  • THe logic i like to follow, is make sure all domain names point to the correct version. to make that plain rather than, if B then redirect to A, you should say if Not A then redirect to A For linux servers put this in your htaccess RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.mydomain.com$ RewriteRule (.*) "http://www.mydomain.com/$1" [R=301,L] for a windows server I have a tutorial here http://thatsit.com.au/seo/tutorials/how-to-fix-canonical-domain-name-issues

  • I read back over what Rand posted over 5 years ago!  I have moved several sites and what Rand said is still best practice.  Google indexing is nothing to play with.  Taking down content and then trying to get it to rank again can look very spammy to Google.

  • if you do make sure it is  cross-domain rel="canonical" http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com.au/2009/12/handling-legitimate-cross-domain.html If you have 301ed it I would not worry about the .net dupes

  • You'll want to verify your site in Google Webmaster Tools, then look for any messages in there from Google that might alert you to any problems they've found with your site. Has your traffic changed? Have your rankings changed?

  • I echo what Ryan said 100%.  Another suggestion - especially because it sounds like you're going to start with a whole bunch of info - is to add a blog.  When you're building a site, especially one that has a whole bunch of info go live at once, is to stay focused on fresh content. With my businesses' sites, I've really found that pushing content all at once during the launch gets me indexed, but doesn't necessarily get me the SERP position I want.  I try to write two articles a week per website at a minimum.  It keeps the crawlers coming back and increases my site wide keyword density and potential for catching long tail searched.

  • Assuming no problems with the bulk of the pages, i expect these will be picked up over time. It might be a good idea to do Fetch as Google in WMT (under Health tab) on homepage and submit to index - click all linked pages too. gl

  • My thought here is that this is a causation vs correlation issue.  I don't believe that registering a domain for more than a year will have any effect on SEO. However, if you look at well established websites, they are more likely to have their domain names registered for a longer period of time.  A well established website is more likely to be well managed and to have accumulated worthy backlinks.  As such, the well established site is going to rank better in the SERPS.  But this increase in ranking is not because the domain name is registered for more than a year. See what I'm saying?

  • Ben - I agree.   Using a shared hosting service and a CDN provider, 1.5 is probably better than my average load speed especially on pages that have earned extensive comments.  Everyone using shared hosting would be penalized.  Sounds like someone is selling patent medicines to me.

  • Well, it doesn't have to be PR Web, but writing a press release is just another way to repurpose content...

  • I usually instruct affiliate managers to write their own company bio and/or product descriptions for affiliates to use. Treat every single piece of content on your site as if it were an asset, because it is. You can have 2,000 affiliates linking to you (though their links should probably be nofollowed) from within the same company bio or product description as long as that is not ALSO the same company bio or product description you use on your site. If they all want to share content that's their problem. Just don't let them share YOUR content.

  • Hi Oleksiy, Check out: http://blumenthals.com/blog/2012/06/08/google-for-business-places-forums-wrapup/ Miriam Ellis linked this a few days ago and it seems to have a lot of good answers. Bottom line is that they are rolling out a program to merge business Google+ pages with the Google+ Local pages that were created from the recent transition. Regarding your email question here is a quote from the linked article: "Be sure that you upgrade your Google account to a Google+ personal account. Life will be much easier if it has the same email as your dashboard account as it will make the coming merge go more smoothly. If your Google+ Business page is created under a different account than your Places listing, then add the email for the Places Dashboard as an additional manager of the G+Business Page." Best of luck, Jason
