MozBar Login Change Update + Firefox Temporarily Disabled
-
Hello!
I wanted to give you all a heads up about some changes we will be making to the MozBar very soon.
We will be making an update to the MozBar that will require you to log in with either a free Community account or with your Moz subscription to access link metrics. Don’t worry! We will never charge you for link metrics in the MozBar.
Why are we making this change?
The MozBar has historically made use of a free endpoint in our Mozscape API. Unfortunately, over time, we have been experiencing increasing levels of abuse on this endpoint. For a long time, we were able to manage this mis-use but recently we have reached a tipping point whereby this malicious traffic is starting to degrade other legitimate API traffic and cause performance issues within our products.By asking you to log in to the MozBar with either a free Community account or a Moz subscription, we can ensure only authenticated users are able to use the MozBar. Also, if you don’t need link metrics, you can still use the MozBar. Logged out users will still be able to access on-page information.
A note to Firefox users
With this change, we will temporarily disable the Firefox version of the MozBar. You may have noticed that the Firefox and Chrome versions of the MozBar are not the same. This is due to Mozilla’s review process, and us being unable to get new versions approved despite multiple attempts.Good news on the horizon! Firefox will start accepting Chrome-based extensions with the release of Firefox v48, which means soon there will be one version of the MozBar. When v48 is released, we will re-enable the MozBar in Firefox. In the meantime you can use the free Google Chrome version.
Thank you for your understanding while we make these changes in the MozBar! Please feel free to let us know what you think, or ask questions, in the comments below.
Thanks!

Is there a technical problem with OpenSiteExplorer ? (https://moz.com/researchtools/ose)
Since this morning I'v got many errors like this "There was an error getting your data". Try to refresh but doesn't look to work like before...
-
Hi Nicholas,
We're currently having some errors in OSE that are due to a slow down in processing as we're preparing to release a new index. You can see the status on the Health Page. Sorry about the troubles!
-
Should be all fixed now. Sorry about that - we're launching a new index, and there seems to be some hardware issues. We're trying to reverse engineer the source of the problem. On the plus side, a new index should be out soon.
-
Its not fixed yet . I couldn't see the metrics stats,
-
As a Firefox user I'm looking forward to the update. Understandable why you've done what you've done though.
-
Just to add to Nicholas' question above about Site Explorer, I know some of the links to my website that have been around for over 12 months (ie from my personal blog) and show up in Google Webmaster tools are not flowing through to Moz
Any ideas?
-
Hi Sandi - Moz won't know about all the links to your site. We don't crawl as fast or comprehensively as Google, so Open Site Explorer will always be showing a sample set rather than a complete picture of every link.
-
Thanks Rand! That makes sense, I was under impression they will all show up eventually but it makes sense that they arent as comprehensive!
-
Ah, this makes so much more sense now! I hadn't read this announcement and have been wondering why Firefox Mozbar was acting all screwy the past few weeks. Finally decided to just try re-installing it this morning, but after I uninstalled I couldn't find it in Firefox's Extensions library!
Looking forward to being able to use it in Firefox again. Unfortunate though that it'll be the current Chrome flavour one. Always seemed to work a lot faster in Firefox than in Chrome, so I tried to push all my Mozbar usage to my "Firefox monitor" rather than my Chrome one when working.
-
The new Chrome browser add-on is a huge improvement.
-
Thanks for the heads up. Please let me know when Firefox is working again.
Best... Mike

Thanks for sharing this.
I think Moz bar is the best item to use for SEO workers.
It present's to you a lot of services in one package, you can find Keyword difficulty, keyword explorer and other vary items.

Are you planning on keeping the export function for the Firefox version? Will you add the export function to the Chrome version?
-
still not working in Firefox.......
-
Hi Abhishek - The Firefox version is temporarily disabled until v48 is released this Fall. In the meantime, MozBar is available in the Google Chrome store!
-
I am not able to see any Link Metrics - even though I'm logged into the Moz website.
Is there a current issue?
Background:
1. Using Mozbar in Chrome
2. Click the blue "Log In" link which takes me to the Moz website and I log in (I have a Moz Pro subscription).
3. Then I go back to the tab for the website I'm reviewing - Link Metrics still displays nothing.
-
You may find you get a better response with help@moz.com. Did you try a refresh on that page after you've logged in? Sometimes with an error turning the Moz bar on and off again ("Have you tried turning it off and on again?") resolves many issues.
Hope some of those help!

Hi, now we already have Version V49. Still The MOZ Toolbar is not working. When do you expect it will be working again? Thanks Maarten

Hi Maarten!
Thanks for your question. Re-enabling MozBar in Firefox is on our roadmap, but we don't yet have an ETA.
