  • I thought you were mainly interested in keyword research and not about on-page SEO. In that case, Irving's answer is good. For your title tag, you could also use the lawyer's name to keep it more natural i.e.: "DUI Attorney in Dallas John Doe" or "John Doe DUI Attorney in Dallas TX"

  • HI Angelos, Excel has a Protected View feature which prevents files from the internet from being opened in full view mode. All the Keyword Analysis I have ever downloaded simply required me to "Enable Editing" to manipulate the document. This is usually a ribbon across the top of Excel. You can disable this by going to FILE -> OPTIONS, 1st Pop Up click TRUST CENTER, then Trust Center Settings (button), 2cnd PopUp click Protected View and disable "Enable Protected View for files origination from the Internet". *Note this may effect all Office programs like Word / Access etc.. The only other things I can think causing password protection would be you don't have SEOmoz credits, or there is some security features that an admin has enabled. Alternatively, you can download it as an .CSV file and open it with something else besides Excel. Hope that helps, Don

  • lesser search engines still use it but it can hurt you in google if stuffed. throwing a couple keywords in there is no problem but don't waste time on it.

  • Thanks Irving, How do you optimize a title tag for long tail keywords on an internal category?

  • Yes, if you have a good page rank then you should be able to compete for the most competitive keywords. However, you will need to optimise your site for these keywords correctly.

  • There are sites that allow you to create low level infographics or you can outsource to some freelance designer this will cost you less as compare to hire a designer inhouse. you have to have some budget for it but at the end of the day the results can be great!

  • Hey Peter, Looking at OSE the site in question has "2,781" anchor text links for Zen Cart Skins, but the majority of those are sitewide. There are only 17 unique root domains contributing to that particular anchor text. They are also pointing to http://www.zen-cart-skins.com/ which is 301 redirecting to MCC. What i'd look at and try to reverse engineer is the 78 linking root domains for "computer repair" - the majority of which are blog spam and low quality. With some high quality link building you should be able to overtake him eventually.

  • Many thanks for your answer! We look for the search phrases for selecting the category names, and doing this, we found a lot of possible good categories for the site, but without dupplicate or confusing names. For example: instead of creating a category called: Consoles and Video Games, we use something more specific: video consoles second hand, video games used (actual keywords are in spanish). It is only a small example, that multiplies itself in different cases. Looking at your site, I notice that you decide to use more general categories, and works fine! Nice system in Gumtree! Easy to navigate and good looking. Thanks again for your answer, Daniel

  • I've got the same issue with a client of mine. Their competition is beating them on a lot of searches for their area. The competition site has a link to a 95% duplicate content page for every zip code in the state. Their page are similar to this: Wet Basements in Minneapolis MN 55101 Wet Basements in Minneapolis MN 55102 etc The same content except for city name and zip code are changed out.

  • You are looking at broad match Gordon, I tend to look at the exact term (exact match), you could have terms coming off which are not relevant, which you would almost neg out straight away but anyway that's another thread. Just so you know Google takes the last 12 months of data and averages it, and it's not the exact number of searches either it's rounded. If you put both terms in again, tick both of them and choose 'Download' it will break the search volume down into months for you, you will then see different search volumes for the local search each month. Hope that helped a little.

  • Thanks for that ... the site was redone about 5 months ago so maybe that is the reason for low page rank. Great - like the sound of the SERP dance Will keep up back linking and hopefully stablises at 8! Laura

  • Ok, I think I've got a good outline of what needs to be done. I guess I left out one thing in my question, is that I'm not going to be the one putting together the content. Do you have any suggestions on how to hire or train someone a good content author? Or any good services that I should look into?

  • I've seen similar things happen...what I try to do is one of two things... 1. If I can, I come up with a creative(and natural) way to work both into the title and then work both variations naturally into the content. I don't tend to repeat a string of singulars and plurals in the url. I just pick whichever is the better traffic keyword. 2. If I cant come up with a way to work the singular and plural into the title, I pick whichever is the better of the two options(let's say the singular) and use that one in the title. Then I'll make sure to work the secondary term(the plural) into the content of the page. I'll try to incorporate it into an or tag too if it makes sense. I've seen people saying that Google treated the singular and the plural versions of search terms the same...but I've seen evidence to the contrary in my experience.
