Don't ask me about my grammar
I am much more familiar with the english language. But it was fun to answer once in french.
Salut Neill,
I have the same problem here in Austria
Perhaps there you find some valuable directories:
It's not that Google does not like that - Google just suggest not to use duplicate titles. It is not the best for the user experience as well es for the not optimized pages - for what ever reason they are not optimized :-). Titles are an important for seo, usability and they appear in the search snippets, so they have there in important role to play, too.
But it has not a negative effect on the optimized pages.
Sometimes we handle such small websites, too, and yes we do get good SEO results. Of course not with high competitive keywords - this would be kind of "David against Goliath".
Just take care that your on-page optimization is done well. If you can build up some backlinks, social media presence, social media mentions etc. - the more the better of course.
Hi Daniel,
If you click the submit button in you Google Places account, Google makes the call right away - should "normally" be no big deal. I made the experience though, that sometimes the customers are overburden with that phone call option, that's why I mostly take that postcard option. It can definetifly be up to one month or 5 weeks if they get the card. I just tell the customer several times that they have to look at their mail very properly because this post card with the pincode is very very unimpressive.
In the Google Places profile is the address and phone nr° of the business location - so you only have the chance to verify it by yourself if you are present when the phone call or the sms from Google comes in.
I strongly suggest keeping the german url's on the german domain, too.
For usability and for seo purpose.
The Germans won't search for the english terms and text - so it is kind of useless, too.
If you don't have the possibility to translate your whole website and you want to add those pages where you don't have any translation put at least a GERMAN url on the page. Then you can explain in short terms that this page is only existing in english language and refer them to the english dependant - or even put in the Google translation widget (but we all know that this is not a perfect translation at all, but better than nothing).
Hi Francisco,
you meant the traffic to the website is only measured by Google Analytics, right?
A conversion rate of 32,4 % is very, very rare. Even for a non e-commerce website.
It is hard to tell more about that rate of that website because we don't know the layout, n° of pages etc.
What seems to me more important is, if that high rate leads to profitable leads - of course depending on the goals they set.
E.g. does one third of the website visitors buy a product or "only" ask for a brochure?
Additionally to usability and seo purpose you can let them change the term "search" in the url - they have the english word in all three languages - perhaps they can change it to "vacance", "urlaub" and "holiday".
For link building purpose I strongly suggest the Link Research Tools http://www.linkresearchtools.com/
Let me explain what I want to know:
Somebody searches e.g. for a hotel on his mobile phone. Do the search engines rank websites with special mobile pages better than others? I am not considering the local factor here (let's say there are hotels nearby with or without mobile websites).
If not, is there a trend for that?
Does anyone have some datas / examples / experience about that?
Do you see their usage in usability and / or regarding SEO?
What about the position? Normally they are embeded in the top area ... what if I have a really long page and I embed them at the bottom of the page. Isn't that positive for the user - he doesn't have to scroll up again. But what about the SEO purpose if they are at the botton in the nirvana?
Are breadcrumbs navigational links and have less value because of that?
Hi Casey - I can't click any more "Helpful" answer - but I like this one most! That is definetifely true!!
Most of our clients are not interested in theory and numbers. They just want to see better results, rankings, ROI ....
For a small number we explain the metrics with examples of authority websites and small personal websites - like that they understand it well.
Don't take that question too serious but all answers are welcome
Answer to all:
"Gentlemen, I see you did you best - at least I hope so! But after all I suppose I am stuck here to go on reading the SEOmoz blog if I can't sqeeze more secrets from you!
lol - yes the resamblance is remarkable! That's the name of my boss :-).
It would be interesting if there were 2 exact same websites with just minor differences which causes some validation issues ... if the one without "faults" would rank better.
I think I even remember that Matt Cutts once said that this is not a ranking factor. Even if you put in google.com in the validator - you get several faults.
The "normal" person who looks at the webpage doesn't care either which faults are indicated in the background. So whom should I please with a w3c.org clean website? I suppose "just" to have a proper webpage....
Do you consider the guidelines from http://validator.w3.org/ when setting up a new website?
As far as I know they don't influence rankings ... What is your opinion about that topix?
There are tons of other issues to think about - I would suggest to make a research on that topix on that blog http://yoast.com/cat/seo/ - there you will find answers to several issues you should think about.
Can you define what exactely you have done when you optimized the images? Right now I see no coherance between image optimization and link juice / PA ...
