How do I optimize a site designed to be one scrolling page of content?
growing trend? according to who/what? Donna is right. This will not work unless you have a pre-established brand and traffic incoming. If you want to optimize for multiple keywords on one page, you're out of luck. I mean... the basics of SEO will tell you that. Good luck changing the industry, though! I myself would immediately run away from a long scrolling one-page site. I'm not sure why you'd even want to do that, seeing as how people still navigate from the top header... what's the difference? I'll tell you the difference - limited SEO options and keyword targets.

On site SEO opinions
Hi Daniel, Thank you for pointing all of these issues out. You are right - it is important to make it obvious what I am doing and who I am. I am going to make a few changes and then let you know on this thread. Thank you for all of the advice, Tom

From Google Sites to Wordpress - Anyone Ventured this SEO terrain?
Hi Anthony There's two separate things here, so I'll attack each one individually - and give you some insight to the thought process. First - there's the issue of IF you should move them to WP Second - if you should, the question is how? Should You Move To** WordPress** It's unquestionable that for design, practicality, and long term benefits - you should move them to WordPress. The issue it really all about the ranking. So the questions then become - WHY is the site ranking now, and could you preserve that ranking with a migration. I would look at things in the following ways. First - determine what keywords we're talking about. Is it just head terms? Is it just the exact match of the domain? I'd make a list. Then - try to determine why the sites are ranking for the given keywords. The Keyword Difficulty tool is great for that. Basically - what we really need to rule out, is if Google sites pass any authority that regular sites do not? I don't see that this is the case. My inclination would be the say that you can safely migrate - so long as it's done correctly .. see next. How To Migrate To WordPress I should preface and say that I have no experience with Google Sites. But let's assume the following things are possible. Build your new WordPress site - obviously on a test server of some sort. Make the new WordPress site have the same content as the current site (same text, titles, etc). We want as little variables and moving parts. Scrape the existing site if you have to with Screaming Frog to grab a lot of that. You can change URLs if you want to - but prepare the 301 redirects ahead of time. "Flip the switch" - I assume you're on your own hosting? You can just basically switch out Google Sites with WordPress. Immediately activate the 301 redirects (if any). Immediately crawl the site looking for 404s Monitor webmaster tools for 404s. After a few weeks, you can probably start improving text etc etc. Obviously without a deeper look I can't guarantee this as full proof. But I believe you should be fine - the main thing is just those 301s. Also - couldn't hurt to just try this on one site first! -Dan

Do pages with low PA effect DA?
Howdy, Let me address your question from a technical point of view. Disclaimer: I am not a Data Scientist at Moz, nor do I know the precise algorithms that comprise DA and PA. That said, I am comfortable discussing these metrics in broad terms. Q. "I was wondering if our very low PA pages are bringing the overall DA down?" A. In short, no. Generally speaking, low PA pages won't bring down a site's DA. Q. "If I delete low PR pages, would that help my overall DA?" A. Again, no, but this is a more interesting question! If your site was hit by Panda, or has lots of low-quality duplicate content pages, then in many cases removing the worst offending pages has sometimes been shown to improve search rankings. This won't be reflected in your Domain Authority score, as DA doesn't take Panda-like considerations into its algorythm. And this isn't to say you should remove low PA pages based on this consideration. But if you suspect low-quality pages (not the same as low PA pages) are hurting you and serve little purpose to the visitor, or you suspect a Panda penalty, then this is the only case I'd suggest considering removing pages. Hope this helps! -Cyrus

How does a Responsive Site kill SEO?
Hello Jason, This is one of the best (ok, IMO the best explanation of responsive design I have seen to date) especially laying out the difference between server side - dynamic design - and responsive. The thought you placed into this whole answer to provide one that is concise and cogent is excellent. I like the point up about the lazy designer and page speed as something to be aware of. Typically, as an agency, we are not often dealing with a client bringing mobile and desktop forward. It is more likely we will be dealing with someone whose site has lost appeal, power, relevance, etc. and we typically build responsive for all. So the thoughts around url changes are helpful as well. Thank You, Robert

Bounce rate increased by 50%
Hi Semantique, Hmm from a quick look I would look at the following. Page Speed - Check out the home page on Pingdom http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/recfTiYWP/http://www.catwalkqueen.tv/ I would look to crunch the images for a start, they were very slow to load, the background image alone is almost 300kb. Caching images would be recommended, ask you devs to combine Javascript files OR stylesheets where possible... Dan

Key word variations
I didnt really mean to just change it but would this help the overall seo. Like i have seen many times doing searches that google ends up taking bits and pieces of my keyword and site to rank for that term.

