  • I have had tons of google places issues over the years. Might be worth posting in the google places forum. Maybe an employee will find your post. http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Places

  • Ryan, Great progress on this. Thanks. Will taking "California" out of the title tag change the local traffic at all? Some of our strongest terms we're ranking for on the home page include the word "California". You already said it should be fine, but could you tell me a little more about how it works so that I can be more knowledgable here. Just so that you know, we have sitelinks for "NLP California". I attached a photo. sitelinks.jpg

  • Because their videos are very popular and they want to generate link juice for the SEOMoz pages, not YouTube.

  • Sorry I can't give you a direct answer. I would suggest running a test. Upload a new one to see if it overwrites old date. The maybe go on to a small group to see how that works. If everything looks good... upload away!

  • haha. I was originally told by a representative that they would spend at least 5 to 7 hours a week on our SEO with a dedicated account manager and that they had 8 people in house to do links, copywriting etc. Then I called the owner of the company. He said "oh no, that isn't right, it is more like 10 hours per month." He wasn't sure why the site packages listed it incorrectly. Then he mentioned that they have a "network" of support - so basically no one in house. He also said " yeah man" a lot. I don't know which is more difficult...doing SEO on my own...or finding a reputable SEO company. Needless to say I am not going with the SEO Godfather.

  • I've had success using DFB on pages that link to my sites.  I have always shied away from blasting anything like this to my main sites.

  • Hi If the video is relevant to the content of the page, there will be no issues with this. I would just ensure there's unique content surrounding the link (or embed) on both pages. If you are linking to an amazing video, hopefully the benefits is that the user will be happy they found your site and share it! This is quite a small issue in the big world of SEO and nothing to really worry about.

  • That's what I thought, but was wondering if I was missing something.  I suppose I'll avoid the embed button since my content should be the best informational videos int he industry (by far). Thanks!

  • Hi Marc, Did the blog post answer your question for you, or are you still looking for a way to segment the traffic?

  • Hello PMC. I've seen you around SEOmoz for the past couple months and I recall your struggles with Google Places. If I may make a suggestion...the SEO world is unfortunately full of a huge variation in quality. I would hesitate to grab anyone based on a nice website. Since you have a large focus on local SEO and Google Places, my recommendation would be to do some google searches on those subjects. Instead of looking for websites, find blog articles and forum posts which cover those topics. Look for someone who repeatedly shares articles on those topics or responds to Q&As. Another though to share is if you find someone you have confidence in but their rates are too high, consider hiring them for just an evaluation of your site and talk about your goals. You may be able to do a lot of the implementation work yourself and save some money that way. Another idea for your business. In Las Vegas there are a lot of show animals. I am unsure if your clinic focuses only on traditional pets or if you are able to service some of the tigers, dolphins and other show animals. It can be great PR to share that you are the official vet for Casino XYZ.

  • I'd also say read the Beginner's Guide to SEO (from SEOmoz). This will help you be able to judge if the people you are looking to hire know what they are talking about or are just telling you whatever they think you want to hear.

  • I just did a measly 14 yesterday. But I'm curious to learn about the batch uploads approval process. How does Google verify and approve these? All manual review? After upload it requires phone and email etc, but then shows a message in the dashboard to 'click request bulk verification' again. I thought i just initiated that? Would it be faster to do all manually, since it's just 14? Do i need to click that link? Thanks... zTibn.png

  • I like your idea of building a landing page specifically for the redirect. Didn't even think about that. I was just concerned that people following old links would be disappointed by landing on a product page or whatever. Totally makes perfect sense though. Thanks for the tip!

  • I wouldn't use spaces in my image names, just because they will get parsed out into "%20", and that will make the URL path longer and uglier. Option B is the better one of the two.  The most important thing to remember here is to just be descriptive.  You're already on the right path. Here are a few great articles on SEO for images.  I think you might find them useful: The Definitive Guide to SEO for Images (ZDnet) Image SEO Basics - Whiteboard Friday (SEOmoz)
