I have a page that I took down a while ago, but it's ranking on the first page for it's key word, and displaying a 404 :(
I didn't know about that remove functionality—you learn something new every day. The point about internal links to the 404 page is a good one. Having those links sends Google mixed messages and could be a reason for a 404 page not to drop out of the index.

Can you suggest a good website for a roofing contractor??
Thank you for your help with this! I've only ever built one site using WordPress though - and that was for me & it didn't need to rank. It's a small company I'm doing this for, and their keywords aren't too difficult to rank for. But none the less, I want to choose the best option for them. Is there any coding involved in using these themes? I can code a little but not a lot. Any more light you can shine on it would be greatly appreciated.

Why can I not add Schema Mark up to my homepage?
Hi MissThumann, You've asked a good question, and I reached out to GetFiveStars' co-founder to be sure you were getting a good answer. Mike Blumenthal let me know that while you can add the GetFiveStars widget to the homepage, Google won't show the stars, and because of this, it's not really a recommended practice to use this widget on your homepage. That being said, you could definitely add it to any other page of the website. He also let me know that the widget includes business/org details in addition to aggregate reviews and a link to the testimonial page, so your webmaster does need to make sure there is no conflicting schema on any page you might add the widget to. It was very nice of Mike to get back to me so speedily, and I would encourage you to be sure you are making use of GetFiveStars' support options to be sure you're using their product to its maximum potential. Mike mentioned he has a draft manual he'd be happy to share with you if you reach out to the company's support.Hope this helps!

Which Meta Description Tool is the best??
I use the SEO quake chrome plugin to check meta tags...and a lot of other things. I can't say how accurate it is, though. Matt

Does having 3 city's in my Title Tag help or hurt me?
I agree. This is going to make the title tags too long. Instead build out individual service pages for each location so you can include the city in the title tag of each of those pages.

If I use schema markup for my google reviews, would it be smart to have Google review's on my home page?
Hi BlueCorona, How you doin? I would like to ask you a question, I am wondering if I can integrate my google ratings to my homepage using schema scripts. That being said, my plan is to include the numerical ratings through AggregateRating and hopefully be displayed on Google's SERP when someone searches for my website. Since you mentioned that we can feature the said overall ratings. What would that link be? Should the link be visible on the Homepage itself? Example: "See all reviews" (This will be the anchor text pointing to our google profile placed somewhere in our homepage). *** OR *** Should the link be included on the schema script only. Let's say it will be included on the RelatedLink or SameAs property. Looking forward for your insights. Thank you and have a nice day!

Is it possible to rank a second site, for my buisness, for the same location?
I have had clients request to build two sites at once, launch them, and see which one is favored more in Google's eyes. Same thing with individual pages-- "G" seems to like one and bury the other. Building one on the side when the existing site is already indexed is probably going to be a risky venture.

Why is my image Alt Text showing up under my URL and title on the Google results page?
Hey MissThumann, there is no good way to tell Google not to include a specific alt text. You could move the image down lower on the page to the second paragraph if you need to keep that specific image and alt text. Otherwise, I would suggest that you change the alt text to something better that works in your search description or to remove it entirely and just leave the alt tag empty (alt=""). Hope this helps!

Google loves me. Yahoo and Bing not so much...
Hi MissThumann, Wouldn't it be nice if they could just tell us what we all need to do to rank well? #wishfulthinking As you probably know the ranking factors are not appreciably different for Bing/Yahoo than for Google, but you will always see some disparity between them. Based on this, I suggest that you make sure you are as diligent with your Bing Business Listing as you are with Google. We tend to put a major focus on Google, but ensuring that your Bing Business Listing is verified and filled out completely is an important starting point. That will assist you in locally ranking for Bing queries. Otherwise, look at those ranking ahead of you and see what they are doing you are not, then see if you can manipulate a page to rise in the rankings. If you aren't try using Bing Webmaster Tools so you can find better insights into which pages are getting traffic through Bing and which aren't so you can determine which pages might need the content tweaked for Bing. Like Julie suggested, find out how important it really is for this website to be ranking on Bing (or Yahoo). Do these search engines bring in enough traffic for you to devote a lot of time trying to decode the algorithm? Or are you better off putting most of your eggs in one basket with Google? Good luck!

Is it ok to have two blogs for my website?
Hi Miss Thumann, One thing to be careful of when creating a second blog site is competition against your existing site. If you plan on using pages on this new site with content that is similar to or identical to the existing site, then you will only be competing against yourself for rankings. So if you would like to create a second blog, then I would HIGHLY suggest targeting different key words then you used the first time around

Will this have any effect on my rankings?
Just to expand, it may also have an ever so slightly increase on page load time, as the browser tries to download this file. (probably only about 10-50ms or so), so if you can't remove it then it's not really a major concern.

Website pages for different cities
I think the answer is in the last part you said - making it useful for the reader. If you make a legitimately useful piece of content, then I would always say go for it. A good example is a brand with multiple stores, where it absolutely makes sense to create a unique page about each location. This page would include information about the store, parking, directions to the store, selection of products, employees, some information about the town, etc. If you're making the page just because you want to rank for "keyword + town" on the other hand, then I would probably think twice, before doing it. You would simply be creating thin content, which could potentially piss off both the panda and give your users a bad experience on your site.