Question #2: All of my INTERNAL links in OSE are being indexed from http://www.e.com/default.asp, and all my EXTERNAL links are linked to http://www.e.com/ am I getting a fraction of the link juice because of that?????
Tyler, Without digging too deeply, I have a couple of suggestions to help you in the overall. First, I cannot find a 'canonical redirect' and it appears you have not set a preferred domain in WMT. When you go into OSE, typically you will see something like: "this url redirects to x and we are showing that as it is more representative... " When you have done the preferred domain and/or canonical redirect you are telling the engines that the domain: mysiteexample.com and the sub domain www.mysiteexample.com should be seen as one in the same. That will help a lot with what you have here. On your internal links, go into GWMT and click on Traffic. Your dropdown will include internal links. That will show these to you. (Note that you likely will show both www and non in WMT. If you click on one and go to internal and it says no data available... go to the other. For preferred in case you are unfamiliar, click on Configuration, Settings, Preferred Domain Choose which you want and boogie on... Hope it helps, Robert

Geo Tagging Your Website?
Hello Ricky Miriam is correct regarding more info making life simpler for all, so please give us a bit more. That said, I will tell you that I believe in using maps in a site as opposed to images of maps for the geolocation feature they provide. For local, I prefer geo-tagged photos of real locations as opposed to a bunch of branding logos, etc. Having done a lot of real estate sites and tested various methodologies, I remain convinced, that the more you are clear about where you are re a site and local, the better the result will be when it comes to ranking. Given Picasa and given Google Business Photo efforts, I just think the proof is there. (no pun intended). Best, Robert

Title tag on Google starts with company name then :
Ok thanks to you both... I was wondering if it was something to do with the code. So I will have to dig a bit deeper and see!

New Website Redesign: Any Design Comments or SEO Suggestions?
Hi Ron, We did the design in house. Our graphic designer and I sat down and just started critiquing all of our competitors. We found things we liked about sites and things we didn't. Then we took a hard left turn... we started looking at web design websites, hip and trendy consumer product pages (we do B2B), we actually even looked at a really cool ice cream distributor's website to get some inspiration. BlueGlass posted this article last June on 21 Tools to Unlock Your Creative Genius which definitely does get your mind working in a different way. And here is an AWESOME site that has "the best designs" - which is pretty true to its name. Once we had our inspiration, we started wireframing and drafting things. When we had the basic idea of what we wanted the pages to look like, we paused and made sure that it would be able to accommodate our SEO plan as well. We made some changes for SEO purposes... then just went with it. Hope this brief information gives you an idea of how we were able to come up with our design. Mike PS our graphic designer and his brother do some freelance webdesign work. PM me and I can get you his contact information.

Does Google penalize duplicate website design?
To tell you the truth we are already ranking with our main domain for some of the keywords we are after but we're just trying to speeding things up a bit. We've tried the strategy with exact match domains before for some different keywords and, after just 1 week and like 60 listings in different local business directories, the domains ranked for the exact match keyword somewhere between position 3 and 7. The designs were different though. As long as we don't have to invest more than the actual domain price and we get about 20 bookings per month for each domain, it still counts as profit. Well, thank you very much once again for your answer. Your oppinions have been more than helpful for me. Best regards, Tiberiu

How to convert whole established wordpress site into html site
Perhaps you can download the site from a website downloader tool. Then, you'd have to just clean it up and adjust the pagenames and paths to the right files. Otherwise, there are other solutions. Perhaps you can use CloudFlare.com to cache and distribute your site's load. Or, have you considered using a cache Plugin, like: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/w3-total-cache/ ? Scott O. P.S. If you feel I have been helpful, please consider marking this as "Good Answer".
