What's the best way to find ranking keywords and phrases?
Hi Nick, SEOmoz tools would be a brilliant start, but you could also use bing webmaster tools which is nice and easy to use. Kyle

Ranking in a specific country
The answer to your question is yes. In fact is something which is already happening in many regional Google. The reasons are simple: the country level domain name of the site; the content in spanish (mexican spanish, to be exact) links from mexican websites

Bulk keyword competition tool?
Hi Adam, I am a big fan of Long Tail Pro for keyword competition research. It allows you to add as many of your own keyword phrases and check the competitiveness, but I find it more useful by putting in 5-10 keyword phrases and then it will use the Google AdWords Keyword Tool to come up with literally thousands of related phrases to analyze by competition and search volume. Click on an individual keyword phrase and you will get a more detailed competitive analysis of the top 10 results in Google. I'm pretty sure there is a free trial but I found it to be one of the most useful SEO tools I have come across in years so it is money well spent. Here is their site - http://www.longtailpro.com/long-tail-pro-software/

Is RankTracker reliable
Thanks Gary. I just happen to have a brand new machine here I could try it out on. If I get the same results, I'll see if I can get SEOMoz themselves to explain it! Chris.

All In One SEO Plugin & Titles
Grace: Arrgh!!! No, no, no...the advice given to you is all wrong! It's generic and outdated. And it's not appropriate for you I know because I am an editor and TV news guy turned "web strategist" and SEO guy. My clients include leading authorities in the nutrition, health, food, and fitness fields. Many are leading authors and experts. Nor will the generic keyword advice you will find in most guides prove to be especially helpful. That's because you have something rare: the ability to create high quality content for both your own site and other sites. There is a pretty easy way through a Wordpress plug in of applying one or two key phrases to each blog post, (past and future) while also picking up the headline of the post (which should be especially written with this in mind.) The meta descriptions should combine general info on your site with specific i nfo on the specific post. I'm not sure what you mean by "attaching key phrases". Are these meta keywords (don't bother) or tags within WordPress designed to bring up similar posts for readers? I agree that it all begins with which keywords you are targeting. It sound to me like you may be dividing your focus. For example, in the SEO title cited, there is no indication of the topic of the blog: Dessert Recipes. You may be getting useless traffic from people who want to buy chocolate cakes from a shop or mail order. And what if I'm not interested in chocolate cakes but pineapple cake? There is no indication the blog may be useful. Feel free to PM me. I have more than enough on my plate on the moment (so to speak!) but would be happy to talk to you on the phone.

Keywords + Country?
Absolutely. I don't know how much work you've done with local SEO, but I'd also consider doing things like citations, Google+ Local pages, etc for each of your store locations. And also create pages for specific country themes - like all the football shirts from France (assuming that's one of your countries).

Keyword with or without stress?
thanks Irving I am targeting to google.com.br, and I also think that would be better to use the stress from a user experience point of view, because it is simply not correct to write portuguese words without stress. But I'm measuring many more researches in google.com.br for keywords without stress. That means that brasilian people use to search words in google without stress. This lead me to think that it would be better from a SEO point of view to use keywords without stress. Any other point for one solution or for the other?

Help finding some decent keywords
My simple advice: Create the best page you possibly can around a few of those topics. Make the page compelling and informative and then see what it ranks for. If you are focused on the basic topic (kayak fishing) the keywords will find their way in naturally. After a bit, you may notice one of the pages ranks well for 'kayak weight limit' and decide to make that a more prominent headline and include the exact phrase when editing. Some content ideas: Essential Gear for Successful Kayak Fishing Top 5 Kayaks for Fishing 8 Tips for The Beginner Kayak Fisherman Rigging Your Kayak for a Day of Fishing Make these pages be awesome. Put some nice pictures in there. Don't make them just because you want to include keywords. Awesome pages will earn shares and links. Helping you eventually rank for more competitive terms such as 'kayak fishing.' In the meantime, you will get quality long-tail traffic that you didn't even try to target.

Keyword Research, Feels like my head is about to explode in 1.2...
I might of answered my own question. Dan Price suggested using HubSpot Videos to learn a little bit about marketing in this post, I've bookmarked it but haven't had a chance to go through it... So in my own search I started going through all my notes, books, videos, and bookmarks. Take a look at this video from hubspot which gives a pretty good example on keyword strategy. I think it cleared everything up for me.

