And just to be clear. There is 1 file for each page serving bot www & non-www version with a 301 redirect pointing all requests to the non-www URL.

The rel canonical is in every file so search engines will see the rel canonical on every request.

I'm thinking this MUST have some effect on the site. What to you think?

Thanks for the reply. I've been working on "on page" stuff for the last month for a site and noticed that I'm getting no improvement at all in ranking.

This is very unusual I think.

The tech guys on the site are 301'ing to the non-www site AND have placed a re canonical to the non-www version too.

My thought are to have the rel canonical removed as there is a 301 (.htaccess) in place.

I have a site that has been developed to default to the non-www version. However each page has a rel canonical to the non-www version too.

Could having this in place on all pages hurt the site in terms of search engines?

I'm not seing any of that.  The most I've seen are 2 URLS.  What are you using the detect broken links?

I figured it'd be worth the time writing your own content so i've been doing that although have tried out a couple of links with their writers.

You're right the quality is on the low side.

Thanks for the pointer to the seomoz link directory. I'm OK with on site but link building is new to me so I'm just feeling my way.

I'm just starting to try our "BuildMyRank" for link building. Do you have any experience of that. Is it worth using?

Thanks for the reply.

I've made changes over a few weeks in small batches.  It's a new site so all the pages needed Title and a boit of content focus.

Backlinks may well be holding us back, so we've started that process although the competition aren't looking that great either. It should be easier than this !!

We'll continue to build links and update the content for keyword focus.

I've been tweaking a Wordpress little by little over the last 3 to 4 weeks but I'm making no progress in the rankings for my keywords.

All keywords are still reporting >50 in the SEOMOZ Campaign.

Here's the clients pet keyword:

"Sailing in Scotland"  www.capriceyachtcharter.co.uk

The site is indexed and shows IF I search for the company name "Caprice Yacht Charter"

What am I missing?

Hi,

I've added a campaign to my account with the first crawl taking around a week. The 2nd crawl started 3days 17 hours ago and si still running.

Is this something that others have experienced?

The campaign is tracking 5 keywords and have 17 pages on the site.

Thanks for your advice.  I've been offered link building by "Smart Traffic" in the UK.  Any experience of these guys?

I know that link building is one of the more important tools for great ranking and know that "paid links" may hurt a sites ranking.

How do I know if a company offering link building will be classified as "paid links"
