  • They have the ability to, if it's actually being used with live data that i'm not sure. I posted a link to a few interesting articles on a forum i'm on: http://forums.seochat.com/seo-help-general-chat-16/google-understanding-images-482771.html

  • Hi, I would stay clear of automated software such as SEnuke TNG. It 'simulates clicks' and 'builds links for you' - basically your one-way ticket to a Google Penalty. Yes, there's a chance that this may give you a short term boost in traffic, but rest assured your site will be laid to waste when Google picks up on it and it'll take you months to get it back to normal again. My advice, don't touch it. Keep your 'white hat' on and do SEO right. I hope this helps, Sean

  • Generally speaking, in our experience, it's not worth it to take the time to change filenames (and thus change URLs) unless you absolutely have to. If you're still using the same CMS, then just changing the URL might not be worth it, as you have to take time to set up a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new URL. What it would be worth it to do is to go with a flat file structure, such as domain.com/category/page or domain.com/page/. In the long run, you won't generally have to change URLs in the future if you move to another CMS. If those pages are ranking well with the current URL, you may not want to change the filename. But, if they aren't ranking on the first page, it should be fine to change the filename. Don't forget to set up 301 redirects from the old URL to the new URL.

  • Hi there One thing to remember is that Google and Bing are two separate search engines with different crawlers and different processes. This could just be a matter of Bing not seeing your images yet. One thing I would do, is create a Bing Webmaster Tools profile and submit your sitemap to them. This will definitely help you! Keep in mind that you don't have to create a second sitemap, you can include images in your regular sitemap XML. (ScreamingFrog can do this for you!) Also, take a look at Schema opportunities that will help you tag images on pages properly. There have been studies that show that pages with Schema rank higher than a page without Schema, so it only helps you there as well! Be patient, it sounds like you're on the right path, but with search engines, it's unfortunately a waiting game sometimes and it sounds like you're no different than the rest of us! Hope this helps! Good luck! P

  • Thanks Vijay. My question was more for local listing. How to optimize our group location lists, so they show up in Google 3 pack and minimize the completion with our own doctors.

  • On my site there is a gallery made by images embedded as background images. Google doesn't see them.

  • Hi Dave, Just wondering if by any chance you gave Synup a chance are are still using it. Seems their model has changed a bit since your post from 2 years ago, and on paper it looks great, but I have not been able to get any feedback from people using them. Ira

  • Thanks Andy - I was thinking about using video syndication software to solve the time issue, but I can certainly see your logic with Youtube / Google

  • Text-wise, I'd say go with a full transcription if you can. Search engines can't index video content (it's not text), so including a transcription allows you to get the benefits of that content. Good examples of video + transcription are our Whiteboard Fridays.

  • Are the video's on a secondary site i.e. YouTube? If so what you suggested about writing new descriptions for te videos would help, ensuring that the videos have their individual own pages unless they're all about the same subject. Also this way you can use H1 and TITLE tags too! Regards Dave

  • There is generally no reason that you need to redirect old images if the new site design no longer uses them. However, you might just keep them on the server in the same location.

  • We can clean up the channel...the reason we were considering moving to a new channel is because we were considering moving from an xyz@gmail.com login to an @domain.com login. Does anyone have thoughts on the SEO benefits of an @domain.com login vs @gmail.com login? Or is adding my url to the  "Associated website" channel setting sufficient for SEO purposes?

  • Hi John! Ahh! I always think of this as NAP+W (name, address, phone + website) so I wanted to be sure U-NAP wasn't some type of product or service I'd never heard of before. U-NAP ... I like it. Okay, so you should be able to get good guidance on this from Google's guidelines, which state: Containment information indicating that your business is located inside another business (whether or not the businesses are part of the same organization). Not acceptable: "Chase ATM (in Duane Reade)", "Apple Store at Stanford Shopping Center", "Benefit Brow Bar - Bloomingdales", "Sam’s Club Tire & Battery (part of Sam’s Club)", "Geek Squad (inside Best Buy)" Acceptable: "Chase ATM", "Apple Store", "Benefit Brow Bar", "Sam’s Club Tire & Battery", "Geek Squad" So, it's perfectly fine to have both the hotel and restaurant listed. Just be sure you are following the naming convention and that you have a unique phone number for the restaurant and either a unique page on the hotel site for it, or a unique website for it. Does this help?
