Honestly, just by doing my stuff I do for Google, all my words rank super high in Bing. It just happens there. They seem to also stick much better in Bing, very little movement once I am at the top.

RE: Gained Links but MozRank drops. Why?
Such a quick increase in links could mean spammy/low quality links or the ratio of follow/don't follow went awry and that would also decrease it.
In SEO it isn't as black and white as more links == better.

RE: Block Low Quality Pages?
If they are of no value to anybody, I'd just block them.

RE: Yahoo & Bing Merger
These could be legacy results for Yahoo. They are using Bing for a while now, I believe. Do your Yahoo rankings change at all, or are they just sitting there for any amount of time.

RE: New server update + wrong robots.txt = lost SERP rankings
If this is all that happened the next crawl should fix it. Just sit tight and they should bounce up again in a week or so.

RE: Why Post Useless Blog Comments
Yup it's spambots like xrumer or w/e there is. Blackhatters tend to blast out like 10k links at once of which most won't get approved. It's quite annoying. Every WP blog I started so far was getting buried in these. Thank god for anti-spam widgets.

RE: Website Translation
Chrome takes care of that pretty well. I am not aware of any widgets per se. I assume you are looking to install this on your website, right?

RE: What website CMS system would you suggest?
Wordpress or Joomla strike me as the obvious choices. Both are free and really easy to use.

RE: Are links from flash sites worth anything?
If the link is embedded in the Flash part of the website, Google will have a hard time indexing it so most likely you will not get much out of it sadly. Flash components appear as a big nothing to the crawler.

RE: Is the Open Site Explorer Tool working right now?
Make sure you log-in on top of it. It worked for me just a moment ago.

RE: Blogs that Thank Their Sponsors in a Blog Post
I doubt Google can algorithmically filter this out in an easy way and probably won't do it manually. As long as the blog has content normally and only does that occasionally I don't see how it would be a problem.

RE: Should we be bracing ourselves for a YSE to OSE mass migration?
SEO just did or is about to hit mainstream. Many more people know what SEO is and try their luck at it than even a year ago. So far OSE is holding up fine, and I don't see how that would change. I do not foresee a sudden explosion in use. (Unless Apple decides to put it into the iPhone, then people will use it, no matter if they need it or not)

RE: Embracing Piracy...
Alan,
I think you misunderstand the situation, they don't seem to be stealing content, but actual products.
You could try the approach you suggested, but be ready to be 'ripped apart' by a mostly malicious community on this kind of pages. They usually do not take lightly to outsiders.
If you want to stop piracy, I assume contacting the admins for removal and filing DMCA claims would be the way to go.

RE: Rogerbot Ignoring Robots.txt?
Try
Disallow: /PhotoGallery.asp
I put wild cards all over usually just to be sure and had no issues so far.

RE: SEOmoz crawl error questions
I wish there was a nicer solution to that, but that's the least painful way.

RE: SEOmoz crawl error questions
These member profiles etc cause a lot of problems. I just restricted the crawler from forums/*/members and it fixed A LOT of problems. I don't see value in Google having access to the members list on the forums and it is a common 'blackhat' technique to sneak links into profiles on forums.

RE: Page URL Hiearchy
The second format looks blatantly like SEO-'phishing' and I would not go to a website like that. Having the spaces in there could also cause some serious issues. You can always have the final destination being verbose:
MountainBiking.com/adventures/mountainbikingadventuresinwhistler
Although this looks crappy again. I think just having all these in your domain will be enough, so go with the clean, compact format, for your visitor's sake.

RE: Dramatic ranking shifts
I experience exactly the same, often keyword go up and down by 1-2 every other day until they suddenly leap up 10 or so and then drop 2-3 where they stay. Your theories both make sense and it might be just that the crawl gets to your site and does an in-depth 'scan' of everything.

RE: Should I bother with branded keywords in my onsite SEO improvements?
The way I handled it is to have the brand in the root domain and wherever it fit at the end. Otherwise, I used non-branded keywords primarily as organic links generally will give you branded anchor text rather than keywords. You don't want to completely neglect the brand name, but it tends to build itself much more than other keywords.

URL Structure Question
Hey folks,
I have a weird problem and currently no idea how to fix it. We have a lot of pages showing up as duplicates although they are the same page, the only difference is the url structure. They seem to show up like:
http://www.example.com/page/andhttp://www.example.com/pageWhat would I need to do to force the URLs into one format or the other to avoid having that one page counting as two? The same issue pops up with upper and lower case:
http://www.example.com/Pageandhttp://www.example.com/pageIs there any solution to this or would I need to forward them with 301s or similar?
Thanks,
Mike
