Undo a 301 redirect
Hi Sandra I would: take away the old 301s establish a sitewide 301 redirect from your current to your "old" domain definitely use Webmaster Tools to indicate the domain change to Google. This really speeds things up. However, don't expect your rankings to go back to normal again - it normally takes a few months to earn the old domain trust again. Also, make sure that the domain you're migrating back to is clean and safe (i.e. never used for spam and a clean link profile). Hope this helps!

How to prevent 404's from a job board ?
Thank you Brad, There are a few options and before I choose I wanted to get some feedback from some Seo pro's like yourself as you never know when I may learn something new or find a better solution to the things I do. I def. do not want all those 404's on the site.

I can't help but think something is wrong with my SEO
I think it is part of the slider you are using for moving the posts. Not familiar with it, but that is what I think.

Yahoo Directory paid submission adds value?
Claudio, These are directory sites that have reputacion and Google knows that. This is not a link-building tactic to fool the search engines. Anyway you can check this video from Matt Cutts, and if you pay attencion you will hear him talking about directories This video from July 2012 as more interesting things about SEO. Check it out

How to do a 301 redirect for url's with this structure?
You can do this via RedirectMatch statements. There is an example of different match types you could use here. Basically, you create a pattern and then the code is smart enough to redirect based on that pattern. http://www.askapache.com/htaccess/301-redirect-with-mod_rewrite-or-redirectmatch.html#301_Redirects_RedirectMatch Your redirect might look something like this though you might want to adjust the pattern match the directory in between /reviews/ and /item/. Mine is just a basic alphanumeric catch all. RedirectMatch 301 ^/articles/reviews/([-A-z0-9]+)/item/(.*)$ http://clients.qwconsulting.com/reviews/$1 I hope that helps.

Sitelinks
I just tried their site search and looked at their backlinks and nothing with that misspelling appeared. However, I did a google search for the site and misspelling and found a smattering of sites that had the link and the title tag listed with the misspelling. Would google be displaying an old title tag even if the page was cached on Aug. 3?

Interesting site migration question.
301ing the old URLs to the new ones will pass the link equity that they had gained from external links. However this doesn't necessarily equate to the new pages having the same rankings: there are other factors that will influence that. For instance, if the new page had much better on page optimisation than the old one then it could rank better. Likewise if the structure of your site gave more (or less) prominence to a particular URL then that might influence how it ranks. The definitive answer you are looking for is "probably not". However I would say that the more accurate answer is "probably not, but there is not reason you couldn't not equal of better the other rankings, if you pay attention to the other factors in play".

Making anchor text look more natural
Hi Ben, Thanks for the link, very good read. I also read this: Clearly, after Panda 3.3, Google implemented some sort of threshold for what they feel is an appropriate ratio of anchor text that any website should have. Websites with a higher ratio than this threshold saw the value of all of those links completely discounted — it was as if they didn’t exist anymore On http://www.audiencebloom.com/2012/04/how-to-recover-your-rankings-after-panda-3-3-3-4-3-5-or-penguin-delete-or-dilute/ Does this mean going back to these websites where the exact match anchor text is a changing it to lets say phrase or brand will not make any difference?

Would having a bilingual sitemap listed in Google cause issues?
By both languages do you mean you have two identical pages in two languages? Mark them up with rel="alternate" hreflang="x" and it will be ok. More details: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2620865&topic=2370587&ctx=topic

Relaunching old site - Will it regain former link equity?
Hi Ben, if you remove the 301 redirect on the old site it should start picking up the old link equity again, but there's a couple of things to think about. 1. I'm guessing that there are likely to be no new links to the old site so the site's rankings may suffer with regards to freshness. If there are no fresh links to this site for a while then this could be a sign that it's no longer relevant/considered an authoritative site. You may want to think about regularly publishing and promoting fresh content over a few months to bring the site "back to life" 2. Do the old links still exist? Has there been any change in the authority of the linking domains? Make sire you check the links that are pointing to your old site. You may find that some have been removed or "decayed" and/or sites have been updated to link to your new site. Make sure the link equity you think the old site has still exists. 3. Are you certain that removing the 301 isn't going to significantly damage your current sites standings? How close is it ranking with regard to the competition? (Even a small drop in link equity can cause significant drops) 4. Some things to watch out for regarding the brand - be careful about confusing your target audience. Make sure that your two sites don't compete with each other. Make sure that they have unique value propositions/appeals. Make sure that you know exactly who you are targeting with on each site. Do they address different problems. 5. Consider the ROI! You'll be splitting your time between two sites. Can you commit to the necessary work required to build/promote both or will trying to run two sites reduce the time and attention you're giving to your old site? Instead of creating new content on two sites - can't you create new content/offerings on the one site? Hope this helps!

New links not showing in site explorer ?
Google makes no promises that it will show you all of the links that it knows about, and also makes no promises that the links that it shows count for anything. They have publicly admitted they do not count links from UpDowner, for example, to the relief of many webmasters. At the beginning of your response, you state your website rankings have improved. That is one report you can show the client. Other things to look at for your client are their traffic and how that has changed -- have those links given the client any referral traffic? has the client's organic traffic increased on keywords you've been targeting? has your client made more conversions? Page and Domain authority are nice, but they don't pay the client's mortgage. Find things that help show to the client what you have done is my suggestion.

Declining Organic Traffic despite PR, links and engagement
Thanks Tom and Daniel! The domain authority has been steadily increasing and there are a few similar sites that I'm tracking as competitors who are providing editorial content vs just product pages plus UGC. But they don't appear to be doing anything new. I do have last summer's data when the site operated under a different domain and search traffic is significantly down in the comparable months last year. Quite flummoxed.

What's the best SEO practice for having dynamic content on the same URL?
Had a lot of experience with this... What you need to know here is: A. ) Remember that Google will always see/cache the page as seen by user without any cookie. B. ) This is an acceptable method of doing thing (personalization is allowed) but I wouldn't create 2 totally different content pages here. Small changes are fine but anything major can be considered as "hidden content". C.) As a rule, using different URLs is better for SEO (but maybe not for conversion) For example, I had a site that used cookie for language setting - simply spreading the whole content over unique URL improved organic traffic by+100% (and we are talking many thousands here). Not saying this is you case, because your description sound more like a landing-page optimization, but wanted to mention this for any future thread readers. GL

# element above Menu - Is there any SEO Value to it
Hi Chaits I generally agree with Kevin about the user experience. Its always more important to please your users than Google. Having said that, we did experience a quite significant increase in rankings when "moving" a menu. In our case the menu was a "modern" style dropdownmenu with additional texts to describe each menu item. So when creating a landing page for the keyword "Malmo" texts about the other pages was actually located above the actual text about the keyword "Malmo". You can see an example here: http://www.meresverige.dk/rejser/malmo What we did to solve the problem, and to also make a better user experience, was to load only the first level in the menu at loadtime, then fill in the actual dropdown with a simple AJAX call. This way the actual keyword content comes higher up on the page, and the landing page is not "poluted" with other keywords and texts from the menu. Over and out Fredrik

How can you rank for several cities ?
Targeting the local search results (Places/Google+ Local) isn't always a viable strategy depending on the the competitiveness of the industry and the number of/geographic distance between the target cities. If you're in a really competitive industry and you're based in one city, and you're looking to target a city that's a 45 minute drive away, Google is likely going to serve up more geographically relevant search results, regardless of the quality of Local SEO work that you've done. In this case, you may be dealing with target keywords that don't always/often produce a local search results section.
