I would Agree with Moosa - Be careful because you may end up with it not ranking what so ever. People may be finding your slide shows through the site and not necessarily via rankings. I would recommend trying to get a link back to your site or even a link in the deck pointing to your site so even if a user finds it they can still get back to you and its not lost revenue (though you won't necessarily get a seo benefit unfortunately)

Remember Slideshare is an authoritative site if you strip[ it out can you compete ?

I'm afraid you are in the same boat as the rest of us of guess work. I tend to assume they have disavowed the low end stuff but there is no way of knowing I'm afraid sorry.+

If in doubt reverse your roll think if you would disavow it assume they have.

Is it a temp redirect ? If you're planning on move permanently you may want to think about 301ing the whole site to its relevant counter parts. a Direct Link is good for building up some authority and slowly migrating the site over time making sure each stage goes to plan rather than 301 the whole thing and panic if something goes wrong.  It really boils down to your longer term goal.

As Patrick Mentioned there is no clear one thing to do, i would recommend running your site through screaming frog or looking into crawl errors with Moz and make sure your site is optimized.. ensure that all relevant tags are filled and optimized.. You'd be surprised how much of a difference it can make.

A 301 is telling Search engines (and any links) that this link or site has moved permanently, this would then mean the value of the links would be moved to the new location. A link would imply the site is staying and a % of link juice would flow though it compared to more through a 301.  Other problem could be you may have duplicate content if your moving the domain.

If you do get a 301 done make sure they don't just 301 it all to the homepage it should be moved each category moved to its counter part (or as close to) as possible to maintain the transfer of authority & juice.

if you have a /sitemap.xml file you shouldn't need an html one unless you find users are using it and finding it helpful.

Wordpress has the capability to do so much more than be a blog, its like saying a car is only for getting you from a to b whilst technically true there is more to it. If you don't like wordpress don't use it, use a format that gives you passion if you really enjoying coding etc. then do that it will come across better and the more passion you put into a site the better it normally is. Wordpress tends to have more plugins to help with SEO which is why it might seem better but isn't anything you can't get on a normal site.

TL;DR

Use a format you know inside and out and can work well with and you will get better results, Wordpress has lots of plugins that can help which is why it might look good.

Have you referenced the article or published the whole article? If you've referenced it I'd recommend a follow link more than a canonical link as the canonical would mean all seo benefit goes to the other website (which is fine and well deserved if you've just copied the article) but if you've just referenced it ore even expanded on it I'd reference the blog and all credit to it but not have a canonical link to ensure you maintain some level or link juice on your website.

It also depends on your software if your using word press you can change urls and it would change overtime.

If its different DragonSearch gave some excellent advice to 301 to a new URL. You would not need to tell Google or do Fetch as Google as when it next crawls it would detect the change. If you want to speed up the process you can post the new url into say Google plus etc.

Go to settings > Permalink > Select what you want.

WordPress will do all the hard work for you and Google will re-crawl your site (this can take time depending on the popularity of your site).

As far as i remember Moz isn't so hot on detecting canonical links and/or pagination both of which are on your site. These essentially will Stop the duplicate content that you think you are seeing so don't panic. If we're getting more technical canonical and pagination shouldn't be on the same page really but worst case one is ignored so no need to panic.

TL:DR - Moz doesn't dismiss errors like the above based on pagination / canonical so you can ignore it as you have these implemented (can you even see these if you export a report (.CSV)

To clarify some other bits as I'm aware what your thought process is. I want you to firstly remember DA,Trust flow etc. etc. is just a measure and isn't Google, Google is aware of domain transfers and/or content changes on a domain. This means Google can/will change the 'value' of the domains when brought and used. Now for a simpler tool like Moz which just looks at links etc. (Moz is more complicated than this I'm just simplifying) it will still see the links and not so much the change of ownership/content etc. meaning it won't reflect some of the above.

Bare the in mind.

Yes wordpress should do that, it wouldn't hurt to update the urls if you can though

It's always a challenge to diagnose and really comes down to a theory so I'm happy to give you mine! First off: it's not going to be due to your robots, sitemap and htaccess etc. unless you've blocked it but it seems you've not!

What it will most likely be is link profile and content. Google seems to think that your home page is the best result for that search term, this could be due to having some of the keywords in that page (especially right at the top!) it could also be your home page has stronger link profile, even more so when specific links are from Edinburgh related domains etc. this is compared to the pages you want to rank which are lacking in links etc.

Now you could possible do some fun local citation shenanigans to help or tweak the content to really give it some clout but really it comes down to tweaks... lots and lots of tweaks! as with most things SEO to get that balance and there is no golden rule, no keyword density that will result in the magic number one spot I'm very sorry to say.

So I say go out, show Google what for and make your pages the best gosh darn garden landscaping page in Edinburgh! This can be linking to some other neato pages that help with your point, get some people to link to you saying "look how gosh darn amazing these guys are" etc. and try not to worry too much on what page is ranking

In short you need to block the Google image bot in your robots.txt

Now technically No-follow links should not affect your site however I'm not convinced that they are not used as some sort of signal plus if they supposedly are not used they shouldn't matter if you remove them (especially if they are doing you site harm). remember though if you remove follow links its a good idea to also counter the removed links by creating fresh links so you don't have a a deficit.

Short answer - No-follow like shouldn't affect your rankings. (but you can still remove them if you think they are harming you)

You can have either www. or none it really doesn't make a huge difference. When you find one you like you can redirect the other into it and tell webmaster tools which is you preferred domain.  So find your preference of domains (it's not a big deal which has more or less PA though but if one is getting links naturally its probably a good idea to stick with it).

The redirect will fix any issues so don't worry.
