Thanx, Leonie.

Hi, you probably made a mistake in the .htaccess this will trow a 500 server error.
did you made a backup of the .htaccess
otherwise remove the .htaccess an check if you still get a 500 error?
this is how you add a 301 redirect in .htaccess
Redirect 301 /old/file.html http://www.domainname.com/new.html
Hi Bradjn, With duplicate content i would go for the use of canonicals. Give the original page and its duplicates the same cannonical url, so searchengines will know what's the original and (most of the time) won't see it as duplicate.
Here some more about duplicate content and also canonicals: http://moz.com/learn/seo/duplicate-content
I can't give you a good answer about using noindex or this wil be a positive change. Did you check in webmastertools about duplicates? or only MOZ?

Hi, If you click on the link: open site explorer and fill in an URL, there opens a navigation of Open site explorer on the left top there you can find the functionality. Link metrics ( i guess that's what you mean by compare competitors) is shown there.

Hi, still one more thing, because you sound loss, and that's not the meaning of this Q&A. Contact the forumservice and ask for the canonical, this is a very simple and common thing to do.
Seo stuff is'nt that difficult, though it can be comlicated
Anyway I wish you luck with the forum and hope you'll manage to get it the way you wanted.

Lol, tha'ts also an option
under url's index, though they have to be removed first, otherwise google crawl them again. but there you can remove complete directories at once.
Ah okay, that will be difficult than.
Maybe you can ask them to implement the canonical url. It will be helpful for you to avoid duplicates
Hi Lee,
What kind of CMS are you using?
In wmt under parameters you can configure parameters. If the ur's contain the same parameter it is a posibility.
Hi Lee,
I'm not very familiar with forums. but i think you can solve it by putting a canonical in the head.
If you have a main page, which is the post, put a canonical url in it:
the duplicate pages need to have the same canonical.
I hope this work for you.

yes then, what i wrote i my first message use a forwarding or redirect (what suits you best) will do the trick
i personaly would go for a forwarding in the nameserver at your hostingprovider. Very clean no need to setup a .htacces. on the server of newdomain.
Goodluck!
Leonie
Hi, it's allowed to make redirects or domain forwarding. You can forward the new domain to a specific page of your old domain. You will not change the old url.
With redirecting or forwarding the new to the old, the old url will be visible.
do you also want google index your new domain?
Grtz, Leonie
Hi, You can forward your new domain to your old domain. This can be done at your webhost. Depending on your webhost you can do it yousrself or just ask them to do it.
When people surf to your www.newdomain.com they will go to www.olddomain.com.
Or you can use a 301 redirect if you like:
To use a 301 redirect put the following code in your .htacces on the server of the new domain:
Redirect 301 /http://www.olddomain.com

Hi, I'm dealing the same thing, and the truth, i just ignore this message. Like your page, i need the on page links, otherwise i can stop the business. Unfortunately you can not always satisfy the google requirements.
Well this is not a good advice, i realize that, but just something i recognize and how I act.
Grtz, Leonie
Hi, This is a good one. The description showing in the serp's is depended on the keyword people are looking for, the metadescription and the content on the page.
Google decides what best fits to the keyword. If the metadescription fits in, Google will show that. if not, Google will search the content for that fits best at the keyword in the search.
In your screens you search for little wannahaves, but in your description there is no use of "little wannahaves"
so google is searching your content for a match with "little wannahaves"
put little wannahaves in your description. I also advice you to shorten your description tot 150 characters.

Hi, Arthur
image-slider pro ( WP) you can add image alt & titles.
For Joomla modules i'm not sure, but you can go to; http://extensions.joomla.org/ and check the different slider modules and look if they have the possibility for image alt & title tags.
Goodluck!

Hi Tjr, I'm also curious about that, but can't find anything, that sitelinksearchbox improve the SEO ranking, by adding the searchbox. schema.org to your site.
I think it will increase you're ctr and by that you can gain ranking, but the tool itselfs i doubt that.
The thing i like about it, that you can send searches direct to your site, so you get rid of you'r competitors as soon people use your sitelink search. on the other site, you can only see the searchbox by google-ing a brand name. so people already are interested in the brand
Hi, you don't need to upload the images again, you can add the alt tag, and if needed, other data to the code.

Hi, I agree with The Zen Agency and SEOwoody, responsive is the best way to go. Maybe it take some more time to set it all up, but the advantage you'll have when it's done and also, manage afterwards of one website is worth much more.
Goodluck! Leonie
Hi, Google has implemented the sitelinksearchbox. On one of my sites i have the results now when you search on brand name. Now i see at amazon.com if you use the searchlink box you directly go to the website of Amazon. I can't figure out how they did this. Can someone help me out?
Thanx, Leonie
