In theory Nofollow links have no impact on search rankings this is what Google tells us etc. but no follow links do make a link profile look more natural (100% follow links look bad) and there has been some observations (though no proof) that they can assist you. Although they don't transfer link juice they do transfer visitors which again can help.

So when you see an opportunity don't be put off by the no follow link, if it will benefit users go for it as its the users you are trying to help.

the way it works is lets say you've got two bits of content on two different areas of a site but it will only index one (and mark other as a duplicate) Example :

www.books.com/author

&

www.books.com/genre/author

Now these may be the same  content, what we would then do is put a canonical tag  on the duplicate  page pointing to the page we wanted to be indexed ( I would recommend using one thats closer to the domain) so on www.books.com/genre/author we would put the tag -

What this does it tells Google this page is a duplicate of this one (the one in the link) Google will then ignore that page and only index the page in the canonical

**In Short**
Canonical is used for duplicate content if you only need one page to been indexed and want to avoid duplicate content issues.
if you have duplicate content its perfect for you.

When redirected don't push the whole site to one page try to move each page (obviously depends on the size of the site) to a relevant page so you won't loose as much juice, you will loose some however. It also depends if its the same relevancy as to what Google thinks of your redirect. You will loose some, you can look up some of Matt Cutts talks on 301 redirects he has a few videos about on it.

First off 301 may not be the best for that situation but a tag - rel=canonical sounds like it would be a great fit. You may find the yoast SEO plugin very helpful, if you did want to redirect though there is a great plug in - http://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/

Now you may be thinking why not a 301? well

author/admin/page/2

category/uncategorized/page/2

as you see the page is under two sections one by the person who wrote it and one under the category the author thinks that page should be. As a 301 is not necessary as it would be confusing (imagine you click on the author but you are redirected to a category!) the canonical tag will point towards the stronger post (lets assume category) and tell Google to ignore the other post as its a duplicate of the category post and give all link juice to that. The bonus of this to a 301 is the post will still maintain its position and the user (or crawler) wont get lost.

The Yoast plugin has the canonical feature I believe (more info here )

It really makes no difference as they would both be around the same, I would recommend YouTube as it is another search engine giving you even more opportunities to be found.

Keep your pants on there before you go and jump ship, did you go to the reports section and take a look? You will find that you can create monthly reports (there are a few topics on it if you want to do a quick search)

You're correct the best practice is to no-follow site wide links this was you can still be found but without any trouble. You can always request to leave the homepage link as follow so you still maintain the best link juice.  even if we ignore the penalty aspect it really just dilutes the links you have which isn't helping you either.

Short answer - Yes

slightly less short answer -  just like most people add www. and none www. to webmasters its good to do the same for secure sites while not essential its good to make sure you've got all bases covered also means you don't miss any communications from Google that may come through that site. Lets look at this another way, lets ignore the DA & PA etc. and look at it in terms of who will be there.

Will the sponsorship gain you visibility in your niche?

Will you get visits through the links that could turn into a conversion ?

A link that is no follow but has a lot of visits through it can be far more valuable than a follow link that doesn't really have any visits through it. Look at it as a large package and the link is just part of it.  Back on topic the authority is good and if its in your niche even better it just depends on how quickly you think you can get that money back via your site

Sorry my answer isn't super helpful but really I can tell you the link but as to the cost its really up to you I would suggest you look at it as a larger picture.

First off i recommend reading - https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/158587?hl=en There is a limit on Google fetches (depending on the type) so make sure you didn't go over.

Second expecting your site to rank instantly is crazy talk, you have to give it a bit of time for Google to do its job. The concept of Fetch as Google is not to index pages (that's a bonus) but to make sure the page is working correctly so Google can find it. There are loads of tips on Moz for helping your site ranking quicker but overall it will still take a bit of time.

Ask yourself "are they helpful for the user" if the answer is yes you should keep them, if no then remove them. Even if that theoretical user only comes for a visit rarely its still helpful to keep them about.

Canonical is only helpful if the content is the same if not its not the best option.

You may loose some authority if there are links pointing toward them but a 301 to a relevant resource may help avoid loosing this, you can check this in OSE etc. though.

Directories can be alright if they are niche and you think users will find your site helpful in there, so its good if your looking to list your self for the user and not the link. e.g. yell.com etc.

Meta Keywords are completely useless Google's said it has no plans to use them, Bing has been known to use them negatively and they also tell competitors what keywords you are after. If I were you I would remove them as they serve no purpose nor will they any time soon.

Couple of things, firstly NO! don't do it, seconds PR is not updates so ignore that metric (it also only goes to 10). Unless the directory is going to be used by real people looking for your site don't bother it will just end up getting you some form of penalty.

Don't Panic! it is still working. when you add a domain to the disavow file it sort of no-follows that domain (or ignores it if you will) but just like no-follow links it can still show up in your webmaster tools.

It can seem a bit daunting but essentially what you want to do is this (the simple form)

1. Link the authors Google+ account with the site (contribute to X site)
2. On each post the author writes  you want the authorship tag going to their profile  or/as well as a physical link like "follow X author on their Link Google plus account" etc. that  helps tell Google the author

Run a report and export it as a .csv  (there is an email .csv button of E.G Crawl Diagnostics). In the report there will be a column called  Duplicate Page Content (L) then in column Duplicate Page Content (AO) there should be a list of all the duplicate pages. nice and easy for your web dev team to see, I recommend find & replace to remove all the FALSE as its a bit of an eye sore and you can also sort and you should be able to send over a nice email with the original page and the duplicates.