What is the best method to get top 10 ranking ?
I think Matt and David is pretty much right but I will make my own comment on this… For Beginners obviously there is no good place to start then SEOmoz guide to SEO Beginners… But if you have done that step then you have to create your website, links, content and almost everything for user and make sure that you are helping user from your efforts…the more you will do work for user the more people will engage with you and you will be able to get top 10 rankings from your desired key phrases… and no Google animal can kill your rankings over night!

Is there a way to check what keywords a competitor is ranking for?
I agree that this would be a great addition to SEOMoz. Incidentally opened a threat dealing with the same question with some interesting insights: http://www.seomoz.org/q/competitor-keyword-rankings#post-104610

Can i get some insight as to why this is #1 on google?
Thanks Donnie. Yes, I completely believe that the right attitude is what you are talking about above. I guess I am just trying to understand the rhyme and reason to it all because, while I believe in the long term it is not all about SEO, and it is more about the user and their experience (and conversion!), at the end of the day, they are not especially following that motto and yet something is working in a very strong way for them. So while I fully intend to apply the best to my own work, I do want to understand the reasoning in what I am doing or not doing, and the whys of the result I am and will be getting. Basically figuring what the "good" is of what they are doing Somehow it is taking me a while LOL

On-Page optimization for the Long-Tail
Thanks for the reply. Love the regex tools. Going to devote some time to experimenting with them. Generally I don't make it a practice to steal from poor old Peter. But in situations where you have a client opposed to making new pages, or in situations where you have a very high PA page that you want milk for all its worth I wonder about pushing the boundaries. If you can't just borrow from Peter a little bit, do your best to make everything relevant, and optimize for a few extra keywords/phrases rather than the customary 1 or 2 keyword phrases per page.

How to Document Keyword Research?
I use www.keyworkstrategy.org to categorize keywords into as many cats as you wish down to the page and or topic. It's export feature is easy to export new keywords. It has a keyword finder that is quite nice and if you use wordpress it has a companion plugin that provides keyword gathering and internal links of those keywords across all posts and pages selectively. I search for thousands of keywords, prioritize by kei, cost and rank. It's an eco system for keyword management finding new keywords from google analytics searches that reach your site, new posts and a host of other features. It is designed to manage tens of thousands of keywords and in the end help you prioritize your content creation to take advantage of the known keywords that perform for your topics and industry. I use it to help pinpoint the most effective keywords for my industry so that I write about what people are looking for, using their terminology. I know, they say don't write for keywords, write for the user... As an expert in my field, sadly Google is not using my expert knowledge and terminology and helping people find it - I have to meet them half way by knowing what they are looking for and the words they are using to try to find my expertise. Keyword management is super time consuming, but this tool has helped me sort through thousands of keywords, manage them through projects, groups, pages and sites. Now I can find and categorize rapidly now that it is all up and running. Since some of my keywords are good for other sites, I export them to excel and then reimport them into other projects, filtering by selections, tags, kei, cost, occurrence and other helpful indicators. So now I have a keyword specific management system and the ability to use spreadsheets fast and easily too! www.apalytics.com www.cio-tech.com www.synsynack.com Bill Alderson

Image Description & Image Title
Why not have the image title and description correspond with what is in the picture? I believe that if you build a website for your visitors that overtime you will see the best results. You cant ignore SEO but be practical about it.

How do I make sure my homepage ranks better than my 2nd page when I need the same keywords for both? I don't want them competing against each other for keywords.
Rand had a good post on this problem (and it's fairly common) a while back: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/wrong-page-ranking-in-the-results-6-common-causes-5-solutions I think Francisco has a great point, though - from both a search and user perspective, is the page necessary? If it's really covering all the same keywords, it may be telling you that Page B just doesn't have the value you original thought. Generally speaking, though, your home-page is going to have more ranking power. If it's just two pages, the worst that happens is that your home-page outranks Page B, and Page B doesn't get much SEO love. If it's still good for users, that's fine. If you really want Page B to rank, then you may have to examine it's unique value and whether the home-page should be more general or target broader terms (or brand terms) instead.
