Hello! Sam from Moz's Help Team here! So -  after being found, newly discovered links have the ability to be populated into our index in about 3 days. However, there are a lot of factors which can affect our ability to find and index links to your site. It's important to note that we are always adding new data to our index, but it may take some time for us to discover backlinks to your site based on factors like crawlability of the referring pages, quality of the links and the referring pages, and more. If you are not seeing links that you know you have, you may want to make sure that they can be indexed. It is also a good idea to check to see if we've indexed the page on which that link is found. If we haven't indexed the referring page yet, you won't see your link in our index. You can also add links to Link Tracking Lists. Once you add a link to your tracking lists we will add that page to be crawled. As long as it is accessible to our crawler, you should see the link in our index as soon as we can index those pages. Lastly, I have a great guide here with some things to check around why we may not have found your links yet: https://moz.com/help/link-explorer/link-building/moz-isnt-finding-your-links If you'd like any further information, please feel free to pop us an email over at help@moz.com. We do also have a great guide to Domain Authority just here: https://moz.com/learn/seo/domain-authority

Hi, No, MOZ does not have any option to disavow links and you should not be worried about disavowing links in Moz. Instead, disavow them from the Google Search Console because Google is the search engine that ranks your site according to proper linking.

Hi, Great question, Link Explorer and the Links tab of Moz Pro Campaigns are both tied to our Link index, which is constantly updating. After being found, newly discovered links have the ability to be populated into our index in about 3 days. When discovered or lost links are found, we'll update our database to reflect those changes in your scores and link counts. We prioritize the links we crawl based on a machine learning algorithm to mimic Google's index. This does not mean that DA and PA will change with every data update, though; it will only change if we find new link data for a respective site. I'm sorry I can't tell you exactly when your DA will update it depends on when we find new equity passing backlinks to your site. You can read more about our new Link Explorer tool and our index here. You can also read more about how our Link index compares with our competitors here https://backlinko.com/best-backlink-checker Feel free to reach out to help@moz.com with any further questions

Hi snjaoieiw, To get a detailed answer from Moz staff on what DA is, you might consider searching the Q&A forum. In short, though, it is a Moz metric (not a Google or Bing metric) that takes into consideration the number (and quality) of backlinks your website has. That said, have you been working on building up high quality backlinks? -Zack

  • Hey There, So no, Moz doesn't do this yet as far as I know.  Might be a cool feature request. BUT I did a quick Google search and found this tool http://www.brightlocal.com/seo-tools/local-search-rank-checker/ Might be worth giving the free trial a go. Otherwise I haven't run across a tool that does this that I can endorse for sure! Might be a question better posed to someone on the Moz team, though as maybe I'm missing something here. Good Luck! • Thanks for the responses Guys! The reason I wanted to know more about removing links was because a website that I look after had stopped receiving GA stats. I looked at the inbound links and found a few that where completely unrelated to the site (one from Japan and not translatable). I did search for the Disavow tool from Google, but decided to try to contact the sites first to see if I can get the links removed that way. On closer inspection, and much worry, I discovered that the GA tracking had stopped! How could that happen? As far as I know I am the only one with access to FTP... Worrying, but fixed now and I have had an education about the Disavow tool and link removal along the way One more question: Are nofollow links harmful to a site if they are inbound?

  • Hi Carl, Are you referring to the message that appears on the dashboard? If so it will not go away until you close the message on the top right corner or once the full crawl is completed. It is a little confusing because it says you will have some results in a couple of hours and it is only there as a welcome message. Hope that helps!

  • Hey Moosa, Thanks for the question. We'd love to check this out for you. Can you do me a favor and email in to help[at]moz.com with a few examples of incorrect data so we can check it out? Remember the data in OSE does come from the Mozscape index so is not crawled as often as your campaigns would be. Thanks! I look forward to your email. Cheers, Joel.

  • I have a very similar situation. This time it's not a complete article it's just a few sentences describing the category. Because we sell one product that comes in many thickness, sizes and colors there is only a limited amount of information I can put on the category pages for thicknesses. For example there would be a landing page for one inch thickness and another 15 different landing pages for different inch thicknesses. What do you recommend?

  • Hi there - I had found the tool eventually, but it was deeply buried! Why has it been demoted? I just want to add that I too find this tool indispensable. I do a lot of one off site audits where there is no point setting up campaigns. So this tool is critical for me and I echo Karen, Tamara and Jeff's comments! Please don't take it away!!

  • Ok, so you are saying your webmaster tool says tons of 404 errors and your Moz account says multiple duplicate titles.... 404s: This will not be easy but you can fix it...all you have to do is to identify all the 404 pages and then the pages that are most relevant to them... use the redirect plug-in and redirect all the 404 pages to most relevant 200 (active pages) pages available on the website. Duplicate titles: For Duplicate Titles all you have to do is to identify all the duplicates and feature update with unique titles accordingly! Note: Usually using a Free WP theme is a shitty idea as they are not SEO friendly and contains tons of development faults! Hop this helps!

