  • I am not aware of any benefit to removing the pages slowly over time as opposed to all at once.

  • I agree with Alice. Time would be better spent these days looking for other places to post that content, that is not to say article marketing is worthless completely, but I don't put enough weight into it myself to spend the time when I could use other tactics that would get better results.

  • Hi Anthony, Guest blogging is a part of our SEO strategy as well. How did you discover that squidoo and article directories took a big hit? I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere that the effectiveness has reduced since penguin.

  • It's still linked, so Google will still read it. I just honestly don't know how Google will interpret it. Is this something that's in place? What is webmaster tools showing?

  • The title on the home page needs to be edited. "Chant PA Real Estate sell PA Homes for Sale in Pike & Wayne County PA" may have keywords in it but you have to remember that this is the title that will show up in the SERPs.  It is your first impression to a potential visitor/customer, so make sure it is something people would click on!

  • It's worth noting that title tags are often misused. Either because webmasters are trying to spam their keywords or because they're not aware of it's proper use. Obviously sets the subject of the page. Should only be used for sub sections of the page. For example: User Reviews is good usage, because its a sub section of the page. Featured Product , Online Users aren't really sub sections of a page, so I'd avoid using title tags for things like that.

  • At a high level, SEO is based upon 3 factors: website architecture, content and site promotion (i.e. links + social media). With any site, but especially a large one, it is critical every aspect of your website architecture is solid. There are tons of design issues which, once resolved, help a site to rank better. A few quick examples: are coding errors or site speed issues interfering with the way search engines crawl your site? do you have an automated process for internal linking? (i.e. like Wikipedia) do you offer users the ability to sign in with 1 click from their social account? do you have a mobile website? do you offer solid social engagement? comments? etc The above are just a few sample questions. Anything which can be done via code should be perfect on a large site like yours. The changes effect every single product offered on your site. Next, evaluate your content. How good is it really? Good is not good enough, and neither is great. You need "absolutely fantastic" and "best on the web" content to rank at the top. Being unique is only the beginning. Be "engaging". Offer detailed pictures of not only the products but images of the products being used. Allow users to share their experience with testimonials / comments, etc.

  • SEO benefit? Nah, nothing. But redirecting the .com and .co.uk sites is probably better for the customer. I'm speaking as someone who used to hate when typing in twitter.co.uk sent me to a crappy MFA page (but somehow never remembered that I wanted the .com). If you've already got the domains what else are you going to do with them?

  • Hi Avi, I have also used youtube videos on sites without using the scheme.org video markup and they have been showing up in serps as well. There's an interesting article, where this was tested by an SEO who also concluded that you don't need the scheme.org markup for Youtube videos: http://www.reelseo.com/embedded-youtube-indexed-google/ Considering Google owns Youtube, I guess it's no surprise! Adam.

  • interlinking different domains targeting the same keyword universe can get you penalized, so if you're going to play the "more than one horse in the race" game keep them as independent as possible and know what you're doing and understand the risks.

  • Thanks for the response. Do you think we need to stay consistent - for example if we decide to use this version - http://www.businessbroker.net/State/California-Businesses_For_Sale.aspx as the preferred version - should we use this as the preferred version for all states -- even if this version is not the ranking version for a particular state? Thanks again, MM

  • I've been hearing this for years and it's always the same thing: Google likes .edu but not because it's .edu. EDU sites are typically major link bait in of themselves and they also don't link to other sites on a whim. As a result, they wind up with high site popularity and great link juice.

  • My conclusion would be to look elsewhere and as you said, sit back and watch them closely.  Maybe some linked sites got hit hard and lost their weight in Google over the last week with this latest algorithm change and it indirectly effected your product pages.
