No-follow is still in the works with search engines , and SEOs are still in research phase, of testing whether or not no-follow counts and what it counts for.

The higher up the better. Some times Google doesn't crawl the full page, but definitely starts from top to bottom.  The higher you can get the meat of the content, ie top links, keyword phrases, breadcrumbs, the better!

Thanks Miriam for mentioning the what happens when cancelling Yext article that  Nyagoslav Zhekov has done really good research for us here, even though Yext states that they do not remove listings after cancellation.

Like Miriam said there are ways of going around Yext, but some have switched over to Yext empire including Local.com, and American Towns. Not sure of your specific industry but these directories are generally not in the top 10 most important listings so some of us choose to go for the main listings manually and add others as needed per industry.

If we move will our local rankings drop when someone searches in the city where we were previously? Yes, you will have to do much more work to rank for the previous location, being farther away from it. Google Local prefers to rank you locally. It is easier to move to a competitive area and rank well there and have a spill out effect to rank in low-competition areas. But since you are moving from high competition into low competition it will be more work to rank for that.

Agree with you on this one Phil. Just like in your amazing whiteboard Friday video (that you rocked in btw) There are various types of videos and for many animoto is a very limited solution. Especially if not much thought and quick-fix is what a person is after.

However I kindly disagree, and say that there is a place for animoto, especially for small businesses even in product video. Small businesses have limited resources, and not to say that many cannot afford HDSLRs, and iMovie as it is very very affordable even for small business these days. However, because of the budget limitations, small biz owners need to get creative, and once creativity is unleashed, and time put in; any tool can be a good tool with enough creativity and time. Animoto very limited, in that it just does slideshows, (well videos inside slideshows as well), but it does them well, really well. It might not work for every situation. But you can still showcase a great product, and tell a great story.

In this case you want to do your research first.  Use Google search and see how it reacts to your two keyword phrases as Google is becoming smarter and smarter with things like synonyms.  It might be that both keyword phrases produce same results, if so go with the most correct understanding of the keyword phrase and choose one page. In that case choosing two pages can also split authority of one page if Google interprets those two keywords identically.

It also helps to know the Facebook social audience that you are reaching out two, some appreciate much engagement and feedback others like it in moderation. But generally if you don't participate your doing social wrong.

Folders and directories also aid search engine crawlers with helping them understand your sites structure and hierarchy better, as in many sites this is very appropriate. Also for user experience this can provide help.

Some users with blog type websites have also experienced slow performance with large quantities of pages under the same directory.

Fully agree with Ron. #1 reason = user experience. However breadcrumbs are internal links and are useful because internal links help crawlers get around your site.  Also it helps crawlers understand your sites structure and hierarchy/priority.  Also sometimes Google chooses to display breadcrumbs as a rich snippet type link/benefit.

Thats right if your new IP happens to be in India, or someplace in Eastern Europe like Ukraine, is not really good from accessibility standpoint many IPs from these countries are blocked

Yes stick to one website as you want to grow its authority and if you have two websites you have to cut that authority in half and website authority helps with Local rankings.

On the page you can create separate location pages, Yoast's Local SEO (paid) plugin can help with this.   These will have specific Name, Address, Contact, Info, Hours of Operation devoted to that location.

Now having said that. This is not an ideal situation as customers might not "get-it" two different business names yet one company, they might have questions. Ideal situation would be to have one name for both locations.

Also are you logged in to gmail when you search? How about the location that is set for your search settings?

Are you using any SEO plugin? A plugin like Yoast's Wordpress SEO like Jesse said will help with this

You can go through the listing and check if the description is optimized for the keyword terms that they are going after.  Make sure the categories are correct.  Make sure to get 100% score for the listings. Carefully take note of the Name, Address, Phone, Email, and Website and create listings in Yelp, Bing Local, Citysearch, Yahoo Local, Foursquare, and other relevant directories.  For Google Local rankings having your NAP (Name, Address, Phone, Email, and Website) across the board will really help with ranking.  And just like you have done with Google Places encourage reviews to Yelp, Citysearch, Bing, and Yahoo, etc.
