Can someone suggest a good wordpress plugin for compressing images?
I would add, to say between a memcache plugin and an .htaccess solution you are comparing apples to oranges.... Total Cache utilizes memory to cache (so even the cache can be slowed by the system) But with Supercache it is a static copy served using .htaccess So saying one is better than the other in a blanket response is kind of dead wrong --- They both do different things in different ways for different reasons/end solutions. Also, I had never used Smush, but it increased my load time and dropped my score with both Google and Pingdom, but I could have done something wrong

Redirecting duplicate pages
I agree 100% with Matt. I would also recommend checking your internal links to ensure that they are all following the same format with or without the /.

Left or right hand navigation
If it's a Portfolio of your Works - use the Left hand Navigation Menu ! Very Attractive. The Clients will be amazed by the work you did there and published ! If you have a blog or magazine webdesign go with the right hand side ! - as Takeshi said

'Increase in soft 404 errors' Webmasters notification. What to do?
We have an internal site search that moved into HTTPS. Google sending me the same message although all errors are redirect from HTTP to HTTPS with no issue. The hosting company checked that too - No errors at all!

Unable to set preferred domain, can I verify a site that's already redirected?
Glad you got it taken care of, Aggie. Now that you've got your answer, could you mark as "Good Answer" whichever answers you found most helpful and mark the overall question as answered? This will help other users who may come across the question in the future. Thanks! Google Webmaster Message!!
Agreed but Create a back up prior to updating to be sure that whatever theme and plugins you are using work.

Migrating a site to Wordpress
Cheers Dan, Once it's live I will be double, triple, quadruple checking everything! Paranoid I will miss something or do something wrong! Planning on doing it when I've a lot of time to spare just to be on safe side in case things go wrong! I shall give the plugin a go as well I think. Thanks Ted

Noindex follow
Greetings te_c To answer your first question, yes, the search engines would crawl (provided they are crawlable) the internal links linking to other pages on your site. The second question I would like to answer but I need you to rephrase please? Do you mean robots.txt? You first question implied a meta tag, because that is what would appear in the section of a page. If your instruction "no follow" is in the of your site, then the suggestion to the search engine is not to follow. Conversely, if the instruction is "follow" the engine is told to follow. This is irrespective of whether the links are internal or external. To my knowledge, there is no instruction that can be fed to search engines that says "crawl if internal, don't crawl is external." You can accomplish this of course with creative workarounds, but there is no "command" for it. Also, keep in mind that these instructions for search engines are only suggestions. The engines may do something completely different and follow, or not depending on their "will." I hope that's helpful! Dana

Redirects (301/302) versus errors (404)
To add to what George says.... Google often tries to crawl pages that don't exist - simply to make sure they aren't missing anything on your site. When a page is clearly broken, you want to communicate this to Google by serving a 404 (but you can make it a friendly 404) Here's what Googler John Mueller has to say: What about the funky URLs that are “clearly broken?” When our algorithms like your site, they may try to find more great content on it, for example by trying to discover new URLs in JavaScript. If we try those “URLs” and find a 404, that’s great and expected. We just don’t want to miss anything important (insert overly-attached Googlebot meme here)." Google expects to find 404s on your site. When they don't find 404s for links that should be broken, this sends confusing signals and could cause crawl problems. I recommend reading this entire article - it's one of the most helpful I've ever read on the subject: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.ch/2011/05/do-404s-hurt-my-site.html As for expired products - as George said it's best to 301 them, usually to a category level page.

For A Corporation With 3 Distinct Business Divisions, Is It Better To Go With 1 Domain & 3 Sub-Domains, 1 Domain & 3 Folders, or 3 Domains for SEO Purposes?
Marcus - Hi, thanks for the helpful considerations, I certainly agree it seems to be much simpler to keep it all as one and ensure a clean hierarchy with breadcrumbs for nav and so on. Perhaps that may yet be the best way to go, I will definitely keep your points in consideration as I discuss with the client! Dan

Google just dont display my site meta description/title tags correctly!
Hi Dana, Thanks so much for the helpful response! Mine was a travel site and sometime posts have to be really long title tags which is inevitable. What i am curious about is that the main pages with the highest page authority, all their title tags are in fact not updated by google! or rather google chose to do otherwise at its own smart interpretation.. those title tags are well within the 70 /58 characters...and with very short meta description.

Contact form on home page.
If you don't mind doing a little coding you could try this simple contact form http://css-tricks.com/nice-and-simple-contact-form/ There are other options out there for a full blown contact form from MailChimp et al, although many seem to be trying to get money for what is essentially a really basic thing. Mail Chimp or Constant Contact is good if all you want is basic email capture, with Mail Chimp offering free services under 2000 subscribers, although it does include a mail chimp link or small logo. If you Google "html contact form" you'll get lots of options. Personally I would go with Chris Coyier's option above and include his spam options. If you dont need to change from html to php I would'nt do it. 301s are great but when I changed a site from html with a 301 it didnt pass all the link juice and there was a slight drop in traffic, plus it stop you needlessly complicating it. If you need help in setting it up let me know