  • Scott, admittedly you could spend hours! Keyword research can be extensive and time-consuming, so ensure you/they have a clear understanding of their target audience and local. And when you are researching keywords, take advantage of Google Keyword Tool's ability to insert the URLs of the competitors. If their competition is ranking in the SERPs, look at their keywords. One more tip... You can use SEM Rush, free version has minimum data, to see phrases for which the competition is ranking as well as which URLs. Once you have a core set of terms that bring them value (money terms), evaluate their content to ensure they relevant content. Optimize from there. I'd suggest getting webmaster tools accounts set up with Google and Bing ASAP. You're on the right path!

  • Pretty much agree with Chris’s answer on this one! Press Releases still works but I believe with the period of time the SEO value of Press Release will go down so it is a good idea to use it naturally but do not specifically add it in your SEO strategy for link grabbing. If you have any news that you really want people to know, there is no problem in going with PRs (if using links try sing naked links or brand name as an anchor text) but do not use it just because you need a link with your desired anchor text on it!

  • Hey Matthew! Thanks a ton for writing in! Currently we do not have search volume as an integrated visual feature on the web app, you can however click on the individual keywords, which will then take you to the keyword analysis that will include the keyword search volume we pull from the search engine.  I can imagine though this process is very manual.  We really appreciate feedback and feature requests; they help us decide what parts of our software development to prioritize. Here's the feature request forum we use to collect ideas: http://seomoz.zendesk.com/forums/293194-seomoz-pro-feature-requests You can vote for features you'd like to see and suggest your own, both of which help our product team in deciding what to build next. Add your request there and hopefully we'll see it come to fruition sometime down the line. Thanks again, and best of luck! Peter Moz Help Team. Have a great day,

  • Hi Matthew, Without getting into the specifics of your site, it would seem the first step would be to identify the duplication errors Moz reports to see if they are actually valid, and then determine what is causing them and takes steps to address them. Within the duplicate content reports, there should be a number listed next to each URL showing the number of other pages with duplicate content. If you click on this number, you'll get a list of URLs. By comparing these URLs against each other, you can start to identify the problem. Does that make sense? Perhaps you've already taken this step, but it's hard to tell from the question. If you find that the URLs are fishy, and you suspect a problem with your CMS, it's often helpful to determine where the Moz crawlers discovered the links to these URLs. You can do this by downloading the entire CSV report. In the last column is a URL showing where the link was discovered. Knowing this is often helpful in rooting out problems. Hope this helps! Best of luck.

  • Two parts 1) If you link to two different URLs http://youngepilepsy.org.uk/news-and-events/events http://youngepilepsy.org.uk/news-and-events/events/ the two above would classify as that (with and without the slash are two different URLs) and 2) if your server shows a 200 response on both of those URLs and shows the same content for those URLs Then yes, you have a duplicate issue. You need to 1) Make sure you keep consistent with how you link to URLs (with or without the slashes). Decide on a standard, I personally like ending in slashes if this is an index page as this helps with reporting in places like Google Analytics where they are looking at your directory structure for reports. If you never end in a slash http://youngepilepsy.org.uk/news-and-events/events and http://youngepilepsy.org.uk/news-and-events/events/article-xyz these two pages would be put into two different "folders" in your report for Google Analytics. I went round and round with the developers on this and had to show them the reports in GA to show why. I also think we have had the standard that / being the index page for years now and then you have all the pages within it.  I know with modern CMSs there may not be any folders and these are all actually "routes", but as a mental organizational construct (and in the reporting example above) I think most people (who are not programmers) think that way. That said, I currently help run a site that has no trailing slashes, and I am living with it, again, being consistent is the most important.  You will see many wall known SEO sites go sans slashes, so either way will work. and 2) Then 301 redirect the "non standard" to the "standard" version (say the non slashed version to the slash version) so that you can clean up any other confusion that may be out there. Cheers!

  • Hi Luke, It really depends quite a lot on which exact keywords/phrases you are talking about. From a quick look at the two sites in open site explorer it is true that you have more linking domains than the other site. But... If you look at the homepage metrics, they are ahead of you in the moztrust and mozrank metrics. This 'might' be partly due to a better internal linking strategy on their part. The external links from both sites look a bit unnatural in that they have a number of non branded exact match links which are obviously pretty much there to try to influence rankings. Yours however are going the 'buliding materials' route and theirs are going the 'windows' route. They also have a lot less exact match and a lot less in percentage terms than your site which could be a factor if google is (likely) discounting a good chunk of those links. Again though, it really depends what keywords you are talking about. Hope that helps.... a bit!
