Roger is not available for hugs at the moment. Many people don't realize that he is currently undergoing treatment for his addiction to Big Data. It is a serious problem, but he believes that with everyone's support, he will be able to come out on top. Let's all keep Roger and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

RE: Manual and algorithm ban
Hello Paul,
Here is a great blog post by Marie Haynes, that gives you everything you could possibly need to know about the difference between an algo penalty and a manual penalty. Might as well not have to reinvent the wheel.
I hope that helps!

RE: What Should I Do With Low Quality Content?
I think that it all depends on how bad the content is. If you have content that is complete and total crap (10+ instances of the same keyword, reads like a toddler wrote it, etc.), it is better just to kill it and redirect your pages elsewhere. On the other hand, if the content is salvageable, then take the time to re-write it and make it good. The benefit of this is that at the end of the day you have good content instead of a bunch of links re-directed to pages that don't necessarily have anything to do with the old content.
Good luck!
P.S. Don't forget the disavow tool if you need it!

RE: What Should I Do With Low Quality Content?
There is absolutely nothing wrong with multiple 301's pointing to the same page.

RE: Backlinks From Scraper Sites - Should I Disavow Them?
If a link is not beneficial to your site and if you are worried about whether or not it will hurt you, there is no reason you shouldn't disavow that link. I would recommend that you are disavowing the entire domain rather than each link one by one. It will save you time and will prevent any further weirdness from happening on that specific domain.
Disavowing links can be tedious and annoying, but the whole concept of "better safe than sorry" comes into play here hardcore. An intern would be extremely useful in this situation.

RE: How much Page Authority passes?
There are so many factors that go into play when figuring out how much a certain link will benefit your SEO. I wouldn't look to quantify it if I was you. Just be happy that your friend shared some link love. Maybe you should buy him a Coke!

RE: What should I look for when choosing a good article directory for SEO purposes?
I couldn't agree with this more. The whole concept of "if you build it they will come" doesn't work 99% of the time. A good content strategy requires a good social strategy. They work hand in hand.
Well said Chris!

RE: Why are these pages considered duplicate content?
These pages aren't duplicate at all. I wouldn't worry about it. The SEOmoz crawl tool isn't perfect and you can rest assured that Google won't consider these pages duplicate content.
You owe me a Coke.

RE: How to find average organic traffic growth rate for ecommerce startup?
Trying to forecast organic growth will be extremely difficult to do. It really depends on what they have been doing as compared to what you are planning to do for them.
Have they been conducting content marketing?
Have they been heavily involved in social?
Have they been creating local citations?
Have they... etc. etc. etc.
I'm not saying that you should pull a number out of your ass, but conservatively estimating that you will be able to drive a 20% increase to their organic traffic should be easy to hit, especially if they haven't been doing a lot of what they should have been (see above). If you can't get their traffic up by 20% in a year, they should fire you anyways. Anything about that will make you look like a rock star.

RE: Why Google doesn't want to show our images?
It looks good to me. I did a image search for your alt tags and found your images.
Articulated Video Borescope - several of your images are showing.
Also check this out: site:http://www.fiberscope.net (Image Search)
You are looking golden!

RE: Pontoon boats rankings...stumped
Look at your link profile as compared to Avalon. Avalon has a really clean Link Profile while a large portion of your links are suspect. You have links on link farms (boatlinks.com, http://zicosur.org/, and bcm.ru) and other domains that have nothing to do with your brand. Also, you have a ton of exact match anchor text links and I mean a TON. Also watch your keyword stuffing (you say Pontoon Boat 10 times on your landing page)
Overall, I wouldn't be overly concerned. Google does a lot of testing. Next week you might be back up to number 2. That being said, I would definitely work on your link profile.
I hope that helps!

RE: Site Explorer Results - Linking Domains Tab
It means that each one of those domains have that many root domains linking to them.
Opera.com has 205,515 root domains linking to them.
Does that make sense?

RE: Page not ranking, Help!
Keyword load much? You literally have "Tonneau Covers" mentioned on your page 65 times. Seriously?! If you want to know why Google has slammed you for that keyword, you might want to start there.
Your back links are also awful. Your getting links from link farms as well as from websites that don't have anything to do with your products.
Sorry for the bad news, but you have a ton of work to do.

RE: Duplicate page titles
Wow, that is annoying! A simple solution would be to use a SEO page title module/widget (sorry, I'm not familiar with Joomla, but I'm sure they have one) and add page numbers.
Example: ... Reviews Page One, ... Reviews Page Two, etc.
I had an old site with this same problem on a photo gallery and it solved that issue.
I hope that helps!

RE: Why is my site not ranking?
There can be several reasons why your site isn't ranking. Without knowing what your URL is and which keywords you are wanting to rank for, there is no real reason to even try to answer this question. Do you have content that is relevant for the search terms you are looking for? Have you checked to make sure that you don't have garbage links (I know you said that you don't engage in black hat SEO). Let's start with those and then we can move forward.

RE: Someone not removing a link to our site
Good news! Both Google and Bing both have a disavow link tool:
Google:

Bing:

RE: Local Link Building help!
I think that an obvious place to start would be local professional organization websites. Many of them have a member’s area that will have a small blurb about the member and hopefully a link. Another idea is business organizations like the chamber of commerce, etc. Hopefully if your clients are creating good content and are able to push that content out (using social and email marketing) those links will happen organically. Just remember…if they build good content…the links will come!

RE: To Follow or Not To Follow...... ?
It really depends on what they want. If your client does not want the search engines to index their site (for whatever reason) than that is correct. I am at a loss as to why they would do that. Tell the "IT" guy that no search engine will lists you guys with this tag on every page. I understand some pages should not be indexed, but an entire site seems counter intuitive. Why would someone want a website if they don't want to be found? It sounds like someone who thinks they know something when they obviously do not.
Tell them to switch all their tags to:
