Why are crawlers not picking up these pages?
Hi, I would think it is the javascript being used on the pages (google can theoretically render the page as a browser would, screaming frog and other similar tools on the whole cannot). If you visit the homepage with js turned off then you see a pretty empty page with a list of links (region, activity, country) which are the same links that screaming frog is picking up. If you go into one of the search results pages with js turned off, you don't really see much of anything at all. Google is obviously doing a better job of crawling the js content! A solution would be to present the data in a simpler, crawlable format for non js enabled browsers but that is (probably a big) conversation with your developers

Duplicate content across English-speaking ccTLDs
Hi Peasoup, I would surely advice to not simply copy the content to the 4 different domains. I have a few good links for you: https://moz.com/learn/seo/cctlds more info on ccTld's https://moz.com/community/q/duplicate-content-on-multinational-sites Exactly your issue: make sure you read the comment of Gianluca Fiorelli. Client Worried About SEO Decline After Site Redesign
Do not worry about your keyword ratio just worry about creating high-quality content with somebody that has much better grammar and writing abilities and I. (I use Grammarly or dictate to a coworker when posting on a client's site.) https://www.deepcrawl.com/knowledge/best-practice/test-development-changes/ https://www.deepcrawl.com/knowledge/tag/website-architecture/ here are no fewer than five ways to test changes before they even go live and have any impact on performance: Test site vs Live site: crawl a staging site and compare it to the live one Test robots.txt changes Test a new XML Sitemap Crawl the site with modified URLs Test the impact of removing parameters now if you are rebuilding use HTTPS it is not a powerful ranking symbol now however it is very smart to pull off to Band-Aids at once https://www.deepcrawl.com/knowledge/best-practice/the-zen-guide-to-https-configuration/ https://www.deepcrawl.com/knowledge/news/https-when-to-act/ if you add HTTPS via HTTP/2 or cloudflare do not set HSTS for more than a couple days when setting up the site. https://moz.com/blog/http2-a-fast-secure-bedrock-for-the-future-of-seo USE https://blog.cloudflare.com/enforce-web-policy-with-hypertext-strict-transport-security-hsts/ HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), which could also help with speed issues on HTTPS. How to explain to a client that duplicate content is bad...
The client will not remove the content until we have new content ready to go. He will not leave these pages blank, despite our advice that no content is much, much better than duplicated/plagiarised content. We don't have the resource to write all this content within a short space of time, so we're going to have to run the risk of a penalty as the client is not budging on this.

H Tags Query
I don't see a big deal on length from an H2 point of view. I often have that many H2s and many H3s. The bigger deal is whether the copy is adding any value to the page. Don't fret about the <h?>markup outside of the core H1 of the page.</h?> I'd be more concerned if formatting is ugly or confusing, or inconsistent. You can also edit the CSS and HTML to turn Subtitle goes here into Subtitle goes here and retain visual formatting identical to how it looks currently. This is the proper way to separate formatting from the semantic markup of the page (headings, in this situation).

Ecommerce filter views, URLs and the SEO implications
You can set up Canonical tags in your template. Usually the default is to canonical the page's URL, but if you create the canonical tag to the main page, you should be ok. It will help reduce duplicate content and tell google that you want them to pay attention to the content and structure of your main page. I would also set parameters in GWT, this will help reduce errors, like 404 errors if product options change in the future. When you are using dynamic URL structure like this, it also helps Google understand and read them better. I would implement both of these changes. Depending on what platform you are in, you should be able to export the URLs to easily import the canonical tags.

Spammy nofollow links
Ah sorry, I misunderstood Louis - skim reading too quickly! No, don't bother if it is a nofollow link as this is essentially what Google does to a dofollow one. Apologies for the confusion. -Andy

Robots.txt - "File does not appear to be valid"
Thanks for the quick response, Patrick. Why, if this robots.txt file is incorrect, does it yield no errors on other sites we use this on? Cheers, Lewis

Trailing Slashes and SEO
That's true, and you may be right. But as ignorant as I am, it's the very first time I read url slashes canonicalization is not best practice. And I truly mean you are probably right, but yet I would like to see some piece of proof, like a video of Matt Cutts, an article on searchenginejournal, or something, before to call what was once considered best practice dead and buried.

Asking a site to remove a "nofollow" on a link to our client
Hey Lewis, If they'd used your infographic without credit or attributed credit elsewhere then you'd absolutely be within your rights to ask for attribution. However in this instance as they've given you the appropriate credit there's nothing you can do (whether the link is no-followed or not). Whilst clearly a followed link would be great I'd strongly advise that you don't pursue this aggressively. You've not said whether or not they routinely no-follow all outbound links on the site but this may just be their policy. Moreover you really don't want to end up upsetting or alienating what could be a great contact in the future. This is still definitely a win

Responsive Code Creating Duplicate Content Issue
Yes. That's a good sign. GWT Fetch and Render would also show you how it's being handled. From your example you've definitely got multiple H2 tags as you're using them to subtitle subsections of the page, but none of them are duplicating. This seems to fall in line with Google's own practice: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.mx/2010/03/googles-seo-report-card.html (an example of them looking at their own site). Cheers!

Company FB Page Automatically Friend-Requesting Admins' Contacts
Hi all, Like I say, I was added as admin and I didn't even access the account and all my personal FB friends were sent friend requests. The only thing I did was check on my phone and read a notification to let me know I'd been added as admin. We don't have any third party apps running, and we can't locate any type of settings that would allow FB to automatically friend request all of the admins' contacts. Weird.

How Effective Are Links Between The Same Company's Websites With Different Domain Extensions?
Theoretically this is not a good strategy because the value of these links are minimal compared to links to domains hosted on other servers in different places. There is no technical penalty for this unless you are over abusing the quantity of links, but, the value of the links is extremely low.
