  • Yea I see your concern. They are all my movies/films/data, some are movies i've purchased, I would have to be careful to not let anyone get access though because then that would be file sharing. Thanks for your help though! Still sounds like it would be better to just get an external hardrive if i would have to go through the trouble of upgrading hosting accounts. You tha man Sebastian!

  • Hiding text in this manner is a perfectly acceptable UI choice, and will not negatively impact your site. When people talk about hiding text being a negative factor, they are referring to cases where people will stuff tons of keywords into invisible divs, or have text that's the same background as the page, or other methods of presenting the search engine with different content than the user, which is basically cloaking.

  • And do a complete database backup before you start the process so you will have a method to revert if anything goes wrong! This process involves a lot of "moving parts" and themes can vary quite a bit etc, so it's critical to build an escape hatch before you start. Paul

  • Hi, We have two sites mysite.com and aa.mysite.com. We want to track these sites separately. We created two different properties with IDs UA-XXX-1 for main domain UA-XXX-2 for subdomain. gaq code for main domain is as following, gaq code for subdomain is as following, It works well for subdomain. But we want to see traffic from subdomain to main domain as referral. What is wrong with the gaq code of main domain?  Do i need to change code or is it enough to inactivate subdomain tracking option in profile settings of main domain? Thanks in advance,

  • Are your sites cross-linked at all (I'm not seeing anything obvious)? The cascade effect across all of them almost suggests they were either (1) seen as a link network, or (2) you're using the same link strategy across all of them. I'd watch the keyword stuffing - your titles are pretty aggressive, and then you repeat those lists in the copy at the top and bottom of the page. It's borderline at best. I don't think it's enough to get multiple sites penalized, but it may not be helping you right now. You've got a duplicate of the London Escape home-page floating out there in the index: http://www.londonescape.com/index.php?option=com_wesearch&task=loginVIAFacebook Might want to add rel=canonical to the home-page, just to sweep up things like that. You're indexed and I'm able to get the site ranking on very targeted keywords (exact-match and fairly unique), but you fall off the map for everything else. That's definitely indicative of a link-based penalty.

  • Thanks for the ideas and input, Christina! *Disclaimer: SEOmoz discussions are not responsible for a drop in productivity due to commenters finding the examples used to be awesome.

  • Dan, Feel like I'm getting close to wanting to make that switch.  I've deleted quite a few affiliate product pages in hopes of pushing Panda away and so that there won't be as many pages to switch over.  There are many more that I can delete as well. What type of services can you provide to help with a smooth transition to Wordpress? Ed

  • In my opinion, you want the juice for each article to stay with each article.  I wouldn't redirect all your article juice back to the main /blog page.  For me, each unique page (and article) gets its own canonical link and one line = one set of information.  Article about oranges, article about apples, both canonical links.  You should only get juice from same or similar pages, such as yoursite.com/ yoursite.com/index.php www.yoursite.com/index.php www.yoursite.com/ But not yoursite.com/oranges/

  • Hey As Tom mentioned, if it was the 22nd then it is likely a Panda issue. Without a link we can only speculate but the obvious starting point would be to review his site content to assess how unique it is. If he has a site full of manufacturers product descriptions then he needs to audit his site and identify any internal and external duplication. My advice would be to sign up with copyscape.com and do a full site audit to determine what content is duplicated, weak etc. Also, it would make sense to understand what is going on with the robots.txt problems. This may be intentional but it is certainly something to cross of the list. On a positive note, this is the easiest of the penalties to work with as you simply have to remove all the duplication and improve the site to earn it's place in the results. Try to use this as an exercise to focus on creating a solid and informative site and adding real value through the content. Hope that helps! Marcus

  • Matthew, I wrote a piece here a while back about what to make sure you do when relaunching/revamping a website to avoid ranking disaster. You may find it gives you some answers. I would also say, dont panic yet. A website redesign is a huge code change and flux can be expected initially.

  • "move to a new ecomm cart that allows a blog on the domain and migrate over all the content?" I would do that. Put the content from www.islesurfboardsblog.com on your primary domain www.islesurfboards.com. Make sure to do a 301 redirect on a page-by-page level from www.islesurfboardsblog.com to www.islesurfboards.com once the content has been moved. Don't just do a blanket 301 to the homepage of www.islesurfboards.com. Watch this video on how to do the 301 redirect correctly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1lVPrYoBkA

  • Hi! The term you're looking for is called Sitelinks. Here's what Google has to say about them, and how you can demote links you'd prefer not to show. http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=47334

  • Are you trying to 301 redirect a sitemap? A sitemap is just guide to help search engines crawl your site. If you feel a sitemap is no longer necessary, just remove it. No need to 301 it or anything.

  • If they break up that domain they need to have their heads examined.
