  • That shouldn't be a problem, but I would consider two important factors involved in this move: a) IP geolocalization (this experiment from Richard Baxter is very illustrative: https://builtvisible.com/ip-location-search-results/) and b) performance of the new CDN.

  • Hey, Yes, it does. If you're getting a link on a particular page of yours, PA (Page Authority) of that page will definitely gonna increase and the other linked pages on a root domain level also get the benefit. This is how your overall Domain authority or PR build.. Hope this helps! Umar

  • Assuming the links you add to the top navigation are followable href links I think this sounds like a good idea for the reasons you state, as well as sounding more mobile and tablet friendly. It would be good to see the site though.

  • I have done a few bits in Magento before and found it relatively easy to develop further and include new elements, pages or blocks. At the end of the day Magento is a hugely customisable and very good e-commerce platform, so I don't think the system is the problem, it would sound like you are being held back by your developers. As per Franciso, I would suggest looking for a few new developers to help you with the system. If you are constantly trying to further optimise your site such as with a/b tests, better UX, UI, SEO and more then I would consider setting up an in-house team that can concentrate on it full time and that way you update as and when required not months down the line.

  • We've done some testing around Magento hosting, and our conclusion was that you'll see significant performance increases by hosting on a powerful VPS instead of shared hosting. In the testing we did, we used a KnownHost SSD VPS, and saw 50-100% increases in page load speeds compared to shared hosting. That's what I would suggest - a KnownHost SSD VPS.

  • Travis, Thank you for this detailed response! Your correct with the assumption that the site does not fit our needs. The problem was that the company we work with develops WP sites using their own theme which is a very raw form of WP. Basically out of box the site does not have the functionality of any mainstream WP theme (no blog, backed limits a lot of control, a lot of custom CSS needed, etc.) We thought maybe installing a second theme would put a little more control in our hands (at least for the blog), and this could be done in house. After reading all the responses including yours it seems this unfortunately is not the way to go. Thank you for the all the info, Patrick

  • Do you know what kind of account your client has? Is it a shared / vps / or ededicated machine they are using? Also, is their site primarily static? Or does it update constantly or have interactive updating features like an e-commerce site.

  • Good point, thanks. Will choose a geo prompt instead, similar to what Amazon use. Will advise the user that there is a store for their location and offering a link to click.

  • I had a quick look at your site and there are a few things you can do.  Below is a must do technical audit. I would work through the list and identify opportunities. https://moz.com/blog/technical-site-audit-for-2015 I would also check page speed. - a site with a number of tools to check your site is website-tools.net Get started on the site audit  lets see how you go.  feel free to ask any questions. .

  • Hi Kay, I saw the screenshot and yes, I would recommend making space in your page design so that you can have a unique H1 (main heading/the most important headline) properly created for each of your pages. The H1 not only helps the search engines figure out what a page is about, but how a page is structured as well. The same goes for screen readers. This is why it is still best practice to make the H1 the main headline of the page, vs. a navigational element (with one unique H1 per page). While the importance of using a keyword-rich H1 has declined over the years as a page ranking factor, it still carries some weight. That said, when writing H1s (and title tags), it's always wise to consider what will be most helpful for the user. (And that is often if not always the same thing that is helpful for the search engines!) I agree with Andy that on an ecommerce site, if the heading for the page is a product name/type (or contains the product name/type), then this usually makes a good H1. I also agree that you should place it in the main body of the of the page, not the navigation. (Usually the tag is placed right after the opening tag.) I partly disagree with him that this shouldn't be a copy of a the title tag. I've found that using the same copy for the title and H1 tags (for the same corresponding page) is good for the user experience, and can reduce pogo sticking. So when the user clicks on a title in the SERPs through to a page with the same heading, it is obvious they found the right page. They clicked on the search result they thought looked good, and this page is obviously about the same thing... this is the page they want. Does that make sense? If using the product name/type for the H1, though, will not give you a compelling title tag (or a super short one), I would recommend sticking with the product name/type for the H1, and incorporating the same copy into the title tag (i.e., adding on to it, which could be as simple as adding your brand name). I hope this helps! Christy
