Neither OSE and WMT is providing the real and full link profile. I have the same issue with several accounts.

But both can be a really good indicator if used together. Personally I use a 3 combo: WMT, OSE and the Majestic tool.

With those 3 powers combined (like in Captain Planet) you will have a really good feedback.

I use WMT as a primary tool when I have access and OSE and Majestic as second tier. I use OSE as the main tool for competition analysis and majestic as a backup - filling some gaps.

You can also try Raven for some additional feedback - but a agin, no tool will provide full100% accurate information.

Unfortunately that is correct. TLD's are very important. There is no real way around it.

It makes sense some how as in US if a user will see .co.uk in serps will likely click on a noter result (depending on the subject). France is very extreme with .fr domains - users have a huge CTR behavior on fr domains vs .com, .eu etc.

I have a client with a dot com german site with really great PR / DA and still he is outranked in some cases by dot de domains.

Your best choice in this case will be to go, if possible with separate TLDs (.co.uk for UK, -com for US, .de for Germany,  fit it for Italy and so on).

If you make a good TLD strategy you can have great results.

It doesn't matter where you put the code it's all about the display and G can very well determine what is where.

As for the new algo change - it's about ads in general not only banners: adsense, banners, affiliate links etc

He can spot those with no problem as far as source/ placement/ style also based on user behavior and end of the road for the user (determine if the user is hitting the back button after a click or not and so the result can be : it's relevant for the user or not).

It's all about the ratio: content vs ads. You can place ads above the fold but if all / most of your traffic is going out via  those links then there is no reason for your content to be there or the site in the serps as there is no value for the user.

It makes sense overall - and even if in some cases we don't like it we do need to build for the users and then for conversion - whatever that conversion might be.

Your site is still in the index, ranking for several terms - so no heavy penalization in place.

You do have a lot of SEO related issues on the site that can and will harm you in the future but it doesn't look it's that heavy to go from x to 0.

Did you check if with the new redesign has all things in place ?

The team that did the redesign didn't place / implemented the Google Analytic code in the new design.

I don't see it in your source code in any of the pages I've checked.

It must look something link this in the head section of the source code.

I had the same issue with a client very recently.

In my case the issues was 100% the outgoing traffic via affiliate links as after total removal the traffic went back up. (also after a re-inclusion request)

If you do add no-follow and send the link to a no index no follow internal page and on this page you place the affiliate links google will still know the "road" that the visitor took so it will still see the behavior (from the tool bar and referral source)

The best approach in my case was to reduce the number of affiliate links, add new non affiliate resources, other links to good sources on the subject, "dress" everything in a nice user friendly UX so overall the outgoing traffic will not only be affiliate channels and it looks like in Google's eyes this is natural and ok.

Now the traffic is more then previous levels (also based on some new clean link building sessions). It could be just a spike as this was very recently but still.... the traffic before the link building campaigns was at the same level as before.

Yes, I see what you mean but the fact is that those are the specs for a one year very expensive campaign and by expensive I mean really expensive.

Dose it worth to pay $200-300 for one link if it's placed on a page with 100,200 pr even more other links ? (even if it's exactly related and with good authority) or those money can be spent elsewhere ...

Let's say that both pages are just a "resources" type of page: links and a short description of each link - no content on the page that is actually hosting the link.

I do have exact samples but I don't think that will help with the issue - as it's a general question.

I've got some strong feedback from a well known figure in the SEO word - extreme approach as far as the number of links per page and I am a little puzzled about this.

I am doing link building for several years now and I keep up to date with all movement but this is the first time I've received extreme sided feedback links this one (no, we don't care about the number of links per page at all and similar)...

So, where do you place this aspect on your checklist ? How important is this in your view when building links / evaluating links ?

I would love some opinions about one Link Building technical aspect from SEOs, link builders ...

How important is the number of outgoing links on the page you have the opportunity to place a link ? (from a scale of 1-10 / what about where dose this factor fits overall with your check list , as important to consider as far as link building)

Would you place a link on a page with 200+ outgoing external links if the page is ok (not involved in selling links, all links are related with the subject, target page, anchor text etc) or you would go with a link on a 10-15 links per page but not that 'powerful' and not that related (not spammy but more general on the subject that can contain links to some other non related resources).

Eg:

Option 1:

www.whatever-name.com/links.html

• the entire domain is about x.
• It has 250 links in that page (in the links.html)
• all links on the links.html pages are somehow related / resources with x.
• Your link can be placed with an anchor text related with x that will target a page on your site related with x.
• Domain page rank : 6 (as a general indicator),  Page PR, the links.html one, PR: 2

Option 2:

www.some-other-name.com/x-is-so-great

• the entire domain is NOT about x, just the page.
• It has 5..10 links in that page (external links more or less related with x - but not spammy)
• Your link can be placed with an anchor text related with x that will target a page on your site related with x.
• Domain page rank : 3 (as a general indicator),  Page PR, the links.html one, PR: 1

What's your best option ?

