same time without getting dinged by google?
I would use the hreflang tag, I implemented this on a few sites that have multiple local based versions and it works wonders and you do not have to worry about cross domain duplicate content in any way. I have a site in US dollars and one in UK pounds all the content is identical and both have been checked by John Mueller at Google and he has confirmed this is a perfect use for that scenario. https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en If however they are all in the same country, then I would use the rel canonical https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139066?hl=en

Wrong Website Showing Up On Knowledge Graph - Car Dealer SEO Question
The rel=canonical tag would be a great way to start off. This should send all the right signals to Google about which site to show. I'd make the change and then wait a few weeks to see if this happens. Then go from there.

Reasons Why Our Website Pages Randomly Loads Without Content
Thanks Gazzerman - This helps as well. Yes, I agree the site definitely needs SEO attention. It was not until recently that a more experience team was brought on to 'fix the site'.

Effecting Domain Authority
Hi Joseph! It sounds like you have been busy and I'm sure you are ready to see the fruits of your labor! One thing that may be helpful to realize is how DA and PA work. There is quite a bit of delay due to crawl frequency and delays associated with the crawl and these metrics are delayed by approximately four weeks or so. This is the same reason that a recent article on HuffPo or TechCrunch will show a PA of zero. This could easily be what is going on here. I use a combination of more real-time metrics (i.e. AHREFS and Majestic) in addition to moz metrics. That being said, to increase DA/PA you have to build high-quality links into the site. My opinion is the best way to do this is to make ridiculously good assets and content and then promote them to influencers in the nice. Good luck with the site!

How should a ALT TAG Be?
That's not ideal. If you're trying to do this programmatically in a CMS, perhaps there's a way to do something like: alt="Photo {Some Property}" alt="{Some Property}" alt="Photo" Using "Null" is worse than leaving it blank, I think.

Why a site just dropped out of ranks
The site is several years old. I do not think the keywords are highly relevant to the discussion. It could be any word in the world and I would want a general idea of why it was happening

PDF Cached by Google, but not showing as link
I know it might sound subjective, but we can’t assume that a nofollow link doesn’t provide value. Given that Google can choose to crawl and credit the link if they so choose. I wouldn’t say it does you any harm as the link was placed for a user. If someone found it worthwhile to place the link then maybe there are other opportunities to meet their need for other resources.

Screaming Frog is the best crawler out there imo. Have you talked to your hosting provider? They may be refusing the connection on their end.

Quickest way to build links?
In my opinion there are no quick or easy ways to build links after Google's Penguin update. A better question would be: "How to build the highest quality links?". or - "How to earn links from high quality sources?" Also see: http://moz.com/blog/google-algorithm-cheat-sheet-panda-penguin-hummingbird http://www.hiswebmarketing.com/penguin-not-just-about-bad-links/ http://themoralconcept.net/pandalist.html (mainly about Panda, but also a few very interesting link related insights)

Question about moving content from one site to another without a 301
The SEO was right with the 301 with the knowledge that 301 will not pass 100% rank authority as the original URL. The 301 will drop between 1 and 10%. Sounds a bit complicated the next bit so to save this complication. Have the info on both sites, but put Canonical tags on the pages with the duplicate data. This is the preference from Googles perspective. this tells google that this is duplicate content. If you intend remove the data from these original locations then rel canonical etc will not be needed. Google does not want duplicate data, therefore you should for good practice use the canonical or delete the other data from sites Hope that is of use Bruce
