  • That's what I figured. What a waste of money. I would hire an internet marketing agency, but since we are an internet marketing agency, it doesn't make much sense for us to hire ourselves to do this.

  • Just to open a discussion, I would imagine that Google will not put a lot of weight into the domain name listed on the places page. They are already looking into exact match domain names and their ranking ahead of others, so I would assume that the same would be places. I know for sure that distance from centroid, number and quality of reviews, and categories of the listing have the most weight in ranking in places or maps. Sorry i don't have a straight answer but thought I would give a point of view? Hope it helped

  • What we're trying to do specifically is use a flash video as a product image, so the size increase will be significant. We're talking somewhere around 1.5 - 2mb on a page that is about 400kb before the video. So the increase is significant. This is why the concern, and why we were thinking perhaps having the flash video inside an iframe might overcome the speed issues. Google often talks about doing the best user experience and the SEO will follow, but the two seem conflicting, as we're trying to provide a better experience with the video, but the increase in page size, and therefore speed, will be significant. The rest of the page will load, including a fallback static image, so we're really trying to understand how to mitigate the page load speed impact of the video.

  • It probably would have been faster to link to this: http://www.seobook.com/googles-matt-cutts-talks-down-keyword-domain-names than tell me to research it, but whatever. I'll link to it for the benefit of others. Thank you for your input, I will take it under advisement and continue to look into this before I speak to my client. watch?v=rAWFv43qubI

  • I would seriously not be concerned about it. If you are a florist and the name of your company is something like "YourName Inc", it would be perfectly fine to add florists. Now, if you add "Same Day Roses Valentines Mothers Day Anniversary Flowers" you might get into some hot water.

  • Well, there we are then. I made this video yesterday, had fun doing it, but I guess that's all it is, just a fun little diversion. Thank you for your candor. I certainly did not expect this to be the cornerstone of our marketing efforts, just hoped it may have some value. Clearly , it does not. Video, like all things in life, takes a lot of work and experience to get good at. Again, I appreciate your feedback. This is why I come to SEOMoz, no B.S..

  • Correct, only have one listing, but list all three categories within your Places listing.

  • Hi there, Tom provided a great bulleted list, however the title of your video is probably one of the most important elements  - not just for indexing but to attract the right viewers. You can see a great summary of video optimization here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/video-seo-basics-whiteboard-friday-11080 Another opportunity is to use video sitemaps. Video sitemaps are similar to regular sitemaps - they provide Google with more information about your videos. It tells Google exactly where and what the video content is on your site and will help it get picked up.You can add duration, and incorporate keywords in the title and descriptions. Compatible video types include: .mpg, .mpeg, .mp4, .mov, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .ra, .ram, .rm, .flv and need to be directly available via HTTP (which means no streaming media). Reel SEO has a great overview Google Video Sitemaps - How to Create a Google Video Site map You can also review more at Webmaster Central: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=80472 I absolutely recommend video sitemaps, especially if you have many on your site. It's really a great way to increase visibility. Good luck!