As an add-on: more subfolders will also reduce the chances of getting hit by a manual or algorithmic penalization from Google on the entire domain or on a larger scale within the domain due to bad content in one of the folders.

I would use rel canonical to make sure you tag the main url and set on the rest of the pages a rel canonical to the main page you've selected from the pool of the duplicate pages . This way those pages won't  compete with each other.

Duplicate content within your own website is not a Panda issue or a penalization issue - you are safe from this point of view but you loose a lot as you compete with yourself with several pages for the same keywords

Knowledge  / deep understanding of code (html, css, programming of any kind) is a good to have set of skills in your SEO bag but I don't think is the main  valuable skill a good SEO must poses.

In my opinion the set of skills targeting Conversion Optimization (rules, procedures, UX related, A/b testing) is the most important additional 'skill set' you need to master in order to be able to really provide good SEO advice and run a normal professional SEO campaign. CO (Conversion Optimization) covers a lot of fields but at least knowing the basis will make you a much better SEO.

First you should copy and paste the category dmoz link were your link is displayed into the google search file to see if it's indexed. Some new dmoz categories are not .. wierd for such a domain but true. We had a similar issue were the dmoz category  was not indexed  -  we didn't run OSE but it can rule one out.

All dmoz links for our projects are displayed in OSE.

It can be a good e-marketing campaign. You can get good traffic from those links, directly from people that are visiting the site that hosts this iframe but I still don't think it will help from a SEO perspective - as far a slink building.

Maybe I am off with this but can you try this using a widget ?

(Build a small widget that will contain your link and some other info that the salon owners can find it useful to have on the site).

In this way they will just load the widget or a a rss that will display the additional info and your link directly within that particular page. if you can give them some extra benefit they and a very easy way to include that widget - a copy and paste action - you can have a win/win for both sides.

Anything that will move away from the iframe procedure can help your website from the SEO perspective. In my opinion you should turn it on all sides in order to get the best of it.

If there is no solution, then yes, better an iframe then nothing as it can bring some dedicate hits but again, I don't think it will bring any SEO benefit.

Normally for this type of flow you won't get any value for that link.

That is because that iframe is in fact a page that is displayed within another page and use for this purpose alone - to link to you that is. That page doesn't have any authority because no one is linking to it - not even the site that part of - this page won't be in any navigation, sitemap or any other linked source - so it will have almost no value. Maybe a little value as part of an authority site but I doubt it will cont.

Just to underline the above - you will have a link from an obscure page, a satellite that for the user will look like is part of an important page but for Google and friends (since they see beyond the smoke screen) this page won't pass any link juice.

This is the reason why for link building one of the most important requests is : the link shouldn't be within an iframe or using a javascript.

My personal opinion is to move away from this concept as it can eat up a lot of resources with only a small to none amount of benefits.

If  you are a visitor/user on your site would you like to see a blank page with the site structure or a innerpage (header/footer) with the structure in the body area ?

If you build it for the Search Engine it will be good to strip the rest of the "normal" site elements like your footer, header and side bars if any but if you do it for the users - to help them navigate easier from this page then you should keep the site look and feel for a better user experience.

More then that since - at least Google - will take in consideration as far as ranking and signals sites that are build to improve the user experience I think your best bet is to go with a normal inner page with the structure of the site in the body area.

If you have authority your sitemap html will get indexed fast with no issues even if you have 100+ links on that page including your main navigation and footer links.

In my opinion you should definitely go with the normal theme and place the sitemap/structure in the "content area" .

The speed load of the entire is site is much more important. That, in correlation with the IP location can help you in some extent with your ranking but overall it's a small signal.

My opinion is to focus on the site speed (related with your question) and I strongly believe that since both Vancouver and Montreal are in Canada there won't be a difference as far as geo location of your host.

More then that if your site is fast, even if you host using a US host your ranking won't be affected. Since you have those options within Canada It's best, in my opinion, to go with the Montreal option as there is no difference as far as SEO benefit between the two options you've mention.

I consider a site is  passing the "I'm brand" level when google will display site links. That' susualy based on incoming links - authority overall.

So in my personal opinion to get there you need a few powerful, " patient zero " links (very very high authority sites that will link to you - in that category I also include facebook.com, linkedin, twitter and digg - that's a good place to start). You also need several additional niche related strong links in order to "qualify".

That is my personal view on the brand signal thingy. Hope it helps.

The differences between the two domain names is very small - from a user perspective.

More then that you lose the "business" keyword from the Url (even if google staff said they will cut down from the power of keywords within url I think it's still ok to keep it - within the url that is).

My personal opinion on your issue is to stay the way you are now. You lose around 1-10% of the current domain name page rank power with the 301 redirect - is not much but since the domain change is not that big I don't think it's worth the trouble.
